I was wondering if anyone goes paintballing here. At my school everyone seems to be getting into it and I want to give it a try. Is it hard or confusing and does it hurt real bad? If someone could get me up to snuff with it all i would be greatful.

I'v only been two times, but its really really fun! It's not confussing. You can have different kinds of.... um.... "Games" I guess you could say. You can have teams, free for all, and others that have to do with getting to a tower first.
It is hard if you have had no experience with a gun or aim. Yeah, they hurt. They arn't that bad, but they can bruse you. They can only kill if the person is really close to you.

Its the best sport ever. Ive been playing it for about 9 years now (on an amateur team for 5 years) and its been my favorite sport out of all the others ive played so far. The first time you go, you will go through a lot of money (around like $100 if you plan on playing a whole day which is sorta a lot of money) but its really worth it. As for it hurting, the only place that you will experience any pain is if you get hit on your hand or if your a guy in the......yea it happen to my friend once he was in pretty much a lot of pain. As for it being hard it depends. Every type of managed field (if your going to one i dont know if your just gonna play in your backyard in the woods or something or on a real field) is different. Some of the rules are that if it hits you anywhere even on your gun your out, but in others its only like your body and head that count as being out. Then theres scenario, elimanation, and speedball type courses/games. If you have the chance do speedball its the coolest thing ever. All in all its well worth it. If your thinking of buying a gun ill tell you which one you should get for the price your looking towards. Hope this helps.

Basically what Marc said........ Except for the hurting part. I played it once, and once only. It was decent enough, but laser tag is the same concept with less pain involved [*moan*] and I'm better at that, simply because I wedge myself in a corner and shoot people all day long.

Getting back to the pain part, I got pegged in the back twice, from a souped up Dark Angel. Never played paintball again. The fact that the balls were frozen, might of had something to do with it.

Wow good point Raiha i forgot about that. Tommy if you do kinda see like the paintballs arent breaking at all when they hit you and when they hit the ground there kinda in a funny contracted type of shape then the kid probably froze them. Like tell the ref that cause its REALLY DANGEROUS not jokin around. Some kid did that at the field i played at and it cracked open the lenses on the mask....basically i dont know what happen to the kid who froze them other than he was banned from the field.

I haven't played recently, mainly because the local arena got closed for safety rennovations. The battlefield was a 2-level warehouse with plenty of obstacles but no room to run. I just rent out equipment for the day and it's pretty expensive for me.

It's a ton of fun though, real good workout of reflexes, marksmanship, and body. The only rules are no hand-to-hand combat and guns must be kept under 350FPS, from what I remember. My friends and I play in a counter-strike like fashion and keep going until the judge "sees" us getting hit. So it can get brutal sometimes but I have a really good time.

Paintball is a great sport. I'm trying to find ways to play it soon.
It's not a hard game, anybody starting out can play it. As for hurting, it hurts at first but soon the pain doesn't bother you. Like pbfrontmanvdp said, it does hurt on the hand, and the other area, but kidney shots can hurt pretty bad too, and on top of the head. So where a hat, or a bandanna, or something along with your mask. Make sure it's a good mask too, in this case, cheaper isn't always the best.

As for the fields, you can play anywhere as long as there aren't a bunch of stupid spectators. I prefer Woodsball, where you just go out into the woods to play a few games. Speedball is pretty good too, but a lot of paint is wasted.
Scenario games are fun as well.

I've been a couple of times, once to a woods course, and once to a big commercial warehouse-type deal. I definitely prefer the woods, just because it feels a little more like actual combat. (said the suburban computer geek... heh. ?_?)

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend that you go at least once, just to say you've done it! It's a lot of fun, and the bruises go away in a day or two. ?_?

Thanks for the info guys. Me and my friends are gonna go to this place called Friendly Fire. Its a pretty big woods course and pbfrontmanvdp I was wondering what type of gun would be best for a newbie like me because I have these woods in my back yard and if I like paintball (though I cant see how I couldnt anymore) me and my buds could play back there.

