OMG, that's my favourite band! How'd you know?

I picked pop. I would have picked the pop/hardcore hybrid (something I like to call popcore) but no, you don't have it. I'm actually serious you should totally do the underOATH (a great band) thing. You should have a screaming lead vocalist, poppy keyboard, lite poppy guitar parts (but don't shy away from those full on metal riffs every once in a while), and a drummer that can play his pop beats as well as he can his his double-bass pedal. I think you should do that and if you don't, it's your loss, and umm... you suck.

Who says your band should only play one type of music? If your band can't decide between those 4 or 5 types of music, then you should play all of them. Blend them all together, maybe. If your band's vocalist(s) can pull off all of those, then I don't see why not. You shouldn't even have to decide, if you like all of them. Given, you might alienate a good portion of your potential fans if your songs sound completely different. If you're good, there should still be people out there who like you.

Try writing a few songs that you think will sound good. However those songs come out will decide what kind of band you become.

And just to keep me or someone else from closing this thread, how about you tell us all a little bit more about your band and we discuss that?
if you become I pop band I will hunt you down.
Haha I put the POP in there as a joke. I knew people would choose it haha.

*Whispers*Forgot the "H" :P But yea Hybrid is one of my favorite. Linkin Park is really unique and hope they continue doing what they do best:) And if you can make it to Canada(unless u live here) then we can see how you do as a singer:)

Also i will talk about my band. 2 Years ago i got a set of Drums for Christmas. Ever since i have nbeen upgrading on the drums and getting better. My friend is a DJ and is saving up to get hiomself a set of turntables. We thought of the name Rebirth from all of the fantasy things we play and read. We thought of the rebirth of a creature would be cool and chose "Rebirth"

We are now searching for 2 guitar players and a bass player. We also need a singer;).

If we become famous I am going to say that Linkin Park influenced us because they have always been my #1 favorite. they are so unique and no other band is like them. SR71 is close but not totally.

If you wanna know more then just tell me:)

Well, I certainly didn't choose it as a joke and I explained my reason behind my choice. I guess you can just ignore me, everybody else does.

I know, rap rock is just so uncommon these days.

Well, let's examine this....

Hip-hop- No. Mainly because I don't like hip-hop and if your music doesn't appeal to me, it is inherently evil! :p

Hybrid- It's okay that Linkin Park is an influence for you, but don't become a clone.

Hard Rock- Pretty much the same as above.

Goth Rock- Seeing as the other choices you put here, I take it you don't know what "goth rock" is. Save yourself alot trouble and stray far from this...

Pop- Well, it looks like this was a joke so moving on...

The answer to your question is just have alot of jamming sessions with your friends and go with whatever makes you feel good. Don't rely too much on your influences, just do what you like. Also, don't limit yourself to one genre, if you get big, you will be labeled.Don't worry about it now.

Yeah I know there isnt much Rap/rock bands out there but also there arent many rock bands with DJ's and 2 singers, that can make it as far as they have.:P just making a point
Well, seeing as those aren't that uncommon to rap or rock I still don't see your point. But, I really don't care if you like LP, more power to, why should you care what I think. I was just stating that I don't think they are that unique.

I'm guessing what you quoted and replied to was sarcasm.

All of the choices suck. Your asking us what you want your band to be? I smell a recipe for failure cooking.

I think that you should sit down and attempt writing music before you try and conform to a set genre. What if the music you write aounds better in a country format than in an industrial one. You may be a good country band, but because you are so desperatly clinging to genres, you sound like a pathetic rap/rock hybrid...

...anyway, it was just a thought...

You must be oblivious to some of the sarcasm in here.

Honestly, I have to agree with Magelena to an extent. You're setting yourself up for failure if you're more concered with what you think people would want rather than what you want to do. A sell out before you even make a song, so to speak lol.

Of course, doesn't mean you'll even listen to anyone in here... so you could go both ways with it. I don't know that you should just be like "We're doing exactly this!" before you even have any songs or compositions made.

I'm not voting to say opur band will be a certain way from what ppl say. I just want to hear what you have to say! I just want a thread that will have opinions in. Thats ALL lol. The band will think of genres. and we will make songs of different genres. We aren't sticking on one.
