Desbreko
As anyone planning on getting Final Fantasy XI should know, the game comes out for the PC on October 28, 2003 -- only a week away. And, if you've read up on the game, you'll know the system behind creating characters on a specific server. That is, the World Pass system. What I'm asking for in this thread is people that are planning on purchasing the game when it first comes out to post in this thread. I've written a thread for sharing World Passes, organizing parties and alliances, and other FFXI related stuff, but what I'd really like to include is an "Official OB World Pass." That is, a World Pass that members of OtakuBoards can use to create a character on the same server as all the other OB members who play FFXI. Now, the reason I want people who are planning on getting FFXI to post in here, is to apply for the privilage of providing the Official OB World Pass. Normally I'd just supply it myself, but unfortunately, I won't be able to get FFXI for at least another few months. So, I need someone else to supply a World Pass for everyone to use. And that's basically it. If you're going to get FFXI and play it as soon as it's released, on October 28, and you'd like to supply the World Pass for OB, post in this thread. Your post should include reasons why you think you should get to supply the world pass. I'll judge who will get to supply the World Pass based on the reasons they supply and also the overall quality of the person's post, and then the "winner" will be posted in this thread on Oct. 27, the day before the game is released. The selected person should then PM with the World Pass as soon as they can, so that I can post the previously mentioned thread as soon as possible. The reason why I'm stressing that the person to supply the World Pass should get the World Pass to me as soon as possible is because, if other people want to play on the same server as everyone else from OB, they're going to have to use that World Pass. And they have to use the World Pass when they first create a character, or else they'll be stuck on a random server with no way to transfer. So if people want to all play on the same server, they're going to have to wait for the World Pass to be posted before they can start playing the game. I know I'm going to be extremely anxious to play FFXI when it's released, and I won't even have the ability to play it. I can imagine how much more aggrivating it would be to have the game sitting there, ready to be played, yet having to wait on someone else. So make sure you're going to be speedy about getting the World Pass to me if you apply. Finally, to go over this one more time, I'm looking for people to supply an Official OB World Pass. Anyone interested should be getting FFXI the day it's released, and should post in here with his or her application to supply the World Pass. People should post reasons why they should be able to supply the World Pass in their application. I will select the person to supply the World Pass on October 27, and I will post the result in this thread and also PM that member. That member should then purchase FFXI on October 28, start a character, and get a World Pass. He or she should then PM me with the World Pass, and I will then post a new thread, replacing this one, with that World Pass in it. Everyone that wants to start a character on the same server as other OB members should then use that World Pass when starting a character. If anyone has any questions, they should be PMed to me, not posted in this thread; only applications should be posted in this thread. Thank you for your help, and good luck.
Zidargh
I will edit this once I reach the actual country. As I am going to America this Thursday, I will be out there until the 2nd of November so I will try and get the game as soon as it comes out. However, I understand your anxious to play this game so I don't know if you'll be willing to wait for me. For the actual reasons of having the World Pass I do not know if that would be wise as I'd be back 5 days later which would completely act as a hinderance. All I hope is that Square Enix have sorted out the whole BETA thing that happened in Japan. I am very interested in joining up to the server but bear in mind, I read that there is a limit to the amount of parties, and I have a feeling that a World Pass is going to cost more. Unless I could load up the game on my friends computer, subscribe and then just take it home I suppose that'd be the best thing to do. Tell me what you think. (I did not place this in a PM as I needed a foundation for me to edit this. Delete it if you wish. But please tell me first so I can copy and paste it into a PM. ;))
Desbreko
Okay, just to clear a couple things up, you should know for sure that you're going to be able to play and get a World Pass the day that the game comes out. (Though I guess if no one can do that, I'll have to settle for the day after or something). And a World Pass isn't something you actually purchase from Square Enix; all it is is a password that you get from certain non-player characters in the game, which you can then tell to your friends. Or, in this case, you'd be writting the password down and sending it to me. As for the amount of parties and that, yes, there is a limit to the number of characters in a party. That number is 6, and alliances can be formed from a maximum of 3 parties. So everyone that joins up using the World Pass may not be able to play in the same party/alliance, but we can always have multiple alliances and still just work together if we want. And one of the things I'm going to be using the new thread for, that replaces this one once I get the World Pass, is keeping track of who's in what party, what parties are in what alliances, and all that.
