A thread about Kill Bill

This movie looks really good. It looks like the Matrix meets Charlie Angel with a twist of the Godfather mixed in. I really like the plot from what I've seen about it. It is your normal mafia revenge flick where someone gets set up an that person has to clear there name. I love all movies with Lucy Liu in them she is such a great actress. Quentin Tarantino is a great director and really deserves the credit he gets. This movie is going to be one of the greatest this Fall season.

I'm really excited about it. The only person I've talked to about it was Charles, who thought it looked goofy in the trailers... and yeah it does, but no more so than From Dusk Till Dawn, which I thought was fun.

The stunts are done by the guy who did the stunts for Iron Monkey, so I'm not worried about that at all. I'm also hearing its incredibly violent, although the trailers don't seem to show anything to indicate that.

Let's see here. The woman uses a sword, there are several other blade-type weapons shown, and two women try to kill each other with kitched knives(stopping when the child of one of them gets off the bus and walks in the door). Yeah, I'd say it'll be violent. Messy? Maybe, but I don't know. Violent? Yes. But that's a good thing.

I'm pretty tempted to go find and read the Kill Bill book (also by Tarantino, I believe). I read that it was released earlier this year.

Yeah. I think it looks interesting. The previews I've seen make it look intense, as well as a little funny. Lucy Liu had a clip when she was on Leno the other night, and I can't wait to see what her character can do. Most of the cast seems pretty well picked-out. Not all of it, though.

I'm a little worried about Vivica A. Fox being in it. If you're a reader of The Boondocks newspaper comic like I am, then you probably know the myth that every movie she's ever been in has been a really bad African-American comedy. Everything she touches (numerous movies, TV series, ect.) tends to be bad. The mystery is whether she herself drags them down, or whether she's just really bad at picking roles.

Of course, the ensemble of this movie (under the watchful yet very strange eye of Quentin Tarantino) couldn't possibly be pulled down by her performance. It's just an urban myth, anyway.

Anyway, the only thing I'm looking forward to more than Kill Bill 1 is Kill Bill 2, which should be coming out early next year.

I was meaning more along the lines of gory. Obviously it will be violent in those terms, but I guess I take violence to the next level when I think about it.

I'm still surprised Uma Thurman is even around anymore.

From what I've seen, Kill Bill looks pretty good.

Tarantino obviously stylized this flick after the Japanese Anime and Hong Kong Kung Fu movies.

You can see the anime aspects in some of the character designs, such as the white haired lady with the eye patch, and the Japanese school girl withe ball and chain.

I've also learned that there will be a short anime cut scene in the movie somewhere.

Oh, and the great Sonny Chiba is gonna be in it a little. He's supposed to play a swordsmith, or something.

After seeing all the previews, I still have one question. Why do the yakuza guys wear those funny black masks?:therock:

Oh well, I hope it'll be as good as Tarantino's other movies.

I have something to say about this. I noticed that Kill Bill is greatly infleunced by the late Bruce Lee's works. The black mask's, as WW2 has stated, seem to resemble the black mask worn by Bruce Lee in "The Green Hornet" television series aswell as there suits. Uma Thurmans Yellow Jump suit resembles, almost exactly, Bruce's yellow track suit in "The Game of Death". Many otehr elements of "The Game of Death" are in it too. Like the multi level opponent themes, as she moves from one opponent to the next, each being more challenging than the last. So, if it is as good and has the same spirit of the Bruce Lee movie philosophy, then htis might be pretty good.

PS- heres a link to a few trailers:

And the Official Site:

PSS- Also, the man who played in Bruce's original series that he never was able to star in, "Kung Fu", is playing Bill.

Well, I'm really lookiing foward to seeing this movie. I saw a commercial/interview with Tarantino in it today and he said the whole point of this movie was to see how far his talent could go...or something like that, the exact quote escapes me. I also got an article of it in this month's Newtype. There are two japanese animation style sequences, supposedly they show things that would be too hard to watch if they weren't animated. Also, commenting on Semjaza's mentioning of Uma Thurman, it says in the article that Uma Thurman's character, The Bride is the one Tarantino is most interested in. He has some plans of making a feature length anime explaining the back story of The Bride. His plan is to follow her evolvement and he wants to keep using Uma Thurman for years to come, "for as long as they can stand each other."

'The VILLAGE VOICE last week declared MIRAMAX/DISNEY's KILL BILL "The Most Violent American Movie Ever Made," and the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER warned it "oozes, drips, flows, gushes, splatters... scalps, limbs and heads are freely removed from characters' bodies."'