I prefer Airsoft. Far less popular, but I feel a hell of alot more intimidating behind the sights of a replica M16 than I do some Paintball gun. Plus, I'm into tactical simulation. It's fairly difficult to accurately snipe in paintball, but the dynamics of Airsoft guns allow it far easier.

I'm not talking AIR rifles, just Airsoft.

Airsoft makes them multicolored bb's that are really small and plastic right?

they also make replica Uzi's and stuff >_<

Do you pump paintball guns or do you just shoot cause I'm lost when it comes to the guns?
Depends......some are pump, some are semi-auto, and some are full-auto. Mine has 7 different options in which half the options wont make sense to many people anyway, BUT if your just trying it for the first time go semi not pump. Pump is terrible and usually most of the pump guns are so unaccurate. The standard gun that most field companies use are the standard custom tippman 98 anyway so if i were you i would just rent that gun and try it out. It kinda sucks but its a great beginner gun nonetheless. Hope you enjoy it and possibly get into the sport its really fun.

The bbs are small and plastic. They are usually fired at a bit higher velocity, but they are far more accurate. Because of their smaller size, they pack less Joules, and therefore hurt a bit less too.

However, using paint BB's is HIGHLY unlikely, as Airsoft guns tend to come in fully automatic replica's of real fully auto guns (careful about legal problems here, don't weild them in public, cops WILL think you have an automatic rifle..), paint BBs would break in the barrel and ruin the gun. The downside is that you have to have an honor system in Airsoft. Honor is incredibly important, because you don't have any way of verifying you've been hit except for some pain and a welt the size of a mesquito bite...

And yes.. they make replica uzis. I reccomend the AK47, M16, or if you are sniper, you can get a bolt action replica M-24 (that's what I have). Basically any mainstream military weapon that's in service (mp5, aug), or for the more gaming crowd, any CS weapon is replicated in airsoft form..

Paintballing and lasertag is way different. when you go paint balling you geet that sudden rush that makes you go crazy! while in lasertag your just sitting in a corner shooting some one. I've only played once and i'm saving up for a black dragon. The only time it hurts is when there really close to me. in the course i played at you could surrender so everything should be fine. But a sponsered paintballer was playing capture the flag with us and shot me like 10 ft. away. it was on the knee so it didn't hurt that bad but it kinda stings for a little bit. And make sure you keep your mask on at all times!!!!! that's really all you need to know!

Yes lazertag is very different. Mainly because it's indoors and you don't actually have little balls of plastic or air pellets whizzing past your ear. Also in lazer tag you tend to ahve to keep both hands on your weapon, hit specific points on a person and dodge alot of scenery. Paintball is more active and dngerous. You can get hurt pretty bad if you don't keep you mask on (Like Evolved_Dragon pointed out). But you have alot more versatility because you can hit any part of your opponents body , bar the head, and use natural terrain to your advantage.
Up in Queensland Australia they have campaigns. They last a week and littereing with your paintball cannisters is strickly prohibited. At the end of each day you arrive at a safe house for food, showers, drinks and rest. Your clothes are checked and if you have been mortaly 'wounded' you have to sit the next alf day out untill you can 'respawn'. It usually has two teams of about 20-30 people and costal about $200AUZ (about $320US). Sounds like really good fun bit I gotta wait one more year before I can give you guys a full breifing ;)

$200 AUZ is $138 US:p

I don't have much experience with paintball though I really enjoyed it, most of my friends are boring so they don't usually do stuff like that or I would probably have tried it more, the one place I worked at a bunch of us went in as a group, shooting co-workers is great lol.

Well........considering the last time I did play lasertag, I jumped the guy sneaking up on me and pounded him into a wall.

But that's probably because I had alot of pent up rage. I'm better now. *snort* But seriously, paintball's a bit more of a thrill, for one thing, the guys are cuter underneath the masks, and they pretend to not be hurt when they really are. But I look around here, and I'm starting to think I'm the only female in attendance. Maybe I should go ask Loren to show up and share the paintball wealth with you.
