Guest Magdalena
AC/DC - Ahhh, my favorite band of all time. Don't tell me I'm the only person who likes them. If you don't know who they are, you should be stabbed violently, then informed. They are known for such songs as "Hell's Bells" and "Highway To Hell" and such others. They were really big around the late 70's to the early 80's. Aerosmith - This band kicks ***, well it did. Before they came back. My favorite song by them is "Dream On" or "Janie's Got A Gun". Let's not forget other great bands such as Cream, the Velvet Underground, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Pink Floyd. There are so many others, and they are just amazing. I tend to like "older" music better because, it's classic. Their music lives on after so many years, and still sounds awesome. They didn't have the "bells and whistles" as so many modern bands now do, and their music is fantastic. I'm tired of seeing all the polls about crappy new bands, try and appreciate the good stuff :)
Semjaza
I like the bands you've mentioned so far. I'm surprised you mentioned Velvet Underground. No one seems to talk about them anymore, but those who know them always seem to think really high of them. My English teacher Senior year had a big poster of theirs in the classroom heh. I have a CD of theirs lying around, but I've not played it in a very long time. My favorite "old" band... well I guess, musician would be David Bowie. He's been playing since the late 60s. He obviously still puts stuff out though. His next CD actually comes next Tuesday I think (along with the new APC LP too). I've not heard great things, but I think it's mostly that people are tired of Bowie trying new things and not sticking to his roots. It makes little sense to me considering that he's always changed like this. I must admit most of his new stuff outside of Heathen doesn't compare though. Anyone that dislikes Bowie should be shot a few times. I also love The Doors. Jim Morrison was someone I looked up to in quite a few ways, although not as much anymore. They have so many good songs in my opinion, my personal favorites being Crystal Ship and Five to One. They were listed in Blender's Top 50 Worst Bands Ever or some crazy nonsense. Stupid *** magazine. They also listed Oingo Boingo, Skinny Puppy and Toad the Wet Sprocket... well totally ignoring most boy bands, crap pop groups and terrible mall punk bands. Makes no sense to me. Then The Cure. I don't have as much of a history with The Cure as I would like to. They're not as old as the others mentioned here, since they debuted in '79, but I figured I could include them anyway. My favorite release would either be Pornography or Bloodflowers. Bloodflowers is something I think most anyone should listen to once. It's just a really solid, emotionally depressing album... probably up there with Beck's Sea Change. There's more, but I'm finished. I probably include quite a few bands from decades before that and mostly 80s only bands too... but I don't know how recent you want to get heh. Guest Magdalena
Oh the doors.... awesome, awesome band. The Cure, awesome band... I love the 60's, 70's and 80's because their rock music was so good.
Nerdsy
Most of the songs I like are older songs. In fact, my three current favorite songs were all made in the 70's, I think. One is a re-make of a 60's song (which I actually prefer over the original), and another might have been made in the 80's. Let's see... Who do I like? Well, it's hard to choose any set number, so I'll just ramble off the top of the head. I love SuperTramp. Plain and simple. I'm a huge Bob Seger fan, and if there's going to be any CD I get soon, it's probably going to be either Bob Seger or Bruce Springstein. And yes, The Boss is also a favorite of mine. Styx, of course. I would have to believe that it is impossible to listen to Mr. Roboto and not like it, simply for the fact that the band was insane enough to make something like that. ZZ Top, Foriegner, AC/DC, Van Halen, Doobie Brothers. I suppose I'm starting to name ones that might be named over and over again, so I guess I'll stop there.
Drix D'Zanth
I love Perry Como's "Papa Loves Mambo", damn funny song. I also am a stickler for the older jazz and blues. Usually the legends themselves. I love muddy waters, etta james, ella fitzgerald.. lesse.. so many , I can't remember them all, Loui Armstrong, so many .. gahhh I also love the older stuff by Motown bands, the 40 records, the temptations, etc. AND OF COURSE we have to have Marvin Gaye in the mix, with "ain't no mountain high enough". Never been topped except by his most beautiful hit (ripped directly by Barry White unfortunately) "Let's get it on". That song is so fun! Alright, I'll think of more.. need more time.. I also need to go shoot up a bit more black tar heroin for inspiration. For those of you who don't know who I am: I'm joking, nice to meet you. I think its kinda freaky though. Zombie like. And of course styx rock.