That's what I meant by violence. The trailers do not give that impression at all. I can't wait to see it heh.

Well, I don't know as much as some of you guys know about it, but I really liked the music. But let me get this straight, Disney is taking part in a movie that has "oozes, drips, flows, gushes and splatters. At least it isin't hidden porn. I have to see it, even though I am only 14 and can't get in by my self. Ah, the life of a minor.

:( I'm not old enough... I'm 17 and people think I'm 12 anyway... GAH! This does look really good, something in the trailer caught my eye definitely. Meh, this is just the humble opinion of me, so you don't even have to pay attetion to me... :D

Hmm... yet another new look, cool. I MISS MY HAIR DAMMIT!

I just saw a filmography on MTV News about Kill Bill. And everything I said in my last post..... IS TRUE! YES! I'm the greatest! Quetin Tarantino did Infact get the Mask Idea, Uma Thurmans wardrobe, and the basis for the multi level opponents from Bruce Lee and his works, "The Green Hornet" and the "Game of Death". YES! I love being right.

*gives double B a cookie for being right*

now calm down.

Anyway a gilrfriend and I are going to go see it tonight and we hope the movie lives up to all the praise its been getting. I have noticed one thing though and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the movie a two parter? I'm under the impression that part two will be out in november.

In any case It looks like a movie in where you love it or you don't, wich could or couldn't be a bad thing.

Nice observation. :)

That's precisely what Tarantino is. You either love his movies or you hate his movies. I have never heard of anyone who was totally in the middle regarding Pulp Fiction.

Some of my relatives walked out of the movie theatre during it and still refuse to watch it, while other relatives are like, "Pulp Fiction!? ******* awesome!" lol.

Reservoir Dogs is the same way. Either love it or you hate it.

I think it takes a different level of appreciation for film to really love Tarantino's films. I've never met a film student that I go to school with who is anything BUT in love with Tarantino. Some of my friends who are in the film program downloaded the trailer months ago, watching it over and over until I thought it had become a unique form of masturbation for their movie-oriented minds.

If I had seen Pulp Fiction before attending photography school alongside film students [and therefore being subjected to heavily film-oriented general ed classes], I know that I wouldn't have liked it as much as I do now. It took that extra 'filmology' insight that was punched into me before I finally saw movies as more than a basic storyline or bad acting.

Tarantino's films can be seen as far beyond what non-movie buffs could consider 'good'. Then again, Kill Bill I and II may end up being a exceptions because of their wide action appeal. Who knows?

I'm going to see it tonight with a group of friends, mainly film majors. I'll have to write about how I like it later.

Funny, I watched Pulp Fiction again tonight. It is a perfect film. I can only vocalize my extreme joy of it and my..."blown-away-ness" at the end with cursing. That is how unbelievably excellent it is.

I don't say this about people often, but Tarantino...is a ******* genius.

Pulp Fiction...perfect film...PF...whoa.

Do tell me what you thought of Kill Bill Vol. 1.

I read a review of it in the Philly Inquirer. 2 stars out of four. I checked out the reviewer's other review of...some kid-friendly Disney-esque...ET rip-off starring a space pooch. 3 out of 4 stars.

Yeah, I think the reviewer is slanted against violence. I don't trust any of the Philly Inquirer reviews anymore.

The review of Intolerable Cruelty: "Geoffrey Rush (funny for the first time)" wtf. The reviewer lost all credibility there. Geoffrey Rush was hilarious in Shakespeare In Love and Mystery Men.

So, I will see Kill Bill regardless of what monkey is typing on a typewriter in the local paper. heh.

That movie was really F-ed up to say the least. It even threw in some anime.... very odd, and very typical Tarantino. It's deffinantly worth watching.
Yeah, I thought the anime part was kind of stupid at first, but then I realised
that they couldn't have an 11 year old girl having sex with and then killing the old man. =P This film was amazing, there were so many parts where I felt so many differen't emotions. It's hard for me to explain it, but it was just an immersing expirience. Just to let anyone who pukes easily that this movie isn't for you, there is so much gore in the movie even I shuddered a bit. The beggining freaked me out, with her face all ****** up and that it was in black and white and Bill's voice. Not to mention "Bang Bang" by Nancy Sinatra", that helped make the atmoshpere even scarier. The fight scenes were amazing, best in any movie ever. No questions asked. I noticed some classic samurai movie influence with the blood spatters all over the place and whatnot.
And for those who don't know, at the end there is quite a cliffhanger.

As much as I love the movie (Fourth best of all time in my opinion) I can't really think of much to talk about. So that's it for no.

