The 2.4GHz device enables up to five players to play each other wirelessly. The wireless adapter, utilizing Motorola's chipset, will be launched in Japan first half of 2004 along with the first games to support the device, Pokemon Leaf Green and Pokemon Fire Red. "Motorola's wireless chipset realizes high-speed and low-power consumption," said Satoru Okada, general manager, research and engineering department of Nintendo Co., Ltd. "This is one of the most important solutions for portable gaming. Furthermore, Motorola's wireless experience, such as, their antenna technology enabled us to develop a new wireless game system. Motorola also provided extensive contribution not only in IC development, but considerable system engineering support. This accomplished a high quality wireless gaming system. Game Boy Advance users will experience a new style of gaming and comfort." Scott Anderson, president and chief executive of Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector commented, "Collaboration with Nintendo, a leader in the consumer entertainment market, allows us to further demonstrate our embedded wireless leadership. We have provided Nintendo a full wireless system solution focused on the end-user. I am confident this will significantly improve the game-playing experience and as a result, attract many veteran and novice game enthusiasts to Nintendo's offerings." It's expected that Motorola's chipset will be used in the next generation Game Boy system.
Personally, I think this is awesome. Many times I've tried playing GBA with other people in situations where you just can't sit right next to eachother. I wonder how far the reach is, though. Shinmaru
Hopefully, the reach won't be too short. Most likely, Nintendo will take their time and perfect the technology and not just rush it out. Given their track record, it should be a very, very good peripheral once it's released. Even though I don't have multiple GBAs, I have played multiplayer games with them and it's not fun setting it up. Hopefully, this will simplify the process tremendously. otakukev
Cool. It'd definately be a LOT less of a hassle than having cords, and most likely a LOT easier to set up. Using the cords was always a pain, because you have to be something like three feet away from each other. Not very spacious, if you ask me. One thing I'm curious to know, though; will it be usable for past games? Or will it have to be integrated into the new games that are released after it? Most likely it will have a fairly decent reach, since Motorola kicked in. And there are MORE Pokemon games in Japan? O_o;;
Desbreko
Well, this looks, and probably will be, very cool, but I most likely won't be getting one. Why? Because me and my friends already have Link Cables, and in all the times we've played, distance has never really been an issue. That, and all of us would have to get one in order to use it. Personally, I'd rather put the money towards another game, and they probably would too. I'll wait for the next generation Game Boy system for wireless play beyond my WaveBird GCN controller.
Epitome
Whoa!!! Man Nintendo is coming out with alot of new stuff nowadays. But this does look really awesome, not you can play and not have to have your sibling or friend tugging on the cord while your trying to play so thats good... but the real question is, what will Nintendo come up with next *places hands on chin and poses as if hes thinking*?
