Zanarkand Abes
My favorite is called ELI. It is about this guy who dies in a car crash and is sent to a parallel world just like his, but the only difference is that instead of Christ coming 2000 years ago, He came the other day. And it follows Conner's (the main character) life as he follows Jesus and sees who would follow Him and who would betray Him. It is a Christian novel, but I think that everyone should read it and that they would enjoy it.
Arcadia
I have to second Catcher in the Rye and third Lord of the Flies, for the same reasons. Holden Caulfield is just about my favorite literary character of all time. The Great Gatsby because Nick is a close second to Holden, and because I love F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you've ever read any of his books you'll know he's got a really unique style of presenting the story, and his characters are always so well done. They learn and grow and screw up and by the end of the book, they've changed somehow (for better or for worse), and you kind of learn a little something yourself. Catch-22, absolutely. It's hysterical, but at the same time, horribly cynical and I love that. And it says so much. I don't understand people who don't like this book. I'm also an enthusiastic fan of Shakespeare's plays, especially Hamlet, Macbeth, and Much Ado About Nothing. Other authors would be Edward Albee, Oscar Wilde, and Aldous Huxley, just to name a few.
Zen
The Tao of Bruce Lee: this book is amazing. Not just about Bruce Lee, but about how the author was inspired by him to get in shape and become a martial artist. How his movies and the martial arts gave him self confidence. And how he found many haunting secrets about his beloved inspiration. Holes: No question about it this book is a must read for anyone who enjoys a great story. Plus it has a few funny bells and whistles. Like the main character's name, Stanley Yelnats. Spelt the smae forwards and backwards. Salamandastron: A saga in the Redwall series, tells the story of a great war bewteen an army of bandits and a castle that his cornered and short of supplies called, Salamandostron. Dagger
Ahhh, so many books to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites: Jane Eyre is a complex, beautifully written story about the conflict between love and one's principles. The characters are deep and memorable, and although it's an 'old book,' I still think the language is quite accessible. I also like the fact that Jane is strong but imperfect #######. Even though she makes many mistakes, you can't help but root for her. Andrew Lang's Blue Fairy Book. You're never too old for fairy tales. And Andrew Lang's series of Fairy Books encompasses so much more than what's found in Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson, or the Arabian Nights. These stories are entertaining and surprisingly dark. Many retain their gritty, ironic tone--not to mention the blood, gore, and sex--which has been edited out of most fairy tale collections for children. The Beekeeper's Apprentice is a clever, original story about a young woman who meets Sherlock Holmes. It's funny, well plotted, and surprisingly historically accurate. I would recommend this book and its sequels to just about anyone. And of course, there's always Lord of the Rings. ~Dagger~
Baron Samedi
Originally posted by Aki88 PS: please don't make any comments about us, Newbies. It has nothing to do with our writting.
Sorry, had to quote that. Heh. Some stupid fool had to make this thread. No insult intended Meteora. The Rising Sequence: I read this in Year 7, and I really enjoyed this. It was interesting- a fantasy story- but it really drew me in. I like books that make you forgetful of anything outside the book. LoTR: I read it all in one book. It drew me in. A very good read, the plot is awesome, everything is well done. I have many, many, many more. I am a semi-bibliophile. I used to read so much, but now I OB more. Heh. These kind of questions are extremely diffuclt for most book fanatics to answer, considering there are so many good books.
I, Colossus
Newbie is a state of mind, titles/post counts mean absolutely nothing. I am not a big reader, but I have read two titles I found absolutely amazing. First up is a book I discovered back when I was in fourth grade. We took a trip to the art museum and I fell in love with Vincent Van Gogh's paintings. So I went to library, in hope of finding a biography, instead I found "The Van Gogh Cafe". It's a tiny little book that'll most likely take you under an hour to read. But it's wonderful, it's about 2 characters an adult and a child (their names escape me, it's been a while) who own and run a cafe named after Van Gogh. It tells of the strange little miracles that happen because of the magic of Van Gogh. ^__^ Next is one I just recently read and I am ASTOUNDED not one person mentioned it. "Flowers For Algernon". It's about a retarded man named Charlie Gordon, who undergos an operation that will help make him smarter, however he becomes a super genius and get's really messed up.
The end is so sad too, his intelligence starts regressing and he becomes retarded again. He has no recollection of it (except a few minor things) or his love affair with his former teacher Alice.
There you have it...the only 2 books I've ever enjoyed reading. Carr
I just though of another book I love: The Girl with the Pearl Earring. It is an awesome book. I cannot really describe exactly why I like it so much. It is about a painter and I love to paint. The author(I can't remember the name at the moment) discribes paining wonderfully and the writing style is also good. It has a sort of meloncholy happy ending again. But it's not quite any of those reasons. I just love the book. ^_^
Rhys Mayiessen
Originally posted by Eclectic My favourite book is the last in a trilogy. It's 'The Amber Spyglass' by Philip Pullman. It's really deep and philosophical on things ranging from religion to love to magick to life. I can't say too much, or it will give away the whole thing. You should read it.
I've read the trilogy too^^ I really like it but I can't say that its my favorite
didn't think anybody would mention it. I LOVE that book. that and the Hero and the Crown. I agree though, the Blue Sword is better. the only gripe I have with it is the first couple of chapters, which are boring as all get out. but once they're done with, the rest of the book's great. haven't read anything else by Robin McKinley though >.>'
I faintly remember a book called the Blue Sword and I seem to remember the authors name too. I seriously don't remember anything about the book though >.< I read it such a long time ago. Okay now for my favorite books, It would have to be the Annotated Chronicles by Margret Weis and Tracy Hickman. Its a series of three books of Dragonlance (a huge series) and I just love it! It has everything that a fantasy person is looking for. Elves, dragons, dwarfs, kender (haha not normal people), and crazy lunatic wizards that are actually gods. Words can't describe how good these books are. So I command you to read them now!

