Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (New Trailer Inside)

We had an old thread on this, but I never realized how old it was. It hadn't been touched since June, so I figure it is time for a new one.

This week is the Tokyo Game Show. Lots of big announcements from Japan usually occur. Capcom has shown an insane amount of new titles for example.

Konami also released a new trailer for MGS:TT (MGS3 might get one as well, but it might be the same one from ECTS).

Their site is incredibly slow, so I am hosting the video myself. It's about 15 MBs and 5 minutes long. They used an ASX file, and so things are rather washed out. However, the framerate and sound are just fine.

Anyway, the game looks pretty awesome in motion. Watch the whole thing through because there are scenes that really should be seen fully. Game is looking pretty good in most aspects. The modeling is really improved since the last movie and even since the last batch of shots that came out less than a month ago. Animation looks good as well.

The game was delayed to early 2004 (I think it was set for November originally), and so this is not the final build. I guess quite a few things still have to be addressed and added in.

Shadows and lighting being one of them. Dyack has said that they're using a unified lighting pipeline system, which is what Doom 3 is using. I'm under the impression that it isn't fully implemented yet, based on these shots. Once that is in, I imagine it will look far nicer.

Thankfully they have plenty of time to address it all, so no concerns from me.

So here's the link. PLEASE do not share this with other boards, as I have to pay for this bandwidth.
MGS3 might get one as well, but it might be the same one from ECTS
Confirmed. It should be uploaded to the MGS3 Konami website later tonight since it is being unveiled on the 27th in Tokyo (~3 PM over there).

As for the new MGS: TTS movie...*drools a little* From the E3 build, which was absolutely horrid (Liquid looked like a Mr. Potato Head) to the TGS version is a complete 180 turn for the better.

The fight scenes are pure bliss, the graphics have been substantially increased, and subtle touches (snowflakes on the binoculars; Meryl/Snake skirmish) are spectacular.

This is the title that will warrant me buying a GC (there are other titles I want, but this is the title, even though I have the PS1 version).

All in all, I can stand to wait to wait for the game longer as long as the end result supersedes what it is now. I have too many titles to buy as is, so it coming out later will allow for the funds to replenish.

I can only say one word at this point: Wow.

I preferred the original MGS to MGS2. So, having read a lot about this "remake", I'm very excited.

Quite a lot has changed, too. All-new in-game movies, extra bits and pieces within the game itself and of course, the entire MGS2 moves list, fully implemented into the MGS universe. Very cool stuff.

It's also interesting to note how far some developers are pushing the GameCube. In my opinion, this game is looking as good as MGS3...if not better. It's great to see developers starting to really push GameCube titles further than anyone has seen so far.

In any case, this is just another game that I have to add to my "must purchase" list. Apart from Animal Crossing and F-Zero GX (both of which come out here next month), there are the numerous other first and third party exclusives to pick up. Ugh, my poor wallet. V_V

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this game. Silicon Knights continues to prove itself as a great game developer...I'm very impressed by what I've seen of this game so far.

The game is looking utterly fantastic so far. It looks even more amazing than MGS2 (which was a great looking game in its own right). The voice acting, as always from the MGS crew, is great and the cutscenes flowed very well together. I'll reserve further judgement until I actually know how the gameplay turns out, but I must say that it's looking mighty fine right now.

This is yet another game that I am looking forward to playing. Now if only I had the money to buy all these great games. Capatalism can be a real downer sometimes lol.

Well, with the original Metal Gear Solid being my favorite video game ever, I'm actually anticipating this installment with more excitement than Snake Eater. When I read today the game's release date, from Gamespot, being 03/04/2004, I gained a childish anger. I want to get my hands on The Twin Snakes as soon as possible, but I know the delayed release date is for the better.

While everything about the game looks awesome, I do have one major concern: the controls. The shoulder buttons from the original MGS and MGS2 were crucial in accurately controlling the functions of the character. The Xbox version of Substance shows what I'm worried about, as the switch to first-person view becomes an annoyance when used with the same thumbstick that controls movement.

I hope Silicon Knights has found a way to make the controls comfortable and second nature for the problematic GC controller.

*Drools after watching trailer* Hold on one second *Wipes drool from mouth*

My God. It looks better then I expected. Im more excited about this then Snake Eater, since MGS is my most favorite PS1 game. The graphics are so smooth and with MGS2's game system its gonna be better then ever. The fight scenes are beyond cool and the Cyborg Ninja looks better then ever. I cant wait any longer!

Imitates Cartman's Voice Sweet, God damn Sweet. I was a massive fan of the first Metal Gear Solid game and felt a little cheesed off at how short the sequal was, I haven't played Substance yet and I don't think I could honostly be bothered playing it when I can get Twin Snakes for my Gamecube as soon as I finish the Wind Waker.

This game along witha few others will hopefully pull the Gamecube from the rut it's reached in the European market with even the XBox beating Nintendo in terms of sales, I really can't wait to play this game.

I have had very minimal experience with the GC controller (I only have a PS2, but I will have a GC in a few weeks), but from what I see, it "fits" very nicely into the easily navigable control system a lá the PS2. The only thing I may have a problem with is the R and Z buttons. I need to actually test it out but it seems they are very close. I can imagine trying to go into FPS mode and ending up un-equipping my weapon!

If anything, I think MGS:TTS will work a lot better on GameCube's controller than PlayStation's. I certainly didn't notice MGS taking any real advantage of the PlayStation controller...and after extended playing time with that game, it did become somewhat cumbersome.

So I don't know. I think Silicon Knights is one company who can really do justice to the game, particularly because they do put so much effort into controls and fine details.

I think Silicon Knights will do very well with this. They'll be able to knock down the MGS ambience with ease...just look at the incredible job they did with Eternal Darkness. That game was just bursting with quality when it came to sounds and visuals. Plus, despite what others thought, I thought they nailed the controls for Silicon Knights. They were a million times better than anything that had ever been done in Resident Evil.
