First, a story recap:

Hundreds of years ago, there were stories about The Aegis, a mysterious device of some kind hidden somewhere in the Arctic. Many tried to find it, but none suceeded. In time, story became legend. Eventually, even the legend faded, and The Aegis was forgotten. Until someone found it.

He had left with another on a journy to the Arctic. When he returned, he told of a strange device that creates gateways to other worlds. He said that he and his partner had gone to one of these worlds, and that his partner decided to stay. He didn't remember why. He would have been locked up in the nuthouse except for two things, two pieces of evedence. The first was that he had several strange spherical artifacts, and the second was that he remembered nothing about himself-not even his name-or anything that happened before the journey.

Only a few believed his story. To each of them, he gave one of the artifacts, saying that he was told to deliver them to the ones who believed him. The next morning, he was found dead.

The ones how believed his story know what they have to do. They must find The Aegis and use it. They have been called to it, and they know. For they came to our world through it. They are from the world the man went to and they are guardians of their true home. They seek out disturbances and stop them before they can cause problems. But they were forced to leave when they discovered that the world's ruler was at the source of a disturbance and eliminated him. Now, they have been called back, and they know that, no matter what the danger, they must respond.

(Feuer is walking across the Arctic, following a pull he is feeling. He knows that it is the pull of the Aegis. As he walks, he wonders what he and the other guardians will face after they use The Aegis to pass through to their home world, knowing only that it is essential for them to stop it)

Feuer: (Thinking) I hope the others can get here. I doubt any of them have saved a boat-owner?s life. (He stops walking, and sits down by what looks like a large pile of snow) (Still thinking) Well, I?m here. I hope the others hurry up. we don?t have any time to waste.

OOC: When you post your intros, have your characters get to where Feuer is.

He looekd out through the visor of his thermal helmet. How cold it was. Snow whipped across the barren desert tickling the few sparce plants that dared sprout in this wasteland. Nothing did he spy. Nothing did he hear, save the howling of the wind. The snow masked everything, diminishing the sound to nearly nothing. It was almost remeniscant of the Sahara.

Malheleco- "Close..." He felt the pull of the gate. It wrapped a hand around his mind and pulled. The sphere in his pocket grew warmer with every step. He clasped his hands around it and squeezed, thankful for the warmth. Malheleco scaled a particularly large snow-dune and looked in the direction that the unseen force drew him in. The sphere in his pocket gave a sudden jump as his eyes landed on a figure sitting in the snow. He smiled, feeling relieved. At least this part of the journy was over.

A girl walked through the snow and ice of the arctic. She wasn't grasping herself for warmth. Some people would be amazed at how she did it but in fact she wasn't even cold, even though it seemed she was wearing a jacket.

She looked left and right through whiteness. It was hard to see with a Snow Storm blowing close to her, blinding her vision. She pulled the hood up to keep the snow out of her chocolate brown hair and grabbed her silver, reflective, custom made sunglasses and put them over her emerald eyes to protect her eyes from the snow. But the sunglasses also had a heat sensing radar and other things. In her vision she could see lots of dark blue, meaning the ice and snow. Then she saw 2 heat sources in the distance and a pull told her to go that way.

The girl continued to walk along the ice like it was nothing and soon she arrived. There were 2 men.One was tall and he was standing and she couldn't tell the height of the other because he was sitting on what seemed to be a snow pile.

"Hi!I'm Mizu!!"she said happily.
"Hello.I'm Feuer"the boy on the pile of snow said.
The last boy looked at her and said."Malheleco"
"Great!Nice to meet you Feuer and Malheleco."

Mizu sat on a small pile of snow next to her.

"Isn't there anyone else here?"she asked.

Feuer shook his head in a negative.Mizu looked around and took off her backpack and opened it.She brought out an ocarina.[Imagine the Ocarina of Time]She placed her fingers in the correct positions and brought the mouthpiece up and blew into it,moving her fingers gently.A beautiful melody came forth and Mizu continued to play to pass the time. She'd play different tunes. Some fast, some slow. Some happy, some sad.It was good to pass time though while waiting for others to arrive.

