I love anime music ^_^ I have about 29 soundtracks at the moment (not all from different series, though), and I'll be getting two more when the Outlaw Star ones come in.

For orchestral music, I love the Pokemon BGM. It was the very first Japanese CD I bought and I still listen to it after five years. Myuutsu no Tanjo (Birth of Mewtwo, the first Pokemon Movie etc) has some fantastic stuff on it- it really rivals the music of composers like John Williams, I think. It might not have the same size orchestra, but can have just as much depth and action in it.

Zoids Chaotic Century/Guardian Force is another of my favourites- the music's mostly synthesised but sound great anyway. It's got a lovely energetic sound to it and is orchestrated so well you wouldn't know it was necessarily keyboard-generated.

Evangelion's another great one- lots of rather obscure pieces here, but still great.

Outlaw Star is one I really can't wait to get- the action music in there's fantastic, as are the character themes.

I won't go on about all the other serii I've seen, heh ^_^;

As for main themes:

Through The Night- Outlaw Star
Voice, Kawaita Sakebi, one or two of the others that Jinzou mentioned from the original Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh series
Yu-Gi-Oh- US dub opening theme
Together with the Wind- Pokemon 1st Movie Japanese ending theme
Cruel Angel's Thesis- Evangelion
Infinity- Lost Universe opening theme
Wild Flowers, Chase, Song For... -Zoids opening/ending themes
Slayers themes (I don't know their names, but they're on a StarChild Collection CD I have)
You Get to Burning- Martian Successor Nadesico opening theme
Hemisphere- RahXephon opening theme
After, In The Dark- Macross Plus ending theme
I Want Out- Generator Gawl opening theme
Closet Freak- Hareluya II BOY closing theme

That's about it for the moment, I think. I don't like making huge long lists as posts generally, but as this thread often pops up I'll use it as reference. I'll just quote this post and edit it next time, heh.

I love all the music on FLCL. I couldn't imagine any better music for the show than that! The overall sound and rythm of the songs kicks butt. As for other music I'd have to say Cowboy Bebop (especially The Real Folk Blues and Tank!) and Rurouni Kenshin (Freckles and Heart of Sword). Both of those shows have great music and I love the jazziness of CB. It fits. Oh and Obsession from .Hack//Sign is really neat too. The techno type of rythm really is cool. And Inuyasha. I like My Will, Fukai Mori, and Dearest. They're the best. Hmmm...I guess I like a lot of music huh??

Hmm......I would have to say-
-Heart of Sword & Freckles (Kenshin)
-My Will & Fukai Mori (InuYasha)
-The song that Rem sings in Trigun... Such a touching tune... :love2: :bawl:
-The song at the end of at least two Cowboy Bebop- with the indian kid and their grandpa... it's stuck in my head...kinda... :freak:

Thats about it for now..... bye-ness! :confuse2:

I really, really love Gravitation's opening and ending songs. From the moment I first heard "Super Drive," I knew I was destined to become a fan of the series. It's extremely happy and uplifting, but doesn't contrast with the show's general mood (like Rurouni Kenshin's "Sobakasu"). Gravi's ending song, "Glaring Dream," always manages to calm me down--which is a good thing, especially since most of its episodes end on huge cliffhangers.

Anime music is so beautiful. I have lots of it. One of my favorite animes that has awesome music is Hellsing. It has so many songs that have such different "feels" to it, ya know.

The song Wind in Naruto (the ending theme) is so awesome.

Also, I love the music in .hack//SIGNS. My fav are A Stray Child and BT.

I could probably go on and on about different anime with awesome music (Trigun, Evangelion, Macross, etc). ^_____^

I really, really love "Duvet" by Boa, the opening song for Lain. And "Freckles" from Rurouni Kenshin is also really great!! My all-time favorite must be "Haruka Kanata" by Asian Kung-Fu Generation, the 2nd Opening theme for Naruto! Everytime I hear that song, it never fails to hype me up! I also really love the acoustic version of "True Light" from DNAngel. ^_^

I love the music from Martian Successor Nadesico; especially the opening and closing themes; 'You Get To Burning' and 'Watashi Rashiku'. The music is just so polished and upbeat that it's impossible NOT to like it. The Gekigengar theme, 'Let's Go Gekigengar III!' is also great, as an entertaining mecha music spoof.