wrist cutter
I'm all about The Police. I've been listening to them for a long, long time and I still like them... something I can't say for many groups. Also fond of U2 and Tears for Fears. The Cure is pretty cool too. Queen Asuka
There's a few old bands that I like. Pink Floyd: Okay, so I don't own any of their albums, but I love all of their songs. And my Junior year of High School, Warner Robins Marching Band did a Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz show. Best thing I've ever seen in my life. I wish I could see it again. Amazing. And yeah...all that fun stuff. We listened to Pink Floyd in History of Rock today. ^_^ I hate Van Halen. With a passion. They suck SUPERBLY! Edit: Geez, no one's mentioned Led Zeppelin yet? You guys are freaking me out! Oh and yeah, I LOVE U2. I have no idea why. Their mellowness appeal to me, I suppose.

Shinmaru
There are a few older bands/musicians I like: Pink Floyd - Like QA, I don't own any of their albums, but I'm a huge fan of their music. Very cool stuff. Frank Zappa - What can I say, Frank Zappa is awesome. The music is really good and he was a great writer. Too bad his kid had to go through life with the name Moon Unit. David Bowie - With Semjaza talking about him all the time, I have to say I was more than a bit curious. His music absolutely blew me away. Amazing stuff...even better that he collaborated with Trent Reznor once, heh. I'm also a huge fan of B.B. King. Great, great guitarist. Could listen to his work all day long... future girl
*sigh* Depeche Mode  They were my first ever concert, I was 14 and I still have the concert ticket safely stored away. I've been listening to them since I was in Elementary, quite seriously. I was in love with the man's voice, so deep, just plain awesome. The Smiths, Morrisey is the most depressing man on earth, but I still love this band. My favorite album has to be The Queen is Dead, it just rules. Lately, I've been getting into Led Zeppelin. I always liked them, but it's starting to border on obsession now. I really love the song "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You." It's so beautiful. Siouxie and the Banshees. I love her voice, it's so deep and sultry, you feel sexy just listening to the music. It has this dangerous romantic and haunting allure. The Sisters of Mercy. Andrew Eldritch has such a beatifully deep voice, it's soothing. Also, because of them I was for the first time ever called a satanist, even though I am not one. It helped me see how narrow minded ppl were. The Cure of course. I LOVE THE CURE!!!!!!!!! For a long time I even considered having his love child. :p Robert Smith rules, and he's such a good front man, the way he flirts with the audience on the stage with shy little smiles and it's just an awesome experience. I love the song, "Jupiter Show." Such a lovely song. There's a lot more, but at my old age (17 :p) my memory fails me.

Not like a Buddy Guy presence, but more of a laid back groove-feeling. He's such a funny guy too, plenty of humor in his music. I love the depth of his guitar playing, he just creates such a rich feeling, every note is significant with the King.
The (Sic) Shape
The older bands I only really like are rock bands like Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Iron Maiden, Judas Preist, Slayer, Quiet Riot, and so on. In fact, "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath was the first song I ever heard and I became hooked on that.

Semjaza
We used to have this wonderful radio station here known as the Blaze. It was later renamed Rock 103.5, but basically stayed the same. They'd play all sorts of just great rock songs. You'd go from B.B. King to Pantera to Soungarden to who knows what else. It was just all sorts of great music. Of course, their main personality was Mancow. I'm sure some people here know the guy. He's based here in Chicago. He wound up moving his show to Q101 and Rock 103.5 slowly just died. Q101 is just terrible, in my opinion. At least we have the classic rock station though. The Loop. I listen to that, and that's pretty much it outside of the random college station. It's really my only chance to get to listen to most of these older bands anymore.
Mitch
Rush is nearly all I have to say. Sure, there's Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, other such stuff. They are all great too. But Rush doesn't get as much as they truly deserve as far as I'm concerned. All I really ever hear playing on the radio here of theirs is "The Spirit of Radio," which is certainly a wonderful song. But yeah. I also like Metallica's older stuff, when they had a more classical rock edge, not this new fangled crap sound that's been labeled as "hard rock." Queens of the Stone Age is a nice new band that has a sound that is fifty million times better than any of that new sounding stuff. Not that I hate St.Anger...it is a great album, but I really like their older stuff better. Especially Master of Puppets. What a solid CD.
