This can't be worst than some collecting threds that have popped up recently.

Murphy's Law start with "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. " and continues with such simple precepts as "If anything simply cannot go wrong, it will anyway." and "If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something."

Now this thread aims to collect personnal applications of Murphy's law.

One of my favorite, which was proved surprisingly right over years is: "If you are in advance over your timetable, it is probably faulty."

Also, "'Ingenious fool' isn't am oxymoron, it's a pleonasm." (From the fact fool people are so ingenious at finding incorrect ways of doing something.)

Ever since I figured out what it actually meant (it took a couple years) I've been a big fan of the "Peter Principle."

In a hierarchically structured administration, people tend to be promoted up to their level of incompetence.

If you're good at something, you get promoted. If you're good at that, you're promoted again. If you're good at that....well, you get the idea. Sooner or later you're promoted to a level where you have either no experience, no clue what you're doing, or are simply miserable at your job. You don't get promoted at this point, you simply stay where you are, gathering dust and screwing up the workings of your place of employment.

Heh.

For anyone interested in a bit of browsing and a few good laughs, check our your local library for the Murphy's Law books. I think there're three of them, and they're worth an amusing afternoon.

Murphy seemed really depressed :-/ but you have to admit most of it is right, everything can allways go wrong their is a big possiblity of failure.
In a hierarchically structured administration, people tend to be promoted up to their level of incompetence.
I really understand that, I mean no matter what you do you will allways be under educated in something. pretty much the same thing sara said....actually exactly the same thing.

I read most of those, and laughed several times. Sara-yours was funny. And quite true.

But by far the funniest was this one
Murphy was an optimist.
I laughed. Hard. It just struck me as funny. The world isn't as bad as he made it out to be, but you can bet your *** that something will go wrong, with almost everything you do. They are amusing though. I saw a couple of expressions I knew in there too! ^^

Thanks for showing me this.

Let me us some Law of Detachment to Murphy?s Law.

Murphy's Law starts with "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. " and continues with such simple precepts as" Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. " And "If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something."

1) "If anything that can go wrong will go wrong, then anything that can go wrong will go wrong. " (True)

"If anything that can go wrong will go wrong, then if anything that can go wrong will go wrong. (True)

"If anything that can NOT go wrong will go wrong, then anything that can NOT go wrong will go wrong. (True)

If anything that can go wrong will not go wrong, then if anything that can NOT go wrong will go wrong. (True)

The Law Of Detachment is simply. If p -> q , q -> p , ~p -> ~q , ~q -> ~p ( ~ = not ) ( -> = implies )

I cant find a fallacy with Murphy?s law using math. So it must be true.....

"If anything can happen, it will happen to you. And it will happen to you at the worse possible time, resulting in a very unsettling if not disasterious outcome. Why, you ask? Because, my dear child, you are a Mikus!"

-beams- About 4 years ago my family went through a very long string (several years) of bad luck. Our last name is Mikus, so in an attempt to lighten our spirits I created our own Mikus Curse out of Murphy's Law. ^_^

Our luck has since changed...but still, it's fun to remember these things.