I also like the Gundam Wing and Cowboy Bebop soundtracks, especially 'Kitto OK' (upbeat) and 'The Real Folk Blues' (deep).

The cowboy bebop and trigun music scores were written by Yoko Kano and are both brillient, cowboy bebop has a great jazz/blues vib and the trigun stuff, although different still brings out a great feeling.

I like a wide variety of Japanese music found in anime and video games. For whatever reason I am attracted to, and have a passion for, most anything related to Japanese culture and history.

Overall best soundtrack-- In my opinion, .hack//SIGN wins this award without that much competition. The melodies and styles of the songs just fit the series very well, in different ways. On one hand, the appearance of the characters seems very fourteenth-century and kind of what you would see a traveler wearing in the countryside. Thus you have a lot of the Celtic non-vocal tracks like Labyrinth. Then you have the flipside of the .hack world, that it is all a technologically advanced simulation of a long-since-gone civilization. So then, to match that, you have the techno tracks like Obsession. All of the songs seem to have a little bit of a mix of the two, as well, whether you really notice it or not. If you use some really high quality headphones and listen to the more Celtic songs you'll here some kind of techno-esque beats very lightly in the background, and vice-versa. I would buy the soundtracks, but I've already burned all of the songs onto CDs, so I see no point in it other than to clear my mind of all illegal activity. FLCL's soundtrack is second place on my list. It contains the only songs of the genre of rock I find to be good.

Individual songs--

Fukai Mori from Inuyasha- There's just something about this song that draws me to it. I suppose the harmonization between the two singers in the bridge is a big part of it, and it just seems well-performed overall.

Cruel Angel's Thesis from Evangelion- Before I saw the series this song really did not do that much for me. Quite frankly, the only part I enjoyed was the choir introduction. I would listen to that and then skip to the next song on my Winamp.. But the animations that go with the song in the Evangelion beginning credits really got me interested with this song. And, again, high quality headphones enhanced the experience.

And those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Last Exile may have the most beautiful soundtrack of any show I've ever seen. Its music is reminiscient of .hack//SIGN in the sense that most of LE's songs combine a rich, almost Gregorian sound with catchy techno beats. This effectively captures the essence of the show (which, despite its medieval atmosphere, features some usually advanced technology).

I think it's kinda given that Cowboy Bebop and .hack soundtracks are the best. I mean, all the songs are sooo good, and so clean and crisp. They get me into a good mood. Espically the Bebop ones. They make me want to dance.
I also love the Gundam Wing soundtrack. Those songs are good, and I espically love "Last Impression" which is the closing song for Endless Waltz. All of the Gundam Wing songs where done by Two-Mix, which is a great group.
Every Little Thing does a great job on the InuYasha soundtrack, which in itself is another great one. All of the songs on there, like the background songs, are just as good as teh more popular ones. My favorite is Dearest and Every Heart. I think it's because teh paino is a predominant force in both of them. I also like Through the Night from Outlaw Star, and yes...who could forget the opening to Evangelion. :)

Amazon.com has decent selection of imported OSTs. Numerous smaller sites also offer downloads--though these may come with the usual "delete after twenty-four hours" disclaimer, that doesn't make them legal.... so be forewarned. You'd probably be able to find some anime soundtracks on Ebay, but it's sometimes difficult to tell whether such products are bootlegs or not. In general, the higher the price, the more likely it is that an item will have been obtained and put up for sale through legal means.

If you don't have a bottomless wallet, this may not sound very encouraging--but hey, that's life. Anime costs a lot, as do anime OSTs.

Sasuke, you mentioned Rhythm Emotion (from Gundam Wing). I love that song! It's incredibly catchy.

I am not trying to promote this site, but www.animecornerstore.com is completely legit, and they have a good selection. Hmmm while on the "store subject" does anyone know of a site other than the one i listed that has ALL legit anime dvds. Alot of places I thought were legit are carrying Naruto, which i know is a bootleg because it isnt licenced yet.

Hope that helps Inyuasha7575 :P
