Ares
anyone know any free ways to find a pen pal other than the internet? And if you do suggest an internet site, make sure it's linked toa school(you know, make sure it's trustworthy or something) And if you know how I can find pen pal lists besides on the internet, please tell me. THANKS:D
Sara
You could talk to your English teacher. Schools sometimes have "brother schools" in another area, and there may be a pen pal option available. Even if that's not the case, one of your teachers may have more information on the subject for you. On a slightly different note, how many people here have pen pals they write regularly?
Semjaza
In High School, we had to have a pen pal. In Latin class, of all places. We wrote back and forth with this classroom in Germany in Latin. Translate it to English, blah blah blah. Wasn't a long thing though.

eleanor
I used to have three pen pals: one from Pennsylvania, one from California, and one from Singapore. One month, I blew them off and I never wrote to them again.
AuroraDragon
Yeah, you should ask your english teacher, they probably will know. Actually I have one pen pal in Canada that I've been writing to for about four years. It was a school project thingy, we just liked to talk to each other through ;etters so much, we kept it up. future girl
You could write to a prison :p j/k You're best bet is the English teacher, I guess. I met mine on-line, chance encounters. . . I have 3. I'm a lot closer to ppl I've never seen face to face for some odd reason. These ppl just know about everything that has to do with me, for some odd reason they're easier to trust. . . Xyandar
I have one from Tuktoyaktuk:P. In grade 8 we had to write a letter to schools around the world and I picked Tuktoyakuk. This girl mailed me back and we have been sending letters since then. Its been 2 years:) quite interesting really.
Baron Samedi
Try www.epals.com it is a candian based school site, all safe and above board, with mainly schools on it. I don't come from Canada, but a friend introduced me to it. Hope it helps.
Ratix
On the notice board at our school there was this paper, and you could sign up if you wanted a penpal from Japan. So yeah, of course i signed up. I mean, Japan.... *happy sigh*
Carr
I have tried so many times to have a pen pal. We had to have one in grade school, heh so It's not like that went anywhere. I one in 6th and had another in 8th grade, and they all stopped writing to me. My latest was a guy I met in Minneapolis(sp*cringe*) on a college visit, but just resently he stopped writing too. That makes me real sad, because he was really cool. I can't figure out why people stop writing to me, I am probaby a horrible letter writer of sommat. :therock:
Sara
Perhaps it's because of your spelling? Only kidding, CarrieMunkie. It's funny, because I write a lot of letters. (Most of them recently have been to the same person, but yes.) Some things require replies, but many don't. If you send a card in the mail, for example, people usually don't feel obligated to reply. If you send a really long letter, they feel like they need to reply, but it's too much of a chore--there's so much to go through, and are they supposed to write one just as long? Is shorter okay? What about-- It becomes a chore, and no one likes extra chores. / If someone just recently stopped writing you, you could probably send them a card or short letter along the lines of, "hey, haven't heard from you in a while. Drop me a line sometime." That usually at least prompts acknowledgement of your existance, if only an apology for the lack of other replies.
Nats
I did have a penpal in America but she never replied after my second letter :bawl: My form teacher was from America so she told everyone to write a letter to someone and she sent it to a friend of hers that teches in America. I do have another penpal which I've kept for *counts* nearly 5 years. (But I met her first then we became penpals when I had to go home). I suggest that if you're going on holiday then make a new friend then when 1 of you is going home swap addresses.

Fyxe
My school had a pen pal program in 5th grade, it was fun. We would send letters to this one class in a town about an hour and a half away from us. This one girl I was writing to seemed nice and like we had alot in common. But one day we had a picnic with that class and she was a total b!tch. I swear.... geez, she said hi, then ignored me the rest of the time. I have a pen pal in Korea now, my friend set me up with that pen pal. My new pen pal is a whole lot better. ^_^
Kyo
I had a pen pal once. We exchanged letters once and she never contacted me again. But I have a friend on the internet that I email back and forth with, I know her as Ashes of Death and she knows me as Kyo. I try to keep up with email penpals, but its hard sometimes. Guest Mortuus
I have a pen pal in Russia and will have been writing for almost a year. While it seems to be an extra chore, in the end the good outbalances the bad (that is if the person is someone you know and could trust). Plus I've met my pen pal in person, and we became friends(exchange program). This is probably one of the best ways of becoming pen pals because you get to know them and they get to know you. Ares
I'm trying to get a penpal from a Japanese school at the moment. I hope it works.
Kanariya
Talk to a teacher you know very well, and that might give them an idea for a little fun school project. I had a pen pal in the 5th grade from Salt Lake City since my teacher was born there. She was nice, and she loved dancing like me, we had a lot in common and very nice friends. Once I graduated 5th grade, I had lost a paper to her address and I felt so sad :bawl: And I had met a person from Canada who was nice and looked ten that was thirteen. I wrote her address on a piece of paper and my hand. But I have to take showers and I am clumsy. Man sometimes I am such a clumsy person.