Malheleco- "Play one more note and I will personally rip that instrument from your hands and destroy it. Music does not sooth my soul, if such a thing exists." He stood and walked a good distance from the others. A few mumbles drifted toward him, but nothing he could, or cared to, make out. Hopefully the others wouldn't be as 'chipper' or musically inclined as the recently arrived.

He took the sphere out of his pocket and began shifting it from hand to hand. Such a thing it was, yet he knew so little about it. Able to draw him to a place such as this in one of the most deadly wastlands in the world. Amazing. And what is the actual purpose of this small, round, black ball? A guide? A passport? A key? Perhaps none... Or all. He pocketed the sphere again and sat down.

He made a slight motion with his hands. A kind of black light pushed snow around his upper body, making a kind of reclining snow bank. He layed back and closed his eyes. It was going to be a while.

Mizu turned to glare at Malheleco. She muttered some words and encased herself in a bubble.Feuer poked it but it didn't pop.It was hard. She put the mouthpiece to her lips again and continued her song.It was a shield but to annoy Malheleco she didn't make it sound proof even though she could. But of course she made it sound proof for her so she couldn't hear anything outside. She closed her eyes and blew.Malheleco turned to her.He was angry. He tried to fire some blasts at her. They were quite weak since it was day.Mizu just changed a tune.It was a magical song. The bubble shield glowed and the blast bounced off and back towards Malheleco, then she changed back to her original song. She opened one eye and smirked towards the now angry man,but not once stopping her song. She kept her gaze on the man and he was moving his mouth but of course she didn't hear it.She suspected they were curses.Just to annoy him a bit further she played a song that got into anyone's skin.It used the highest notes playable that were very high pitched. It rung out of the bubble and around the deserted area.Feuer just pulled out some ear plugs from somewhere and plugged them in his ears.Malheleco wasn't as handy. He clapped his hands over his ears and stomped towards the girl in the bubble. He knocked on it but it was like the hardest material ever.He blasted at it and tried everything to try to get to her.Mizu laughed on the inside but continued her song.

From then she knew herself and Malheleco wouldn't be good friends. But it wasn't exactly her fault. He had threatened her about her music, that she cared for deeply.Especially since the ocarina she plays and carries everywhere belonged to her deceased older sister.

When she was younger Mizu would love to listen to her older sister play her beautiful tunes on the ocarina. She always said that one day she would give it to her and she even taught her how to play. When she was killed Mizu was torn and she got her sister's ocarina which she now carries everywhere.

A tear rolled down her cheek as she thought back on the memory.

'I miss you so much Hime.'she thought in her head.
'I hope others come soon...'

OOC: Two things, Ohkami. First, these people all know each other(They always work togeather). Second, they don't have any family(I'll explain why later on in the story). However, if you want Mizu to have developed relationships durring her time on Earth, that's okay.

---------------------------------

Feuer: Can't you two ever get along?

Malheleco: Not when she plays that thing.

Feuer: Haven't you learned by now that we can't fight each other? You two can work togeather fine when we're in danger, so why can't you get along when we're not in any danger?

Malheleco: Because she doesn't play the da** instrument when we're in danger.

Feuer: Deal with it. We can't be fighting each other ever. Success depends on how well we can work togeather.

Malheleco: As long as she doesn't play that thing when we have to work togeather, I'm fine.

Feuer: (Sighs, then shakes his head) (Pause) I hope the others get here soon. I have a feeling that this is urgent.

Himani trudged through the snow. She always enjoyed seeing the Arctic; she had been many times before. But this time, the journey had been hard, and she had no patience for the blizzard-level snow around her. She sighed, then pulled a small silver charm out from under her dress. It was cold, and she used that to anchor herself as she started to sing. It was a slow, sad tune, and not one she enjoyed at all. But slowly the ice around her decreased, and the visibility improved. Rubbing her bare arms that bothered her, not from the cold, but a feeling she couldn't shake, she spotted the rendezvous site. She stopped singing and the snow abruptly stopped in midair, the whirled around her to fill the void. This time, it let her through without any further effort, and she continued her walk, with the barest trace of a smile on her lips, as she raced to meet her companions.

Sorry this is a tad late, kids. I've been studying for more of my stupid exams.. what's the point of school anyway? Education is so over-rated. Meh.

