I'm like a opium addict when it comes to LOTR, I just want more!

Are you sure you want to make this comparison...?
Arrived at my lodgings, it may be supposed that I lost not a moment in taking the quantity prescribed. I was necessarily ignorant of the whole art and mystery of opium-taking: and, what I took, I took under every disadvantage. But I took it: -- and in an hour, oh! Heavens! what a revulsion! what an upheaving, from its lowest depths, of the inner spirit! what an apocalypse of the world within me! That my pains had vanished, was now a trifle in my eyes: -- this negative effect was swallowed up in the immensity of those positive effects which had opened before me -- in the abyss of divine enjoyment thus suddenly revealed. Here was a panacea -- a [pharmakon nepenthez] for all human woes: here was the secret of happiness, about which philosophers had disputed for so many ages, at once discovered: happiness might now be bought for a penny, and carried in the waistcoat pocket: portable ecstasies might be had corked up in a pint bottle: and peace of mind could be sent down in gallons by the mail coach. But, if I talk in this way, the reader will think I am laughing: and I can assure him, that nobody will laugh long who deals much with opium: its pleasures even are of a grave and solemn complexion; and in his happiest state, the opium-eater cannot present himself in the character of Il Allegro: even then, he speaks and thinks as becomes Il Penseroso. Nevertheless, I have a very reprehensible way of jesting at times in the midst of my own misery: and, unless when I am checked by some more powerful feelings, I am afraid I shall be guilty of this indecent practice even in these annals of suffering or enjoyment. The reader must allow a little to my infirm nature in this respect: and with a few indulgences of that sort, I shall endeavour to be as grave, if not drowsy, as fits a theme like opium, so anti-mercurial as it really is, and so drowsy as it is falsely reputed.

An addiction so great he couldn't wait :)

I understand the comparison is a little odd. Mainly I mean the addiction is so great you just can?t stop thinking/wanting it.

Also I am rather pleased Mitch. I enjoy literature so...feel free to send me more!

Yeah, I'm thrilled about this one! I think I'm gonna see at midnight opening day. *giggles* Unlike a lot of people, I liked LotR before the movies, and I don't go back just for Orlando Bloom. Oh, yeah, and Bobba Fett, I gagged when I saw him shield surf down those stairs. That was pathetic.
Anyway, I'm lookin' forward to Shelob, The Paths of the Dead, Eowyn's kick-*** heroism, and just about everything else! It's gonna be awesome. I'm a big Aragorn fan (yeah...I completely fell in love w/ him when I was reading the books...yeah I know..."pathetic"...):smooch: so I'm really excited.

Wow. . I need to read the books *shakes head* I just have to wait till the movies are already out before just ruining it for myself =)

My brothers found a really sweet set up for the final movie. They found, for $36, we can watch all three movies, back-to-back-to-back on December the 17th. . . *drools* . . . that will be a fun day. Though. . they found that on E-Bay, the tickets are going for upwards of $450 for a pair (and going up all the time), so it's possible that if for the right money, they might just sell them, and collect some serious cash. . *shrug* We'll see. . What am I expecting? I am expecting this movie to be the best of them all.
I want to see the death of the witch king...and that (erg, can't remember names) girl that is...I believe...related to Theoden die. I also want to see Shelob in all her bitchin glory.

This is where they didn't remain nice to the books...in the second book, Frodo and Sam meet up with Shelob at the end, and The Witch King and that one gal do battle to the death of them. This was what I was really looking forward to in the second movie...but didn't get it.

Yeah, her name is
Eowyn
and she doesn't die.. but
Theoden
does. Actually she..
gets her arm broken fairly badly from a nice hit from WK's mace, then is poisened by his... BREATH.
If that's not badass.. I don't know what is.

Jackson has been changing the format to set it into movie format (i.e. Boromir's death scene in fellowship). *shrug* I liked the movies, personally, thought they did justice.

I think Tolkein would be impressed, in fact, he wanted hollywood to take a stab at his books.. too bad he wasn't able to see it, and the money-grubbing estate he left behind bickered about the smallest details... it's lucky we even HAVE these movies.

Sure there were a few screwed up parts (elves never went to Helms Deep..), but I think he's done alright. I suppose the only thing that could've been improved was his dialogue... even though he was just trying to "simplify" it for the commoners ;)

"The dwarf" is called Gimli. And though the action will surely be magnificient, I hope that's not the only reason you plan on watching RotK. There's so much more to both the books and the movies than fighting--no matter how epic its battles, LotR is ultimately about plot and characters.

If you've read the trilogy, you'll know what I mean. Tolkien's material was never intended for description-phobics.

One word: Legolas!!!!!

....

....

Okay, and I'd really like to see the
weddings
, and the Battle of Pelannor Fields, and Shaelob, and...*trails off*

Overall, this movie looks amazing. A few of my friends and I went to see 'Secondhand Lions', partially just to see the 'Lord of the Rings' trailer. Everything looks spectacular, and I can't wait! I'm dragging my dad over to the movies at about 6:00 on December 16th to buy tickets and wait in line. ^-^;'

Okay, it might be a bit demented but ever since I read the books (before the movies, mind you) I have always enjoyed the part in ROTK where
they through flamming heads of the fallen in to Minas Tirith
. It probably won't happen, but it might so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
