Well... it really depends on the series itself to say which is better. Trigun anime is absolute **** in my eyes, but the manga is awesome. Big O is an impressive anime series, but the manga is pathetic. Of course, there are some series which are great in both anime and manga, such as Evangelion, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, etc. All in all though, I prefer the manga because you can carry it around anywhere, and pop against a seat and read it if you're bored.

I usually prefer manga, mostly because I don't have access to good anime. But I also find that anime series go on with pointless episodes, whereas manga is basically the core story, without the zillions of side trips. Granted, the side trips can be fun, but I find manga more meaningful. And, you can take it anywhere!

it depends on the series for me. usually I prefer something in the action genre (NGE, Kenshin) to be in its anime form so I can watch the fight scenes and whatnot (especially in mecha series). if it's a drama or romance thing (W-Juliet, Marmalade Boy), I usually prefer it in manga format, since the story usually fleshes out more. there are some exceptions though. the Kare Kano anime is waaay better than the manga imo, while I like the Inu-Yasha manga a lot more than the anime series.

it does work in manga's favor that most volumes are about fifteen dollars cheaper than DVD's, though...

Personally I prefer manga.

I don't know why, but I just find it more enjoyable to read the story, instead of just watch it.

Manga leaves more to the imagination. With manga you get to create the aspects of the story in your mind.
Aspects such as the characters' voices, sound effects, movements etc.

Anime creates these elements for you, and all you have to do is watch how other people interpreted them.
For me, thats not quite as fun.:D

Hmmm... normally it depends. Some anime suck, but the manga is awsome and sometimes it's the other way around. I prefer both really. But I think I like to read the romance/drama/etc. better than watching it. And I like watching the violence/action/comedy more than reading it. Normally it is nice to both read and watch a series. Alot of times if you watch anime you miss alot of things that were in the manga and sometimes they add different things than were in the manga. So you don't always win by siding with one thing. The only problem I have with all manga is... THE PRICE! It's killing me. #_#
But a problem I have with all anime is that it is not portable and at the same time you can watch it. Unless you carry a T.V. and DVD player around with you.
So I prefer both. There.... I answered your question. ^_^

I don't know, I used to be anti-manga, but now I see that it is usually much better than the anime.

Of course, with manga, you don't get the music, the vivid color, the voices, the sound effects, etc. But the storyline and artwork is usually watered down and leaves much to be desired.

Two prime examples of this is Sailor Moon and Chobits. The Chobits manga is so deep and beautiful, whereas the anime seems like it's just aimed more for a younger audience, when I don't think that's the intentions of the creators. Same with Sailor Moon. I dunno. *Shrugs*

Music has got to be one of the most important things I look for in anime, and if a show has good music, I'm hooked. ^_~ I dreaded the Evangelion manga because I was used to the animated action and cool-sounded music [sometimes].

But Chobits is a counter-example. I've seen both the anime and the manga, and I'd have to say I enjoy them both equally. The manga is just...cool, but the show has the animation and funny humor scenes, so I guess I liked them both. *sweatdrops*

Overall, though, I prefer the animation. I just think it looks better with action stories [which is my favorite genre] and you add in music, color, etc.

i love being able to whip out a manga an start reading in the middle of geometry, while with anime i can't watch as much as i can cause, i don't carry a tv an dvd player with me, an i prefer reading it. i get so lost watching stuff(yeah, i know it's pathetic^^;)
and it's cheaper, so i get two manga for the price of 2 an sometimes 3 anime!

Hmmm... well, it really does depend, because sometimes the manga is soooo different than the anime. Those of you who read/watched Vampire Princess Miyu or Trigun know what I'm talking about. Sometimes one will have a more interesting storyline than the other, and sometimes more thought gets put into the manga.

Lack of music is no problem, I can just get the soundtrack and play it while reading, lol.

Like Meteroa said, it all depends. I love the Cowboy Bebop show, but its manga is complete crap most of the time. But the most other manga carry the story and characters much further because it is much less expensive and is also the predecessor of it own anime. So, it depends.

For me it kinda depends on the situation. If I'm in school, it's manga all the way. I can't really come to class with a TV and VCR, but I can always take my manga out. Other times, I like to listen to the music and the voices, and watch the animation instead. My mood also plays a little part in it, I guess.