As she tredged across the frozen landscape, Aarde thought on her journey. What was in store for them, she knew not, but it had been sometime since she'd last seen her comrades. The weather conditions had been more to her liking, she mused lightly, but the icy winds and endless snow didn't actually seem to bother her as much as it should. She was sure her sphere had something to do with it. Just as it was drawing her towards this barren place, it was fueling her with warmth and energy; all of which she would need soon enough.

She thought briefly of the ship she had sailed over on. It wasn't easy to get passage on any ship this time of year, but her remarkable ability with herbs and other sorts of medicine had won her the right to sail with the crew of the Indigo. They set out from port and sailed for a week under fair skys and promising winds, before the first hint of a storm threatened on the horizon. Just an hour later, the torrentual rains came upon them and the ocean was intolerable. The crew was in a state of panic; many were new, having barely attained their sea-legs, and could hardly work the riggings, let alone remember to breathe. Against the wishes of the captain, who valued her neck too much to allow her onto the deck, Aarde left the safety of the cabins and emerged to see one of the most savage tempests she'd ever laid eyes on.

And Aarde had seen a great many things.

However, she remained strangely calm, as all the sailors had remarked later on, and she walked with such peace and dignity that those around her lost all focus on the raging storm. Instead, their eyes followed her as she went from man to man, smiling reassuringly and murmuring a few soft words before moving on to the next. Every man she touched suddenly felt the horror of the storm slip away and all that was left was a strange, inner contentment. Though the storm raged on about them, and though they could still hear and feel it, they were no longer afraid. She returned underground, soaked to the bone and perfectly serene, albeit a bit exhausted, but serene nevertheless. When the morning came, the sun slowly broke through the ugly clouds and the crew was overjoyed; they celebrated that day, and hailed Aarde as a heroine - their own Goddess of Victory. She just smiled politely and went about her duties.

As it came to be, when they dropped her off at the docks, where she would then take a smaller boat to the icy coast, the crew of the Indigo gave her something to keep, as a sort of memoir of the long journey. It was a small, silver ring, with the words pace della mente, or, peace of mind.

She walked now through the snow, spying a small campfire on the horizon; at last, she would reach her old friends. Though it had been quite some time since they'd been together last. What sort of changes would she find? How had they been living their lives since their last reunion? And more importantly, what duties lay ahead of them, now that the spheres were calling again? Fixing her scarf, she reached Malheleco first, who had - like always - detached himself from the crowd.

Though her skin was pale, her cheeks and nose red with the cold, her eyes were still warm and alive and when she smiled, the weather suddenly didn't seem quite so terrible. "Darkness, are you annoyed already?" Her voice was quietly amused, and still retained that comfortable, serene feeling that it held all those years ago.

When Aarde and Himani arrived Mizu looked at them in a greeting and continued to play until she finished the song.

"Finally she stopped the infernal racket!"Malheleco said angrily.

Mizu got out of the bubble and stretched her legs from sitting down for so long.

"Hi guys."
"Don't you and Malheleco ever get along?"Aarde asked shaking her head.

Mizu shrugged. She looked at Feuer. He looked tense.Mizu walked over.

"Feuer,What's wrong?"
"I feel like this problem is urgent."
"Do you know anything?"Mizu asked him.

Feuer: Not yet. I think these spheres have something to do with it, but I'm not sure. Of course, we're not going to learn anything until we cross over.

(Feuer concentrates, and the pile of snow melts, revealing an entrance to an underground passageway. He leads the others into it. The passageway is lit by an unknown source, but aside from that, looks like what one would expect from an underground passageway. Eventually, the five of them come to a junction. On the wall between the two paths is a white circle)

Himani: Which way do we go?

Feuer: This is just like the path on the other side. Don't you remember? (Himani shakes her head) Well, there will be a total of four junctions. One of you will need to determine which way to go at each of them. Who is indicated by the color of the circle between the two paths. For this one, it's you, Himani.

Himani: Why don't you have one?

Feuer: I did my part already. I revealed the entrance. Anyways, you need to concentrate. You should feel a pull toward one of the paths. Choose that one. (Pause) I don't know how the Messenger and his companion managed to get to The Aegis, unless... (he shakes his head) no.

Aarde: What?

Feuer: Nothing. Himani, which way do we go?

