We have different lunch times so we can't talk about anime until after school. I'm stuck with the ones who don't watch anime, so whenever I start saying something (I almost always talk about anime), they barely understand a word I'm saying. They were fans of DBZ and other mainstream anime, but didn't know anything about Rurouni Kenshin, Bubblegum Crisis, Cowboy Bebop, and other animes I liked. My friends know about anime and know about all the different ones, but don't care about them in the least. I talk about anime and manga all the time at my school, and they just seem to tune me out. One of my friends actually tends to just look at me and go "Shut up" frequently nowadays. *sigh* They all hold video games about anything else, and believe I "wasted a fortune" on the Evangelion box set. It seems impossible to find anyone at our school that DOES like anime, as well. The only people at our little maximum security prison of education that are otaku are already my friends. I'm considered the outcast/know-it-all of the group. Despite one guy has a sailor's mouth, one hasn't eaten anything in 2 days, one has been known to have a "girlfriend of the week" for two years now, and the others are just.. Strange. *sigh* Between the the pricy DVDs, the lack of musical discs based on anime in America, and the bad rap of anime, sometimes it is hard acting in the name of Japan. LOL My friends are like what are you doing?! Nah, I'm not that stupid, but I've done it once. I brought a manga to school one time and someone stole it and passed it around the homeroom. Everyone was like who's is this? I just got up and took it back. I think everyone would like it if they gave it a chance. My interests don't seem to bother people that much, although I did feel a little weird reading Naruto in the school library. :blush: I haven't met another anime fan, even though there's an anime club here (maybe I should actually go at least once to a meeting, but Friday is my time! :whoops: ). My friends knew all about their favorite animes and I just followed along, and I somtimes threw in something they had told me. Now, I'm the anime freak (except for the fact that one of my friends has an Inuyasha shirt) who talks about anime almost non-stop, except when we talk about movies on newgrounds. I know one of my friends that enjoys DBZ and had the DVD's of the end while CN was still trying to get up to the "Otherworld Tourney." As for the rest of them, I am not sure how many watch anime. But some people that are friendly people that I normally will talk to, but they're not quite my friends, and my some of myfriends have no idea what anime is. Rather, I have the problem where people think anime is : A) Cartoons, and [i]everyone[/i] knows cartoons are just for children. B) Japanese cartoons border on pornography, with gore and nudity on every page. C) Both. A had a rare example of a "C" when I bought my last issue of my favorite magazine, Newtype-USA (for the uninformed, the anime-watchers bible.) The following happened at the checkout line. - Me (walking up to checkout counter ): I'll buy this. - Cashier : Certainly. One moment. *Cashier scans magazine, then proceeds to stare up and down the cover for about two minutes.* - Me : ...Um, there a problem? - Cashier : I'm just making sure you can buy this. - Me: Why wouldn't I be able to? - Cashier : Well, these Japansese cartoons are, you know, a little more adult-oriented. - Me : Well, if it's too [U]adult[/U] for fifteen year olds, why isn't there a "Adults Only" tag on it, like Playboy? - Cashier: Well, the manager told us these Japanese cartoon comics don't always respect that rule. - Me (now slightly annoyed ) : Well, if that's true, then why did you're store put them next to Superman, Batman, and other clearly kid's comics, since, you know, comics are only for kids? Mixing some adult-child stereotypes here, aren't we? - Cashier ( looking confused ) : I don't know sir. Here's your comic book. Have a nice day. *note* Newtype-USA is around 190 pages. Comic book?