Semjaza
Rush's 2112 is probably the greatest concept album ever created, in my opinion. That's including Dark Side of the Moon, which I'd probably put really close after it. Their releases after that really kept improving though. They're really underrated at this point. Heaven's Cloud
For all their musicality I can?t stand Rush?something about the lead singers voice drives me insane. Anyway, the majority of the music I listen to is ?classic? Rock, so I love many of the bands that have already been mentioned. The Allman Brother?s Band- In my opinion they are the greatest southern rock band of all time. Dick Betts and Duane Allman are incredible guitar players (Dicky Betts wrote ?Jessica? to be played with two fingers for a friend that was missing several appendages), Chuck Lavell is an insane pianist, and although Greg had a rough voice, it suited their music well. Eat a Peach is the pinnacle of all southern rock albums so if you like Skynryd give it a chance The Rolling Stones-They have too many good songs to mention. Keith Richards is and always will be one of the best rhythm guitar players of all time. Derrick and the Dominos-Although short lived due to the death of Duane Allman, both Clapton and Allman wrote some of their best songs during this time; both Layla and Bellbottom Blues came out of Derrick and the Dominos. There are so many other great old bands: Santana, Led Zepplin, Ziggy Stardust/Bowie, Frank Zappa, The Beatles, Cream, and my favorite band of all time The Doors. I?m sure someone else will write about a band that I like and I?ll respond with a ?Dude! I can?t believe I forgot about them!??
hansolowannabe
Long live the Queen. Zep is by far the greatest band that had been metioned until now. THE CLASH!!!! C'mon people. Also, The Sex Pistols, the Ramones, and Black Flag. Don't exclude punk from your list.

Lady Macaiodh
When I listen to "modern rock", with rare exceptions, I want to throw my radio out the window. Maybe that's why I've been listening to more country lately. My list of classic rock bands is far too long to mention or remember, but at the moment it's: Creedence Clearwater Revival Blue Oyster Cult Charlie Daniels Band Lynyrd Skynyrd Can't think of any more. And of course let's all salute the first gods of punk: The Misfists Sex Pistols Dead Kennedys The Ramones I'm brain dead at the moment, I know there's more.
Fall
One of my most favourite bands, whish was around when my dad was a kid, is Pink Floyd. No-one can go past them and say their music sucked. It rocked.. "Comfortably Numb" is an awesome song. I can't leave out AC/DC, o Richard Marx. They were pretty damn good aswell. And who can forget Guns & Roses? My god... I love so many of their songs, it'd be hard for me to find one I don't like. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", and "November Rain". Totally rock. "November Rain", dad showed me the video clip once, and the music in it nearly knocked me out. Out of all the songs I've heard from Guns & Roses, "Novemeber Rain" is the best I've heard, ever. Bon Jovi, by himself, was pretty good in his music aswell, from mum. And he still is, as I know.
Queen Asuka
I also think that Def Leppard is decent. A while back, a lot of people from Jones County were really into that and the greatest hits CD was what they all partied to and got drunk with. Ah, good times, even though I wasn't there. It still reminds me of band camp, though, with Heat and Autumn. *Sighs* GAH, I'm getting all nostalgic!
Lady Macaiodh
"Love Bites" by DL was the song of a couple I used to be in... fabulous to make love to, and it's not about what people think. "Patience" by Guns n' Roses was also as special song, for Josh and me, the sexy rock star drummer, the only guy who ever dogged me, really. I still can't listen to Guns n' Roses because of him. The song "You Shook Me" by AC/DC always sends me through the roof. Also, "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" by Pink Floyd. That basically describes my school years. PS: If all these people are IM-ing me at one time, I can't answer properly.
Vertigo
Mm...Aerosmith...I need to get my old CDs out again...I love them. Also, I love the trippyness of Pink Floyd...It seems hereditary... Guns N' Roses is great...Sympathy for the Devil is amazing, along with November Rain. Some of Bon Jovi's songs really rock me...And you cannot forget about the almighty Queen...