-----------------------------------

OOC: Three things. One, it doesn't matter which way you choose when it's your character's turn. Two, the colors that indicate which character chooses are the same as the sphere colors(remember that Feuer does not determine a direction). And three, the Messenger is the person who found the Aegis and returned with the spheres.

Himani sighed, putting a hand to her head delicately. So now I have to be the leader. Lovely. She shook her head, then decided that there was no use dwelling in self-pity. She once again pulled out the small silver charm. She didn't need it, but made her job a great deal easier. She held it tightly and started to humm softly. A single note began to resonate through the small cave, touching each person. The sound travelled down each branch of the passages, rumbling slightly, engulfing the company in a silvery white mist that wasn't visible to the physical senses, but could only be observed through the mind's eye. Himani's world was blanketed in her aura, and once the process was complete, she could start to sort out the energies at work. It was possible to skip this time-consuming step, but Himani felt no reason to rush, and lose precious energy. Whoever was calling them would want them to take the time to do this right. Of course, that was no reason to procrastinate. Himani flew through the feelings of the tunnel in her head, until she reached her conclusion. She slowly lowered her note, until the cavern fell quiet. Himani silently pointed to a passageway, uncomfortable from the four pairs of eyes staring at her. "It's that way, alright? Now let's just go." She started to walk briskly, trying to avoid the gaze of her companions. It wasn't as if she had done anything great, just what was necessary, after all.

OOC: Nice post SF. :)

Malheleco- "Smells... New..." Feuer stared at him strangely, but kept walking down the pathway.

Feuer- "What?" Realizing he was still wearing his thermal gear, and that the cavern was quite warm, he began taking them off while continuing to walk. First his helmet (the visor had long since slid into it's compartment withing the helemt), then his chest gear and gloves. He kept his black thermal pants on, but removed the first, heat-keep layre. He strode through the cave, a great deal more comfortable, in a black button-up shirt and black cargo pants.

Malheleco- "New. It's smells new... Alive maybe... But more than just alive. I can sence the energy. Concentrait, all of you." Mizu gave him a reproachful look as the group stopped, but shut her eyes anyway. "It's not in the air... It's in the ground."

Aarde- "My god... It does smell new..." Malheleco nodded.

Malheleco- "It's different than before. I remember little, but this place always felt and smelled old, in my memory. Somethings... Not quite right." The small group of outlanders came to the second of the four forks in the road.

Himani- "I'm going to guess this is yours, Malheleco." He nodded grimly, a slight sensation of anxiety prickling the hair on his neck.

Malheleco- "So it is..." There was a ring of black marble placed in the ground, and continuing around the entire entrance, of the tunnel. The tunnel on the other side of the ring could not be seen. There seemed to be some kind of oily black liquid blocking the way. It looked like a single pane of black glass had been placed in the way of both paths. Malheleco had seen this but once before. It had been in the Temple of Faultz, back in their world. It was used to keep people out. And it did it's job very well.

Mizu- "Anytime you're ready..." He glared at her momentarily and walked up to the lefthand path. Slowly he inserted his right hand into the Dark Barrier. The color began to drain rapidly from his arm. His veins stood out all over. Malheleco withdrew his arm with a strenuous jerk of his arm. He collapsed on one knee breathing extremely hard and rubbing his completely white arm. The little color he originally had returned. Feuer gave him a slightly troubled look.

Feuer- "Are you ok?" He nodded and walked over to the other barrier and thrust his right arm in again. It drained of color, again, and Malheleco's face contorted in pain. He screamed as the field crawled up his arm and covered his body. The screams rose to an unimaginable octave as it seeped it's way into his skin, sinking into his pores and entering his very essence. Images flashed before his eyes.

A building in flames, obviously one of his worlds buildings. It crumbled underneath the blood red flames. Necromancer flames...
FLASH
A man being beheadded. His flace was blurred, not by a hood or hair, but simply blurred. Almost as if something didn't want him to see the face of the soon to be purgatorial man.
FLASH
A flower. Perhaps a daisy, one of the few flowers native to both worlds. But it was black...

Malheleco's scream died out suddenly and he collapsed from his standing convulsion. The group walked cautiously toward him, fear coating them like fresh paint. His breathing was shallow and raspy. His body twitched at odd places and in odd angles.

Mizu- "Malheleco?" His eyes sprung open suddenly. Where there used to be relartively normal eyes with simply pure black iris', there now was nothing but black. A small white iris surfaced before their fearful stares. It grew to a normal size. A small black pupil popped into existance. He blinked once, twice. Very suddenly he stood. Everyone took a step back, starteled from the sudden movement.

Himani- "Your, eyes... Are you ok?" Malheleco nodded and smiled, a rare thing.

Malheleco- "I've been endowed with 'second sight'. Tis Necromancer level magic. I can see where the living, and dead have recently been." He glanced around. "And this place has been crawling with living things, extremely recently. I suggest we hurry. It's this way." He began walking down the righthand path. The group, after a rather odd moment, followed. As soon as Malheleco had his back to them, his smile dissapeared. Something had entered his mind along with his new powers. Something that felt awfully familiar... But he couldn't put his finger on it... As long as it was under control, it wasn't a problem.

Mizu looked at the two passages left. She looked from one to the other. There was a mixture of auras and magics that blurred her inner vision. Then she got an idea from what Himani had done. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her ocarina.Behind her she heard Malheleco groan.

Mizu placed her fingers carefully over the holes and raised it to her lips, blowing into it gently.A soft melody played and soon she changed it into a mystical song that her "sister" had taught her for dividing magics if she was searching for one in particular.

Her inner vision became clearer as the magics parted into strands of colour.Mizu searched for a blue trail and found it.She ended the song and pointed to one of the passages.

"It's this way."she said walking forward.

Whoo! Goin' to see Ghostbusters, for FREE!! Yeehah!! *runs around joyfully before slipping and falling backwards, arms flailing wildly*

When she had finally found her comrades, camped out around the small fire above ground, Aarde had been a bit concerned - things were different. She didn't expect anything less, mind you, and change isn't necessarily bad. But starting their journey with a fresh argument wasn't exaclty what Aarde had in mind, and she had the feeling the others weren't too keen about it either. For now, however, she had other things to think on - like the next circle. It would be her turn to decipher the mysteries of the tunnel and lead them out of the dark, underground caverns. She remained, as always, the picture of calm, except maybe for her hands, fidgeting constantly with her ring.

It seemed as though mere minutes had passed by and the tunnel they walked through began to widen again, a hint towards another fork in their travels. Before long the small group had indeed reached the two passages, and Feuer then turned his head towards Aarde, his eyes patient. "You're up."

She smiled, bowing her head in acknowledgement, before approaching the green circle of moss that had grown between the two passage ways. Similar to some of the others, both ways were sealed with barriers. In this case, black briar patches had grown up the sides and completely closed off the tunnels, and their thick thorns made it impossible to get through. Had they put a blade to it, they would have found it useless against the strange, dark plant.

Slipping off her shoes, she walked with barefeet to the middle of the circle, her back to the rest of them, and pushed her palms together, eyes closed in concentration. Small flowers began to grow out of the ground around her, but only within the circle of moss. Without warning, however, the tunnel soon filled with wind and spiraled around her lithe form, catching her hair and sending it dancing about her as she chanted softly, her voice barely a whisper, her words ancient.

The wind was a brief respite from the warmth they found below ground, and the others found themselves relaxing just a tad. Though each split path meant that they were that much closer to reaching their goal... to reaching the other side, and even with the gentle presence of the cool wind, anxiousness was beginning to set in.

The chanting stopped abruptly as Aarde opened her eyes, which now glowed an eeire green that the others could not see. She reached in her heavy coat and produced a small, brown leather back. From it she took a hand-full of what appeared to be sand - the others, however, knew better. Turning towards the path towards the left, she blew the sand off her hand and into the thorns, and repeated the process with the passage on the right. For a split second, nothing happened. But then flowers began to grow out of the thorns on the first tunnel, blooming quickly and brilliantly as they spread like mad over the briar patch. Soon the entire thing was covered in wildly colored flowers.

"How beautiful," Himani remarked quietly, and Mizu seemed to agree. Aarde glanced at them briefly, smiling secretively, before approaching the wall of flowers. She brought two fingers to her lips, kissing them softly before reaching out and touching the velvety petals before her. As soon as her slender fingers touched the flowers they fell apart, pieces floating like feathers to the ground, revealing an open passage ahead.

