Names

Guess?

I was looking at all the people who have signed up on OtakuBoards in the members section, and alot have only a few posts then they just stop posting. My suggestion is to delete all the people who haven't posted in a few months because someone might come to this site and sign up but has to choose several different names before one works. They might try two names then decided to leave because it takes to long to find a good name. I personally had to try around 4 names...

I agree, I think Otakuboards should have a thing were if a certain member hasnt posted in over a year (or some other time period) that there acounts be deleted. That way there isnt a over crowding of members who arent really a member. See what Im saying?

I personally only had to try once for my first name, probably because it was from Golden Sun 2, The Lost Age but hey, then I changed it to this one, and I made even change it again to Marche but, you never know, so I didnt have any problems with it. But is sounds like a good idea.

... Yeah, good idea. Nothing like seeing a user named dayday walk around, carrying that whole reputation without being the same person! *sigh*

I guess whoever wants to sign up should wipe their tears and think of something a BIT more origional than ssjgoku...

There have been threads like this in the past, and from what I've heard, James will go through and delete inactive members every once and awhile.

It may not be fair to some though, considering they may have signed up with the name they wanted, but have to be away for an extended period of time. Maybe they wanted to become an active user and great member, but just didn't have the time in the beginning. If they're planning on coming back, and return to no account, they may become upset.

I'm an example myself. I got lucky and was somehow looked over when accounts were deleted. I actually joined back in 2001, but I only recently became active again. I'm glad my named was preserved, and I'm sure many others would be too.^^

On the other hand, new members may want to sign up with an already taken name, as stated before. When a name is already taken, and the user is inactive, it can become a tough predicament. This person may one day come back, but this new member may really want this name.

I would just suggest to go ahead and create an original, "applies only to you" name. Hopefully, you'll become happy with it.

I agree. I mean, look how many people have names strictly from DB/Z/GT and YuGiOh and Digimon. What happened to all the other good names, like characters from X/1999 or DPF?

Oh, and Wrist Cutter... I am suprised you're not banned yet. I'm not trying to sound mean or anything, but come on...

No, Wrist Cutter has a reputation to keep up with on OB. He's the sarcastic Ob-er, and no one wants to see him go.
No I think people should put a bit more thought into their names if they are already taken. I mean, there can only be one true SS:(
Seriously, I think the only problem would arise when we have so many people that even names that are very unique, start becoming taken. And thats only going to happen when we get, at least, 10 000+ members. So I don't think anyone should kick up too much of a fuss.
Sure I would have been mighty pissed if Jesus Chicken was taken though. But I could have come up with something that was just as much a representation of me anyway. Get over it.

Okay, i mean i agree partly just so that the anime nerds can have their anime names,
But I mean... Its like: when Goku does not work, they'll only try ssjgoku or goldgoku or black_goku or some shittey names like those so... yeah...
Be more original (and boo is more original than you think lol)

*goes to count how many supersaiyan's there are*
Ok that are 17 orso with Super-DBZ stuff names. im not bored >.>

I usually go through this on a case-by-case basis. There have been instances where people have approached me with a name change request--only for me to discover that someone else registered under the name back in 2001 but never replied to the email confirmation notice. Of course, logic tells me that there's no point in reserving a name that'll probably never be used, so I delete the inactive account.

So, generally speaking, I'm willing to accommodate people. I'm not going to deny someone a name because of an account that's been inactive for two years.

But, I don't think James or myself are going to sift through inactive users under an official schedule or anything. It's a very time consuming and unnecessary process. Perhaps if I have time I'll think about deleting inactive accounts that are under popular names. Albeit, they'll have to be members who have posted very little and not been active for at least eighteen months.

As I said though, when someone wants a name that?s already in use, I?m always willing to investigate the situation and see what I can do. Because of that, this isn?t such a big problem.

You can't ban wrist cutter he's a national treasure ^_~.

Anyway, I think the fact that so many names have been used is testement to how popular OB is. Like the others have said it also get's new members to be more imaginative with their names. If someone was named Doukeshi03 however that would be strange, since that's me all over the web (I'm stuck in a rut like that).

If you delete the people that haven't been on for a while, you'd be getting rid of some good members. Why?

I go on holiday for like 6 weeks, and no interet for 6 weeks, and other members go away. You could delete their account. I say jsut delete people that haven't posted a single post for...about...5 weeks....maybe...

Vicky and Craig8429: Don't worry about the accounts being deleted if you go away for six weeks. I expect that Charlie and James know that things prevent members coming online.

I believe they're speaking more in the long term; if a person hasn't posted in 2 years, and then only had three posts, it would imply that they aren't coming back to Otakuboards. If another member wanted that username, it makes it silly to deny it just because it's taken by a person two years ago.

I can see your point, Craig, but I don't think that we're talking about months, really. Six months is actually a pretty short time. Years would probably be a better measurement. If came online, posted once, and then didn't post for a couple of years, chances are I'd forget this palce existed.

*shrug* Really, I think the thing is practicality. I don't think there could or should be a hard and fast rule about it -- just take each as it comes. When something happens which says we should delete some names, then James and Charlie probably would.

I made this thread a few months ago. But if you want to change your name to a name that has been taken and never posted in, just PM James or Charles as they said.

Oh, and the reason why wristcutter is still here?

I take this as a quote from someone, you hear?

'Because he is so damn shexy'.

See? ~_^

He is the Bastion of Otaku.

Here's a solution to this problem.

If the person that has been on here has not come back to the boards in a year and had poor quality on posts, he/she must have not wanted to come back to the Otaku Boards, so maybe the person should be banned. If they have email, email the person and ask.

If the person has not come back in like four or five months and does have good quality and might have a nice amount of posts, then if they have email, email the person. If they do not, I have no idea what to do then.
If a person on the boards has great quality and things, give them a chance. No matter if one's a newbie or not.

I'm just giving advice, so don't hate me.
Note: Why does everyone use Dragon Ball Z/GT names as their name?? It's the same! But I have been noticing InuYasha and Vash being used now... LOOK AT MINE!!

Just wanted to say this, i know it can be frusterating to not get the name you want sometimes but theres also a chance that some members just don't have that much time to post. Like myself. This site is just a great place for me to hang out when i get the time. I try to post as much as i can but with all my plays and my parents and siblings i just can't get on much.

My suggestion is to, say you wanted InuYasha but that was taken. Just do a different twist on the name sumthing like InuYasha422 or The_real_Inuyasha or anything that has to do with it.

Well, thats my advice, as said before in the post by Inuluver1, don't hate me for going against your suggestion. Im just giving my own suggestion after all.