Shinmaru
Holy crap, I just remembered that book. I read it in...8th grade I believe. Amazing, amazing story. Thanks for mentioning it Shroom...I now need to go and find it so that I can read it, as I've forgotten most of what happens in it (damn my memory). Japan
I have two favorite books. One of them is called, "Cloud of Sparrows," by Takashi Matsuoka, and the other is, "Shogun," by James Clavell. The reason why I like Cloud of Sparrows is because it is a Japanese fictional historical novel about Samurai's, ninjas, and geishas. It is very entertaining and very informative. It is about a love story with a lord who can tell the future and a famous geisha. It is very great. The reason why I like Shogun is because it is another Japanese fictional historical novel. It explains more of the culture of Japan. You learn a few Japanese words and phrases as well.
Meteora
I just finished reading a book called First King of Shannara. Its one of the best books of all time. Its really good. Its by Terry Brooks and he puts a lot of detail into this book. It also tells the background for the rest of the Shannara books. I remember Flowers for Algernon. It was a sad book. I was happy though at the fact that he finally had a chance to become smart. It sucks though cuz you cant change what happenes in stories.
Rockstar Haruko
I have two favorite books of all time. My first is False Memory by Dean Koontz. I love his writing style and how he put the plot together. I think he has a very wild imagination. His stories are sorta like the kind I want to write when I beome a writer. Edit: I meant to name my second fav. but I had to go. I can't remember what it was right now anyway. poo.
maikiratori
Well when it comes to my favorite book, there are just too many to choose from...I'd have a list a mile long and then some...I'm not kidding either... Well I can give you a little bit of my incredibly long list... The Otori Series- It is a historical fiction series, based on ancient Japan or around that time frame... It is based in the 1200's(I think) written by Lian Hearn...Hearn is a very good author and really makes the characters come to live while you read and he manages to draw you into the story as if you were there standing and watching everything. I am not the cryin sort, but I cried when some of the main characters died. This is a wonderful series and I hope others like it as much as I do. The Myth Series- Young adult fiction, this series isn't really based on anything, but I found it funny and entertaining. Written by Robert Asprin, the entire series from Another Fine Myth to Sweet Mythtery of Life is filled with the funny adventures of Skeeve, Aahz and the rest of their misfit, magikal friends who live on first Klah, then Deva, looking for jobs and a way out of the trouble that always seems to be looking for them. J.R.R. Tolkien- Anything written by J.R.R. Tolkien is an automatic favorite. I absolutely love his work and I am greatly saddened because he is no longer among us, producing wonderful stories that are thought provoking, mystical in their story telling, and adventurous. The books are filled with the classic mystical creatures, like Elves, Orcs, Ogres, Goblins and many other fairy tale creatures. I cannot say how much I love all of his work. Harry Potter- I know that I may be 16 and reading Harry Potter books is considered adolecent amongst my peers, but I love the books and I love the way they are written. J.K. Rowling does a magnificent job of making the reader attatched to almost all of the characters, I must say that when one of them dies or is in some way betrayed, misled, or in some other way hurt I feel sad, angry or confused for them. This is just a small sample of the list I have going for me...Among my other favorite authors are Stephen King, Marry Higgens Clark, Phillip Pullman, Jean M. Aule. Ane many more, but I'm starting to get a headache from something so I'm going to stop my list here.
stormy_weather
my favorite books are.... --Lord of the Rings (series)-- The way Tolkien writes is so...i dont know, its just really good. He makes up these mythical creatures that you can picture when u read it, the movies are ok but they dont come close to the books. --Red Moon and Black Mountain-- This story has a great plot. Its sorta sci-fi but still kool. Since the novel follows 2-3 people at a time it keeps a pretty fast pace. The story includes magic and some mythical creatures and has some battles. --Harry Potter (series)-- The Harry Potter books are at a lower lexile level than i usually read but the story is so good that i was hooked on it when i read the first chapter. The background story is perfect and every book unvials something new that conects to the other books in some way. The story in the first 2 books were simalar and not as good (i thought the 5th book was the best)
Kanariya
My favorite books would have to be this horror series, it's not goosebumps, another horror series about cheerleaders that haunt people and bloody and things. I like these books because they get me on the edge and are very nice to read. I am one of those readers who likes mystery/scary type books. For my reading homework, I had just written a little story about ghosts and murder. My best friend says she likes it, but of course, she's my friend. These kind of books are my favorite, even if they give me haunting nightmares. And I will ignore Meteora's little comment...
maikiratori
I was goning to add the Princess Diaries Series, I really liked it because it was historical fiction in a fun and interesting way. The series took the historical figure and brought them to life in a way that was almost tangable... I kinda forgot to put that in my last post...Sorry ^_^
Arasoi
My favorite book of all time would have to be Leave Myself Behind by Bart Yates. I've read it at least three times over the past few months. I love the book mostly because there's homosexual romance within it (which I love). However, I like it even more because it isn't just that, it has another storyline incorporated into it as well, rather than just the romance. I'd recommend it to anyone who is interested in gay literature.
Shippo
I like many books, but my one in particular would have to be my favorite--- Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. Of course, I cant really say much about this book,(considering I dont want to give out any spoilers!) but i really reccomend it to anyone. I just loved the ending...and the whole idea of dog-hunting.

Ellester41
Hello anyone! I do not have a single favorite book, but I do have a favorite series. That would have to be Animorphs. I know, they ended, but that doesn't mean that they're not good. They are,I think.Anyway, that's what I think, and I am considered wierd by many.
