Ninjaman
I just rented and watched this movie today. I must say it was a pretty good movie in my opinion. The animation wasn't as good as Spirited Away, but good none the less. And was it me, or did Sheeta sound like an English girl? I could've sworn I heard an English accent now and then when she talked. Anyway, anyone else have comments on the movie?
Semjaza
I'd figure they gave her that accent in an attempt to make her sound foreign, because she obviously wasn't from the same area as the rest of the characters. Anna Paquin (Rogue in X-Men) did her voice, so I don't know why they made her make some accent instead of just letting her speak. The movie is also pretty damn old at this point, especially compared to Spirited Away. I think it held up very well. I've not watched it in a few months, but it's a favorite of mine. erinzyger
Heh, I just rented the movie too. I just finished it...half an hour ago? Prolly less. But anyways, it was a really good movie! But then again, aren't all of Miyazaki's works wonderful? Believe it or not, I think I liked this one better than Spirited Away. Sounds crazy but yeah. Sheeta's "accent" sounded like it was there one second, and then gone the next. Or maybe my hearing's screwed up. It reminds me of Botan in YYH. On and off accents. The animation was not as good as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke ((of course it's not, it's older)) but I liked it anyways. Oh, does anybody know the voice actor who does Pazo's voice? It sounds so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. I would go up and look it up, but I want to watch it in Japanese now. C-ya on the other side! *flys off on one of her winged monkey soldiers*
VP-Master
I saw this movie last week after finding out my local library has almost all the Miyazaki movies on DVD. I was shocked to find out that I could see his movies for free and they have a much better Miyazaki collection than my local Blockbuster (which only had Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service). Overall, I'd have to agree to it was a great movie. The animation wasn't Spirited Away but nonetheless, it was nice. I liked the story a lot but for some reason, I was feeling like the movie was getting to be too long which wasn't something I felt while watching Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service. But I still really enjoyed the movie as a whole. I'm yet to find a Miyazaki movie I didn't like. Looking forward to seeing My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke now. Plant_Angel
Laputa (when it used to be called that, puta in Spanish is an offensive word 0.o) was the first anime I ever saw. Have you all been watching the new dub with, I heard, Mark Hamill in it? I saw the original dub taped from tv and then the Japanese with subtitles version, has it been Hollywooded up like Mononoke? I really didnt like that, why did the cast Minnie Driver as Lady Eboshi?! And Billy Bob Thornton as the monk guy?!?! Just wrong!! Anyway, I digress, I have a set of Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli, films. Some are quite bizarre, some are brilliant, some are actually rather dull. I reccomend to you Grave of the Fireflies, Porco Rosso and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Totoro too! They are the best of the buch.

inactive
Oh my gosh I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I don't know why, I just completely fell in love with this movie the first time I saw it. Of course, I own it. The animation isn't as good as Spirited Away because, well, it's older. They now use computers for a lot of what they do at Studio Ghibli. I'm still extremely impressed with the quality of the film, and the attention to detail that Hayao Miyazaki incorperates into his films. This movie is magical. :animesmil As for Sheeta's voice, if you listen to the voice of the actress who played her, you'll notice that her voice does have a bit of an interesting accent that is evident every once in a while. I think this is appropriate for the situation though, since Sheeta is supposed to be from, like, another country. Yup, this is my fave Miyazaki movie! JTurner
I really love this movie, and I've always found the Disney dub very enjoyable. Maybe the leads are not the strongest voices in the dub (although they certainly don't do BAD jobs by any means), but the supporting characters --Dola and Muska especially-- are all very well cast and give entertainng performances. I also enjoyed the new score by Joe Hisaishi--Miyazaki himself personally applauded the new work, and for good reason. I understand that some folks have issues with the new dub, but personally, I'd rather hear this movie in English; the Japanese version is great, no doubt, but the English version shouldn't be discredited either. OK, so it does go overboard in adding in extra lines at times, but at least they're not so ridiculously out of context with the characters or the story to spoil it for me. -Jon T.
