Guest paco
hey i have seen one to many newbies (including me) why are there so many newbies and how do you become a member or jonior member i would like to know:flasher: :cussing: :2women: :modrod: :bash:  :smoke: :alcohol:  :flaming:
Semjaza
Well you could start by not posting a million smilies at once. Otherwise the rankings are based simply on post counts. That doesn't mean you should post as much random crap as you can, because it'll be considered spam.
Artemis
Funny, I've noticed the same thing! I think the popularity of this place grows exponentially. (Ergo, each time someone joins, they introduce 3 or 4 people to it, so the number of newbies will just keep on growing!) I think it's also b/c it takes so long to become a junior member. ~Artemis~
Fyxe
Well, the reason why there are so many newbies is because, so many different people join the OB every day. It is all in how many posts you have, I am almost a junior member. You need 250 posts to become a junior member, but I'm not to sure about the other ranks. Plus make sure not to have bad posting quality. Don't just post crap/spam to get your post count up. If you do that often, you will be banned. But welcome to the OB, hope you have a good time here.
OtakuSennen
Well, you can look at the term "Newbie" in two ways, if you want to be sort of deep regarding this topic. 1) You can simply consider one a newbie by post count. To get out of this range you have to have 250 posts. Or you can have the "deeper" way of thinking of a newbie. 2) One can be considered un-newbie-esque (Yep, I'm good at making up words) once they produce long, coherent posts without a dozen random smilies at the end of the post that have nothing to do with anything. This also entails they use proper typing and spelling, along with deep, on-topic thoughts and express them well.
Baron Samedi
OtakuSennen has the idea down.... He knows whats up. And Yeh....cut back on the smilies... 250 posts=Junior Member 500 posts=Member ?=Otaku ?=Extreme Otaku ?=No Life ?=I live here
Valen
To make things easier, I've noticed it doubles every rank. Building on what Baron has: 250 posts=Junior Member 500 posts=Member 1000=Otaku 2000=Extreme Otaku 4000=No Life 5000(I think, ask Raiha)=I live here I think that's all... I guess we'll have to wait for Raiha to break the ranks again...
John
I think no-life is 3000, because I could almost swear seeing a no-life with 3000-some-odd posts. Then again, I can't count to thirty-nine without a calculator...
Krademon
I thought no-life actually came from posting a massive number of posts in a short time. Like 2000 in a month or two? Anyway it's no prob being a newbie. I don't even worry about it. I've been a newbie for over a year because I left posting for a long time and have only come back recently. Respect on the boads dosent come from ammount of posts, it's the quality of your writing. My problem is I think too fast for my hands and tend to have speeelings mastakes :P

Sara
I believe you can have a custom avatar as soon as you join. There are no smilies to "unlock," either. WYSIWYG. Please work on your post quality as well. Punctuation is your friend.

First of all: Yes, you can be banned for poor post quality. This is a discussion-based site. If your post quality is poor, no one will care about what you say, and you drag down the community as a whole. Secondly: I was not attacking you. If anything, you're attacking me right now. And who, exactly, would you report me to? The administrators of the site? James agrees with me, as he's clearly stated in this thread. "Newbies" are viewed in two ways here. One, the member who has not been here very long, or does not post frequently enough to "graduate" the newbie title. Two, the member who somehow slipped thorugh the system and manage not to be banned when his or her post quality is below standard and/or reminiscent of stereotypical "newbie" attitudes. Members in this thread have kindly pointed out to you how to achieve non-newbie status in both cases. Finally: There are plenty of sites online who will allow you to post with whatever "righting" and smiles you like. I suggest you seek them out, for you are no longer welcome here. James
The point is that we require good post quality. Other sites may not -- it's their own choice. So, if you don't like putting effort into your posts, you are free to leave at any time. EDIT: I fully support Sara's decision to ban Paco, by the way. It's one thing to disagree with our rules...it's another to flame staff and members over it.
AuroraDragon
Wow, he was here and gone faster than.....well, I can't think of anything at the moment. Geez oh peats, people like that are just looking for themselves to be ban. Many thanks to Sara and James on that one. Shouldn't this thread be closed though? craig8429
You should really try posting, earn people's respect......otherwise you'll allways be a newbie in people's eyes. And his ideal of internet right's...... when your on a internet board the moderators/admins create the rules.
