Xyandar
Alot of people in are school are getting into arguments about what TV show is better. Alot of people say The Simpsons are better and the others say Family Guy is better. Personally I think Family Guy is better because it is like the simpsons but more mature...and imature lol. The Simpsons are good but reruns really get annoying. What do you people think is better??
Pagan
I'm a die hard Simpsons fan and will always be one. Of cousre they are better then Family Guy. Family Guy is nothing but reruns bought up by Cartoon Network. The orignal show was canceled after 2 seasons i believe. The only reason it is on the adult swim is to put the kiddies asleep before the real violence comes on. Family Guy got canceled becuse nobody really liked it much they just watched it because nothing else is on. I know the only reason I ever watched was because it was between to good shows and that is still the only reasn i watch it. The show isn't bad I just find it a rip off of the Simpsons. The shows are just to much alike to be a coencedence(sp?).
Vash's girl
I love Family Guy. Stewie drives me crazy! The little baby always making death threats to his mother and stuff. It's classic! Who ever developed Stewie is a genus! Not more than me, but a genus none the less. I saw Seth Green does a voice in Family Guy, who is he? But the Simpsons are awesome too, just so many reruns. Chichiri's Girl
Well I too am I die hard Simpsons fan. In fact at 11:00 I plan to see yet another rerun. It's like friggen trdditio in my house to eat dinner watching the simpsons. I mean Simpsons was the oringnal and as far as I'm concerend Family Guy is just a slightly different rip-off. You have the parents, a big brother and sister, and a little brother. I do love Stewi tho. Something about babies taking over the world just gets me right there ya'know? Yeah and the dog is cool too. Reminds me of dogbert....it's basiclly the same with a father with the crappy job who goes to a bar most of the time and dosen't spend much tim with his kids as he should. Of course I haven't seen it in a year or two so forgive me if that's hazy. Seriouly anything that even TRYS to replace the Simpsons will fail drastitically. Manic Webb
Family Guy is hardly a rip-off of The Simpsons. I don't know where you're all getting that impression. The only characters between both shows who are similar are Homer and Peter. Lois actually finds half of Peter's antics funny, while Marge does nothing but nag Homer. Lisa comes off as an unpopular super-genius, while Meg is just unpopular without being all that smart. Bart is a rebel who gets low grades because he simply refuses to study, while Chris is just an idiot. Maggie and Stewie are nothing alike. Brian is more human than Snowball & Santa's Little Helper will ever be (also more drunk). Homer doesn't have any perverted friends like Quagmire. Lois has a job (teaching piano lessons) and Marge doesn't. Just because both shows are about disfunctional families with idiotic dads, that doesn't mean one is a rip-off of the other. That's like saying That 70s Show is a rip-off of Happy Days. The basics of the show are similar, but they're pretty different when you actually pay attention. Cacophony
Family Guy got canceled becuse nobody really liked it much they just watched it because nothing else is on.
suuure. I think it got cancelled cause very few people knew about it or would give it a chance, that and FOX management sucks:p DOWN WITH FOX DOWN WITH FOX!!! I don't see how a t.v station can cancel Family Guy yet air a show like Paradise Hotel.

I totally agree with you, Manic. Family Guy is vastly different than Simpsons...most people just won't give it a chance. Hell's Fire, did you say that Family Guy is nothig but reruns? That's true, but your point seems less valid when you compare it to the Simpsons. Almost every one of their shows now is a rerun, and when there is a new episode, it's usually a re-used theme. I can't really blame them, seeing as they've been on so long. They're probably running out of ideas. Even so, they can be a lot more repetetive than Family Guy. eleanor
I am not a die-hard Simpsons fan, so I'll say that I think Family Guy is better than the Simpsons. Why? Well for one thing, it makes me laugh...tons more than when I watch the Simpsons. And you know, that's basically my only reason. Both shows were meant to be comedies, and Family Guy makes me laugh more. I sttill think the Simpsons is a great show, though. ^_~ It probably has an extremely huge fanbase...
Semjaza
The Simpsons previously was far more witty than the Simpsons. There were jokes in that show that I didn't even catch until recently and there are plenty more I don't even get. A lot rely on your knowledge of the show as well. Family Guy has very little of that, and so it seems to have much more of a payoff for the average viewer... especiall considering how much more aggressive Family Guy is with its jokes. It doesn't hold back anything. Lately the Simpsons seems to have become more of a Family Guy Lite... I barely watch it anymore, unless it's a rerun. Family Guy was pulled mostly because Fox kept switching time slots on it. It had at least three that I know of. This is basically the same thing that killed off Futurama too. The DVDs have sold more than 250,000 units so far, which was far above expecations. Because of this, McFarlane has been given the go ahead to make a movie length Family Guy, which I believe is going straight to DVD/video. Seth is doing another animated show with Fox, called American Dad. It sounds an awful lot like the Family Guy with a few differences (the dad is a CIA agent or something, and I think Brian is basically replaced by an alien -- but I don't remember for sure), so I don't know why Fox doesn't just renew Family Guy in the first place. You might ask why McFarlane would go back to Fox after the whole fiasco with his show, but Fox is all there is right now. No other network is willing to do animation of this type, let alone during primetime viewing hours. Cable networks just don't have enough funding to cover animation this expensive either (a big reason why CN doesn't get just make new Family Guy episodes). Fox is all they've got, sadly. Personally, I think Futurama was better than both the Simpsons and Family Guy seasons it was up against.
