If you wanted a DISCUSSION on japanese candy, that would be acceptible.
I saw that thread with someone asking for sites where you can buy Japanese candy and I got all excited. I wanted to post about this candy called Yan Yan that I've gotten at a place called Joy's Japanimation which is about 5 minutes from my house. Good stuff! That thread was closed so I made a rule-pleasing thread of my own. ;)

Yan Yan is similar to those Kraft cracker packs you used to eat as a kid. (You know, with the crackers or breadsticks on one side and the nasty yellow cheese on the other). Well, these have several breadsticks with sesame seeds on them on one side of a cylinder and on the other side is a fruity icing-like dip. The strawberry flavor is my favorite. :p

That's about the only kind of Japanese candy I've ever tried, but I know they sell a lot of other types at Joy's. I know that Pocky is really popular.

So who else has tried any Japanese candies? Where do you get it and which are your favorites?

Heh, I've seen them for sale at Suncoast, but haven't tried them yet.

Most of what I saw was chocolate, which sucks since I'm allergic to chocolate.

Hmm, maybe I'll try those Yan Yan things out, when I get the chance.

Ah. Yan Yan. I wouldn't term it a candy, though. More of a snack. And I don't know if it's specifically Japanese ... I've always thought of it as Chinese. But that's probably just because I always got it at the Asian Supermarket, and assumed it was Chinese. (Like me.)

Anyway, Yan Yan is great (though I hate the sesame seed variety), as is Pocky. (They have like ... mousse-flavored Pocky and stuff like that.) (Pocky is practically like Yan Yan, but the chocolate or whatever flavor is solidified on the bread stick thing so you don't have to dip it.)

One Asian candy I always really liked was Tino. Has anyone ever heard of this? It's like ... sort of like Jolly Ranchers, but they came sixteen (or so) in a pack, and all the same flavor. They're flatter and wider than Jolly Ranchers, and they have a sticky flavored center that was just really enjoyable to crunch through. I haven't seen them since I was like twelve, though I have seen a different brand that's exactly like them. Possibly, they merely evolved into a different name ...

Yan Yan is eaither chinese, japanese, or vietnamese. I'm going with vietnamese because it's ussualy found in vietnamese super markets . (i would know because i am vietnamese). But Pocky,Kasugai gummies, and Hello panda cookies are the best!

I buy two types of candy at an Asian market. One I like is crystalized ginger, which is very spicy. The other has ginger in it too, but chewy like taffy and called Ting Ting Jahe. I don't know if they are Japanese candies or not, but they are very delicious. I've never tasted any other candy that I could compare it with here in the U.S. :)

They sell Yan Yan at Filipino stores too. There's Western versions of the stuff all over the place. I get the plain kind, no seeds.

I don't see any reason to care about Japanese candy more than any other place. I've never had any that was so amazing that I've had to have it. I do like that Chinese boton (or whatever the word is) candy though.

You live in greensburgh? I'm 40 mins away I visit quite often to joy's japanimation.

I'll have to try the yan yan's

Usually I try some of the candy they have at joy's japanimation. I also tend to stop in suncoast and pick up the little redhot's that are lime and kiwi.....I have no idea what they are called but they have japanese writing on them.

Yeah I live in Greensburg (no "H"). If you've been to Joy's, you've practically been to my house. Heh heh.

It seems that no one (including me) really knows where any of these candies come from. So let's just talk about any kind of Asian treats, candies, or snacks like most have been doing. :)

We have a Japanese grocery store here. I barely go there because the smell makes me naucious. I went there and got this jolly ranger sorta type candy and it was good. I got some stawberry gummies and those were awesome! I tried the Japanese Hello Kitty candy and I thought I was going to die! It was horrible! Don't try hello kitty candy!

My friends mom used to get them for us all the time. I remember loving them, and I remember them being very, very sweet, and very sticky. I also remember that my friend ate these sweet wafer like Asian cookies...but they weren't very good...

...personally I like Ben and Jerry's Ice cream better than any Asian des(s)ert (edit: forgot ans "s"!) I have ever had...

My friend Erin's aunt and uncle live in Japan. They always come and bring me and her candy. They are like little chewy candies with thin, clear rice paper. They are lemon flavoured and really good ^^. And the awesome thing is, is that you eat them with the wrapper on! They are awesome tasting, I think you should all try them. Hm..I think I'll go eat some now.

mmmm, pocky :3 my brother introduced me to that last summer when he went to Japan. I've tried other Japanese candies/snacks, but I will always love pocky the most. My favorite flavors are the strawberry and chocolate, I've been trying to find the peach ones but with no luck. I usually get mine from the asian market near me, at least since my brother is mean and never sends me any of the good flavors. about two years ago I got almost the grade to lave pocky during a cultural diversity project. not one crum was left.

I have only tried one kind of Japanese candy.
I got it from this guy at my school. It is like a tan color and it's a rectangle shape about as big as a piece of paper folded 6 times. When you eat it, it looks like a plastic cover is still on it. *You eat the thing that looks plastic* I like them, but the beginning taste is not what I was looking for.
I've heard there are Japanese pop rocks. I hope there are, I love them :)
But that's really the only Japanese candy I've tried. Sadly I forgot what it was called.

Haha, gotta love PA.

Pocky seems to be everyone's perennial favorite.... I like it, but I don't think it's amazing enough to warrant any kind of addiction.

Since my mom's Korean, we usually have more Korean candy than Japanese sitting around the house.

I.. Love.. Soda Candy.. They.. Is ... Teh.... God.... *dies*

Soda Candy is the best candy in the world.. They're hard to find, because in most Japan Towns and China towns, if oyu ask for Soda Candy, they'll bring you to the soda corner. I found some though, and I'm addicted now. They're mostly made by Kusagai, the company that makes Ramune, a great drink.. Anyway, I also like Ju-C thingies.. They come in little tubes.. Also, my 2nd favorite is those Mushroom shaped candies.. So good.

Great thread! We all love the asian/japanese candy...I think Pocky wins out as the big favorite though. Mmm...pockieh.

I also got these delcious Strawberry Gummies out in California. They're made by Kasugai, and they're oh so good. Here's what it says on the package:

Kasugai's strawberry gummy, made from fresh strawberry juice, is a very delicious gummy. Please have a fun time with this strawberry gummy.

XD Does anyone else besides me find that hilarious?

And at the bottom it says: Strawberry Gummy: Fresh and Juicy!

And yes, I keep packages...they're intresting. XP

Mmm Japanese candy. I like the Meiji caramels the best.
Last year I had a Labo student stay over for a month, and he brought LOTS of candy. I had some strawberry Pocky (mmm) and some mint chocolate Pocky (meh), Japanese lollipops (don't eat the pineapple ones), and various flavors of gum.
Oh, and there were these koala candies that were like wafers, with chocolate inside.
(And even though it's not candy, he brought snack crackers that tasted like seafood 0_o).