Not f-ed up, f-ing AMAZING! Well, ok, maybe it's a little screwed up here and there, but that's what makes it so awesome.

I am definitely not the blood and gore type, but last night I seemed to be the only one who wasn't affected by how much was in the movie. I didn't think that it was any worse than other gory movies I've seen.

First of all:
I thought that the whole smaurai movie immitation of blood acting as a huge, spouting fountain when limbs were cut off actually took the edge OFF of how gory it was. It made the dismemberment almost comical to me, and it also his choice to use the technique impressed me.

My friend Jon explained to me last night that in old samurai films they used the fountain of blood technique when heads were cut off because it was to symbolize the slow motion of blood flying out of a wound before they actually knew how to technically do slow motion. Tarantino just incorporated that old technique with real-time motion, making it seem like excessive amounts of blood were squirting out of wounds. But I still think it was a great way to take the edge off of the violence!

And for the anime part, I found that to be an homage to the Japanese culture in general. I loved how they used it, the animation style was really cool, definitely not typical anime-style at all. I also think it was used as a break from the real gore, as were the black and white scenes so that the audience's eyes got a break from all the splattering red.
And the colors, they were beatiful. Very colorful, very saturated, grainy, high-key, just really nice. I liked the look of it.

Yeah, I'll wait until more people have seen the movie before I discuss it further. I want to actually have a conversation with someone about it ^_^

I loved this movie! It has been a good 12 hours since I've seen it, but I still can't get over how amazing it was. The violence was a little extreme, like when
The Bride fought the Crazy 88
, but it worked perfectly in the context of the film. From the opening scene to the last line of dialogue, everything just managed to mesh together perfectly.

I'm having a little trouble trying to describe this movie, but I highly recommend it to anyone who isn't overly offended by movie violence. Kill Bill Volume 2 is only a few months away, hooray!

Wow....this movie was so good it almost arroused me! Oops! I didn't mean to say that.

Seriously, everyone who has spoke about this movie have it to a T! The anime scene was very enjoyable and like Babygirl said, i believed that it really did show that Tarantino knew what he was doing when he wanted to make a Japanese/Kung Fu-esque movie. Like many others have said, when i say the trailers i thought it was a comedy. Even the name "Kill Bill" doesn't seem to me to be "The most violent film to date!". I loved this film al over, and all of the aspects everyone has discussed already are exactly what i thought.
I was however, taken aback at the opening scene how she was just...there...with her whole face smashed in, that was pretty freaky.
.

Well i hope i can have a good discussion about this movie and i can't wait until the sequel. Is it February that Kill Bill II comes out?
Oh, yeah, and if you like the rest of Tarantino's work and are up for a good action flick. CHECK THIS FILM OUT!

First words after the end credits were "holy ****!' wich has to count for something.

I went with the intentions of hearing some minor curse words and a splater of blood here or there, what I ended up with was one ******* bloody mess!

Tarantino definitely knows how to deliver his art to people, even if some of them couldn't get it. Kill bill sent me into a daze to where the point of
the crazy eighty eight
I wasn't sure i was conscious anymore, maybe it was the blood?

Anyways this is one of the best movies I have had the pleasure of watching in all my seventeen years, and I don't think I'll be able to contain myself untill Kill bill 2.

And i have a question, what was everyones favorite death in the movie?
I liked the part where "Black moomba" killed buck in the begining, he deserved it the perverted bastard.
This movie is a masterpiece. Everything about it was amazing. Eventhough it was so incredible bloody, the choreography behind it all was unbelivable. I thought they captured the sick and sadistic nature of Japanese culture pretty well in the anime sequence and in GoGo's charector. I think my favorite part was definetly the opening; it was just so "different" that it set the tone for the movie. Two inthusiastic thumbs cut off and shooting blood into the air!

Yeah GoGo was AWSOME! She was my favorite character after the Bride. You know how the blood squirted like that? For some odd reason it reminded me of the Black Knight in"Monty Python and the Holy Grail". I kept expecting someone to say "it's just a flese wound". I'm so weird....But the anime part was pretty cool. It was kinda freaky how
the assasion pulled the sword out of her father and the blood blasted out
That was probably the only part of the movie that made me go ewwwww. It was awsome when
the Bride fought crazy 88 and she fell and started choppin off their feet an legs. Oh and when there was only that teen left and she started chopin his sword then spanked him.
But talk about cliff hangers! Ugh! Does anybody know when the next one comes out? Oh if any of you are wondering how the hell I got into an R movie my dad took me and my big bro while my mom is out of town. She forbade me and my bro to go but my dad don't care!
