terra
Well, one of my best friends has started a club for people who draw comics and manga and what-have-you, since for some reason there isn't one in the entire school. Anyway, she's coerced me into joining even though I don't draw anything, supposedly for the "graphic design" aspect. (Since it's her club, I guess she can do whatever she wants.) She (being a loving best friend) gave me an assignment, because nobody else wanted it: to make an advertisement poster for the club's next meeting. Since it's a comics club, I came up with this idea. I shrunk it down quite a bit so the text is a little distorted, but hopefully you can still read it. (The text is clearer in the original.) I plan to put a copyright disclaimer or something on it, though I'm still a little hesitant about printing out Ken Akamatsu's work and posting it all over campus. Most of the panels came from different pages of the manga, which is why I am proud I stole them and put them together to fit my own "storyline." Comments/criticism/whatever welcome. :)
Semjaza
I think it's a pretty cool idea, honestly. I'm not familiar with this Akamatsu guy as I no longer keep up with manga... just Western comics heh. I think it does an excellent job of telling you what it is, while still remaining entertaining on some level. I think it would attract anyone interested in that sort of stuff far more than a simple text flyer with an image. The only thing that seems odd is the typeface in the bubbles. It seems too sharp or something... I also think there are some comic book fonts around the web that would be a bit more fitting.
Dagger
Hehe, that's amusing. And very well done. It'll grab people's attention far better than the ordinary poster/flyer. Just put a little disclaimer on it, like you said, and you'll be fine. ~Dagger~
Haze
me like! who is this Ken Akamatsu??? i am so hopelessly deprived. . . *hangs head* but it is quite nice. and really funny! ^__^ what manga did you theive from? it has a very lush-shojo style. im likin it. keep up the coolness, eh? ~haze
terra
Thanks, folks. :) Ken Akamatsu is the creator of Love Hina, the manga from which I took the pictures. I only had to look through the first two volumes for all the pictures I needed, ... thank goodness. (There are fourteen volumes of the manga.) Anyway, I will look into those comic book fonts you speak of, Tony. Never heard of them before. Though it makes sense that they'd exist.
Baron Samedi
terra, terra, terra.....I love it. How you have done it blends it together, and follows the story on. You chose good images for what areas you were discussing. The pictures are clear as well, and it all looks good. A possible font change could help... it doesn't seem quite right. Try a more 'written' style instead of the printed text style. Very good, eye-catching. 8.5/
AzureWolf
I think comic sans is the standard comic font. You might want to try that and see how it looks. You should have it (I think everyone has it), so you won't have to bother searching around. Besides that, I really love the idea. Haha, that's so clever: using a manga to actually advertise a manga. People might think you are "old school," though. I mean, if you look at all the "modern" advertisements, you never have any clue what the hell they are selling. They leave little hints here and there, but ultimately, the product is the only thing that's not shown in the advertisement. Glad someone still sticks with what works. Very neat idea, and it blends in so well with the pictures that you might assume that's what they were talking about - if you didn't know better. :p
Krademon
I agree with the font change for what the dude says but the chick is fine if you can't re-do it. And the poctures are REALLY well drawn. Did you draw them or just cut and paste them with a scanner?