Vicky
Simpsons is hardly reruns too. I watch it on sunday, it's 'All new'. I always watch simpsons. Family guy..I hardly watched it. They both have their own unique humor. The SImpsons has a more witty and satirical humor while Family Guy has an outrageous slap-stick style. Semjaza
I don't see how it insults anything. There are jokes in the Simpsons that some people simply won't get because they refer to VERY specific things. As I said, there are some I don't get. It depends on the situation. There are times where I watched it when I was younger and I simply didn't get jokes that I totally get now... and it's not because it's some adult-minded theme like most of Family Guy's jokes, it's because there's simply a lot more background information to a lot of it (which I think has diminished in recent years, but it's still there). Yes, Family Guy has this too... but to a far lesser extent (of course there are also far less seasons, but even comparing the first few years it works). They are totally different shows in their approach to humor. Family Guy goes right for the throat, The Simpsons step around a lot of things. It's more "sophisticated", for lack of a better word, in that sense (again, this has diminished with some of the new people in charge such as Ian Maxtone Graham), something even Seth McFarlane would agree with based on his interviews. If you were insulted by that, you're either very sensitive or totally misinterpreted me... especially considering I included myself in the group that doesn't get some of the "in jokes" on the Simpsons. There was no hidden jab at any of the viewers in there. There just isn't much to know about the Kool-Aid Man bursting into a court room, as funny as it may be. Of course, there isn't much to know about Homer hitting a jukebox like the Fonz and bleeding all over the place (giving further creedance to my comments about the Simpsons becoming a Family Guy Lite... hell, you could even say it's more like Itchy and Scratchy than the normal Simpsons at this point). Generally, the Simpsons just hasn't worked like that. I have a hard time believing that anyone could contest that and I'm sure many would back me up on it. I've watched plenty of both for god knows how long, read interviews, visited sites... I know how they work and what they want to accomplish. I'm not coming from a one sided angle here, nor am I attacking either of them or those who watch them. This isn't some thinly veiled "People who watch Family Guy are stupider!! hahaha" post lol. There is no hidden agenda or insult to anyone because if there was I'd be insulting myself, considering I like both shows quite a bit. The seasons of Family Guy that exist are far better than the last several Simpsons years.

TNN and Global TV also air it once a week I think... but Teletoon is every night at 9 pm and 1 am. A difference from Family Guy and The Simpsons is that Family Guy deals with more Sexual humor than just jokes. Theres also the parts that are soo stupid it makes u laugh(Peter farts on stage for 2 minutes straight). The Simpsons are mostly stories being told with a few jokes being put in there. The new episodes are trying to bring in better humor but I think The Simpsons are almost finished with the humor. Dont get me wrong, I love the simpsons. Watched them ever since i was 5 ... but they got to make it funnier because I just dont laugh at them anymore.
Semjaza
Their is a difference between simply airing something and actually being able to fund new episodes. That's what I was spealing of. Who carries it where means very little. Hell, even TBS shows Family Guy and Futurama at around noon.
Originally posted by Xyandar Theres also the parts that are soo stupid it makes u laugh(Peter farts on stage for 2 minutes straight).
This also totally backs up my last post, in my opinion... even though the Simpsons has these sorts of totally goofy moments, they aren't as much of a focus as with Family Guy. Ravenstorture
Well, I only saw a few episodes of Family Guy and I was completely hooked. It was only on for a few months though, but that's how things go on chanel seven. That's right, australian television. Well, I loved family guy, and immediately put it higher than the simpsons on my list, but that's not to say I love the simpsons too. I honestly can't say what it was about FG that I loved so much, and it was a while ago, but there were a few things I remember that just made me scream with laughter. When the head guy flicks out the picnic mat a couple of times and gets mashed by the bull - that hurt. I got bad stitches from laughing at that when I saw it. Another thing I remember is an episode where I think they were at a carnival and they met this guy... he might have been famous in real life, I don't remember. But this guy kept darting around the screen, it was hilarous... both of those things include quick graphics, I wonder if that's a coincidence? Anyway, I didn't see enough of Family guy, which was dissapointing. But I loved it so much. Simpsons can get annoying, there are some episodes that are so good you don't care watching them again and again, and there are some you just have seen enough of. My favorite simpsons charecters are Snake, the comic book shop guy, and Duff Man. Every bit they are in amuses me greatly. Both are very clever shows, I don't know why Family guy is my favorite, perhaps it's a bit more cutting edge. Who knows. Give me more family guy and I'll see if I can work it out. Ares
I prefer Family Guy because it is funnier to me. But Simpsons is kind of a classic in my opinion lol. But I'll have to go with Family Guy. It's funnier and the characters are funny enough. :alcohol:
