Fire Emblem

In case some of you don't know, Fire Emblem is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises over in Japan. Unfortunately not one Fire Emblem game has made it to the US. Until now, soon Fire Emblem will be released for the GBA.

This is by no means news, it's been known for quite a while. But I still felt that it deserved a topic. ^_^

From what I've heard your task in the game will be to protect a young girl from bandits and whatnot. Throughout the game more and more people will join your party and help out with the adventure. What's possibly the coolest tid-bit I've read is that many story elements will take place in battle. Meaning the story can be altered by your party, which also mean there will probably be quite a bit of replayability.

Another thing that will affect that battle system is terrain. Each differen't type of terrain will hold specific advantages. When I first heard this I wasn't too thrilled, but I've grown into it.

Personally, I can't wait for it. I'll be picking it up as soon as possible. ^_^

I'm looking forward to it. A safe comparison would be to call this the fantasy version of Advance Wars (although with more story). I don't know that the GBA versions are looked back on as fondly as the older versions by the Japanese fans... but I'll take what I can get.

The bonus disc for Mario Kart has some downloadable extras for this game... Good thing I'll be getting both :D

I think this comes out in November... the 15th or something?

Hmm, I'm not sure on the release date but I believe that's pretty close. I haven't checked on this game in a while.

Anyway, I've been looking forward to this for the longest time, ever since I read about the first Fire Emblem games a few years ago (I don't import, which is why I don't already have them). The battle system is looking pretty decent (considering how old the damn thing is) and the graphics look sharp.

Yet another game I want to get my hands on. Why, oh why, must I be as cheap as I am?

Hehe...

My brother is soo obessed with this game. I think that he recently beat FE 4 or 5. Which ever it was it took him a loong time to get through the game. To me, it looks pretty hard. Aside from that, I loove the the story--especially the ones the flow from one game to the next. I think that there are 2 out the series that kinda diverge from the main story. My favorite character is Celice--Inheritor of Light. I don't think he's in the newest game to be released. My bro told me that the new game will feature 2 characters from the game he recently beat. I can't seem to remember their names now, but they're pretty cool too.

I can only really say that while I want to play this game (and actually buy it), I may have very limited funds by the time it rolls around. Apart from school expenses, I'm hoping to purchase both Animal Crossing and F-Zero GX this month. That, plus the fact that I recently bought Command & Conquer: Generals, means that my wallet will be hit very hard.

Oh well. We'll see how it goes. The game looks interesting and it's a series that I'd like to explore for myself.

Snoochie Boochies!

Well, Fire Emblem is coming out on Monday according to GameStop. To top it off I actually have enough money, well kind of. I have $27 but I'll trade Tekken 4 in (it's worth $6.50). The main problem for me will be time, between school, the internet, friends, and the countless games I've been buying lately/need to finish. Viewtiful Joe, Animal Crossing, Soul Calibur II, ect. I don't think I'll be able to get more than an hour in a day, if that.

Beh, so many games, so little money/time.

Nintendo always drives me nuts with those dates. They always give companies the Monday as the date of release. It's also the date they advertise as the release date. However, it is really their shipping date... and 95% of the country's stores won't even get the game until Tuesday as it is.

Happened to me with ED, SMS, MP, SSB:M and Pikmin when they all first came out. I just stick with Tuesdays now lol

Wow... I don't post here often, but what the dizzle...

I just bought the new GBA game Fire Elblem and it roxorz. It's a strategic game and it gets harder as you progress, of course, but it takes brains to over come the obstacles (so yeah, I'm SOL). It's also nifty because it's like real life battles because if you lose a fighter, you've lost them the whole game (well, actually, they come back each PART of the game, but that's different), so make sure you don't lose one.

But I seem to be the only one that bought it around where I live. Not one person knows about it O.o

What the meh?!

My friend and I exchange games frequently, and last week he let me borrow Fire Emblem (In exchange for Star Wars Rogue Squadron II) for an indefinite amount of time. And, I must say, on my list of favorite Game Boy Advance games, Fire Emblem is right up there with Golden Sun.

I don't have much history with the genre of strategy. I got Advance Wars last Christmas, and that game seemed to lack the kind of plot I like.. Ever since that game, I have not at all looked at any strategy game and said "Wow, that looks like a good game."

However, ever since I bought Super Smash Bros. Melee I've always wondered what Fire Emblem games, with characters like Marth and Roy, are like. And finally I know what Fire Emblem really is.

The plot is what mostly draws me to this game. The many characters that are intertwined, the different locations, and the script.. It's all well-done. Plus the fight animations really are fast-paced and interest me more than animations from most other GBA ones, for some odd reason. They're just well-done, I suppose.

I've had the game for about a week, and I am on chapter nineteen.. I have not accepted a side-quest, but I have received every character you can use that is not available only through side-quest. Lucius, Florina and Erk have all been lost.

Quite honestly, I am very impressed with Fire Emblem, and I would love to see more of the series here in the United States.. Also, I hear that there was an anime about this series as well, though it wasn't exactly the greatest show ever.

Does anybody know how many chapters the game has, excluding side-quests? I shall be dismayed if it stops before thirty.
When you leave Lyn in the game, I thought it stopped at 10 chapters. I was like "What the dizzle? That it?" but I was a proud papa when I saw it continued with Eliwood.
I haven't completed it yet, but I'm well into chapter 16 or so...
The first part of the game(with Lyn) is just the tutorial. O_o...that's one long tutorial...
Not sure if that should be in spoiler tags, but anything to keep from angering the great Nintendo Mod...

I've found that Fire Emblem is much like a mix between Advance Wars and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, or any swords/magic games. It plays like AW and the battles show the same way, in the split-screen type thing. Though I must say, the animations are awesome. I also like how critical hits have an entirely different animation than the regular attacks. Probably my favorite part of the game, those animations...

Be prepared for some long chapters. They don't take quite as long as the ones in FFTA or Tactics Ogre, but some are pretty lengthy, since your units move, then the enemy units move, and so on...it doesn't help that on most chapters the enemy has at least twice as many units as you do. The most units you can ever use (though it varies from chapter to chapter) is sixteen, I think. It takes a lot of effort to split all your experience between all the units possible to get.

You don't even have to find all the available characters. There are some you can get only if you unlock a side quest, or talk to them with certain characters on the battlefield. It might be difficult to play through the game with only the units that you get automatically.

There's my little post. I got the game on my birthday (Nov. 13) so I've had it for a couple weeks. I beat it,
but there's plenty to do afterwards...
In answer to Sennen's question, I believe there are
31 chapters, excluding side quests, which there are seven or eight of. Of course, this is only in Lyn and Eliwood's campaign. After you beat Eliwood's campaign, you can play through as Hector, with a few more missions and side quests.
Well, I finally decided to buy Fire Emblem. At first I was considering Advance Wars 2 but I wanted something with a little more plot. I'm only in the opening chapters (enduring tutorials), but I can say that the map visuals are just barely adequate, but the battle animations are as pleasing as I've read. So they make up for it nicely. I'm also fond of the advantages the landscapes provide and how once you lose your troops they remain gone. The impressions I've read indicate that the players each infused with their own distinct personality so the repercussions of carelessly losing troops on the battlefield should hold a lot of weight.

Right now my only question is this: Does the scripting improve later? Right now the narrative is so cliché and predictable it's not even funny. The dialogue is simplified as if it's intended for children. Other than that I'm really impressed. It's a nice alternative to Superstar Saga for me.

I don't really know how far you are in the game. The whole opening chapter is basically just a tutorial and I found that a lot of what was presented in it was a bit more simple than later in the game. The characters are just getting to know eachother, so I don't expect deep conversations... but I would say it improves.

The basic enemies, however, rarely say much that's all that exciting. Some of the more major enemies are another story though.

I always preferred the Breath of Fire series as opposed to Fire Emblem, well, the first two anyway...

Even though the two games rival each other in similar ways, I think BofF has a tad bit more to offer.

While Fire Emblem isn't your everyday RPG, it models a good sense of strategic and tactical influence, plus life span. On the other hand, BofF shows off how cunning a typical RPG can be, and emphasises on teamwork amongst your characters more than anything else, as each part member pursues a different ability or purpose on the world map. It reminds you of the need to have a fully-fledged squad.

Regardless, it's still a good game, no major flaws... 'cept the dialogue. :D

I have the game. I swear that I've been playing it for three months. I got to the Final Chapter but started over because my lords were too weak to beat the dragon. Nergal was no problem though!

Has anyone beet this game yet? It would probably be very easy to beat but I'm trying not to lose a single character. It's really annoying when you're just about to beat the dumb level and you start over again.

I think the game has a really good storyline and it takes a while to beat so I think that it would be a good buy for anyone questioning whether to buy it or not. I still can't beat Chapter 26!

Fire Emblem, is, IMO, one of the better games out there for the GBA right now. Some of the chapters are very tough, but I've been able to avoid losing a single character. After playing through Hector's Story, I easily took on everyone in Light. Hector with Arnads, Oswin with Rex Hasta, LeGault (upgraded to assassin) with the Regal Blade, Guy and Karel (A support, both with Killing Edges). They took down each of the morphs, Nergal, and finally the dragon. I didn't use Athos at all. He's mainly there if you fall into the Marcus trap (aka, using Marcus...Marcus sucks up exp which is better used by other characters). Also, Canas (the shaman), when using Luna, always hits the dragon for around 29 damage and has a chance to critical with it (11% chance). I managed to get one, so the battle went extremely easily.

The Dialogue gets significantly better as the game progresses, especially in the support conversations, and in some of the secret side quests (such as those in Hector's story, revealing the true connection between Nergal and the twins, as well as who Brammimond really is, among other things. As for the support conversations, try getting Canas and Renault together. The dialogue is easily the best in the game, and reveals a major plot element.

I've been playing Fire Emblem a LONG time....I'm still addicted to it. If anyone needs help, I'd be glad to offer assistance.