Bowing her head once again, she smiled as she went to pick up her shoes, "I believe the left path would serve us well."

OOC: Why thanks, Knight! You post quite nicely too.

Himani watched the others choose the paths; each time the energy in the tunnels seemed to be stronger, as well as more confusing. It was hard work just to decipher the remains of energy trails. Once Aarde had lead them through the fourth set of tunnels, the pull was extremely strong, as was the heat. While Himani wasn't bothered at all by cold temparatures, heat was another matter altogether, and she was starting to feel slightly ill. Looking around, she could see that the others were starting to feel uneasy due to the heat. Only Feuer seemed unaffected. She pulled her charm out again. I really hate doing this needlessly, but I seem to have no choice. Oh well. She closed her eyes and hummed again, although quieter, so no one could hear her. They could sense magic being worked though, and turned to her in alarm. The cold in her charm ran through her hands, and the feeling work its way into her mind. Carefully, she managed to cool a small section of air around them, so that it was comfortable. Opening her eyes, Himani found that Mizu, Malheleco, and Aarde were looking at her with thanks. She quickly turned her head, and asked "So does anyone know what's supposed to happen when we get out of these tunnels?" "No, we don't. And thank you, Himani." a voice, probably Mizu's, answered. Himanistarted walking again, hoping to distance herself from her compnions so that she could sort through her thoughts. Why? Why is it that these people bring my memories of him back to me? Why, when I only wish to forget him? When all he wanted was to forget me? Oh Suraj, please, either help me, or... or just leave me alone!

Wow, it's my 100th post! Umm, that is a good thing, right? Well, go me!

Feuer: We'll work on figuring out what we need to do once we cross over. For now, we need to focus on crossing over. (They enter a large chamber. The chamber is featureless except for a device in the middle: The Aegis. It is a large cylinder(sp?) that extends from the floor of the chamber to the ceiling. At eye level are five circles, the same colors as the spheres, evenly spaced around it) For those who don't remember what to do, find your color and put your hand on it. (They all do so. After a few seconds, the cylinder starts to glow. There is a bright flash, and the cylinder returns to its dormant state) Welcome home.

Malheleco- "Indeed..." He scanned the surrounding area with his newly aquired power. Where in the other world, the floors had showed traces of living things scampering around, this place showed a large amount of death. "Be on your gaurd. If we didn't get attack on earth, we will definitly be attacked here." The four other gave hm a slightly puzzed/fearful look.

Feuer- "How many?" Malheleco shook his head slowly.

Malheleco- "I can't tell. It's either too many to count, or I can't yet utilize the full potential of this ability..." Feuer nodded and motioned for everyone to continue forwards. Malheeco hung back a bit, listening to the whispers in his mind and shooting looks behind them. He did know one thing. It was night on this world. And his powers itched to be used.

Aarde slowly removed her hand from the green sphere, glancing around the dim chamber. Her eyes weren't much use here, but Malheleco had more than enough power to compensate for all of them. Instead, she focused more on the power she felt creeping through her veins, and the strange feel of the earth under her feet. They were definitely in another world; back home. Now that she was here, she could remember more of it. But there was so much decay... she didn't remember that.

She turned her eyes towards Malheleco as he spoke, watching his eyes carefully. She did the same to Himani, then Mizu, and then finally Feuer, before smiling slightly. Yes, they were most definitely back home - even if the earth below her wasn't enough of a sign, the sudden spark in everyone's eyes was.

Pulling her hair into a loose ponytail, she followed after Feuer as everyone began moving again. Her coat hung heavy on her shoulders, but the closer they got to the surface, the less she felt it, and the more she felt the adrenaline pumping through her body. Yes, this was most definitely her home, alright. She must have smiled at that because Mizu winked at her. Bowing her head in acknowledgement, Aarde just returned the look. Despite the not-so-good things that waited for them, Aarde thought it was good to be home.

Feuer: (Thinking) i didn't expect the call to come so soon. Normally it's a decade or two between disturbances, but this one's just a couple years after the last one. There are many who will recognize us, and some will undoubtably be angry with us for what we did. i just hope they don't try to do anything to us. we don't have time to waste fighting them off. (Out loud) All right. Getting out is easy. Just take the path that isn't by a colored circle. Let's move.