Sephiroth
I have already ordered it online from www.ebgames.com so I should have it on Oct28. So you guessed it, I would like to provide the Official OB World Pass! Why should I be the one to supply the World Pass? That's simple enough, thank's to the difference in time zone's I'll be playing the game and already have a World Pass while all you guys are asleep, lol. Desbreko
If anyone has any questions, they should be PMed to me, not posted in this thread; only applications should be posted in this thread.
*sigh* ... Ah well, I suppose this thread'll be deleted soon enough, so I guess I'll just answer the questions. First off, I'd expect people to already know what a World Pass is if they're going to be supplying one... But basically, it's just a password that lets you create a character on the same server as the person that gave you the World Pass. You can go here for the details on how they work. Second, that's kind of the whole purpose of this thread and the thread that will be replacing this one. So that people who are getting FFXI can all play together on the same server, from using the same World Pass. If you're getting FFXI and you want to play together with other OB members, you'll need to wait for the World Pass to be posted before you create a character, so that you can use it and play on the same server.
Guest .h4ck
when you get the game, you make your own character you get a world pass, does it limit you to only playing on one server or can you still go around on other servers?
Desbreko
It doesn't matter whether you use a World Pass or not; either way, you can't switch which server your character is on. The only way to choose which server you're going to be playing on is by using a World Pass when you create a character. Once you start a character, you're stuck on that server.
Guest .h4ck
so it better be a good server basically, how big are they? i hear they hold couple hundred people from somewhere
Desbreko
I don't know how many characters a server can hold, but it has to be more than a couple hundred. There are only 30 servers, and one of them's a test server. Plus, everyone in Japan is already playing on them, so it's got to at least be in the range of thousands. And something has just come to my attention. Apparently, a World Pass can is only good for one week after it's been issued. And, even worse, each World Pass can only be used for the creation of one character. So, that kind of throws a wrench in the works of my plan. I had thought a World Pass could be used over and over again, but I guess not. So yeah, there's been a change of plans. Sephiroth, go ahead and get a World Pass after you start a character, and PM it to me. I've already got a basic plan on how to do this, for getting a World Pass for everyone that wants one, but I need to write it up and patch it into the thread that I've already written. If I could have someone get a new World Pass each week as they expire, or whenever one is used, that'd be the easiest, I think. Anyone interested? This would be so much easier if I were able to get the game when it comes out on the 28th, and not have to wait a few months. Then I could just get World Passes for the thread myself... I will make this work, though! The OtakuBoards FFXI clan will live! ^_^ Edit: Okay, a bit of good news. Turns out a World Pass can be used five times, not just once...so that'll make things a bit easier. I've also got the main thread all written and ready now, with a sort of chain system for the World Passes so that when a person uses one, they'll also get a new one and post it. I'm just waiting on Sephiroth to get FFXI and send me the first World Pass. Here's a link to the latest news on World Passes, by the way.
Zidargh
Right guys, I'm going to New York today and I will pop in Toys 'R' Us to purchase this masterpiece. I'll have to persuade my mother to pay monthly for me though but it's not that much money anyway. I will await your signal to sign-up and I will definitely buy this today. I think while we're here we can co-ordinate a party to use, for example, what races, job classes etc are we going to be. ALSO we need to make a meeting place so what do you think? I plan to take on the role of a combinating of a warrior or thief, so I can later unlock the ninja ability. As for ther race, I may be a Hume or an Elvaan, but a Hume certainly suits the warrior ability. And a simple request, someone please be the midget races of the Taru Taru, their so cute ^_^;.
Desbreko
Okay, I haven't heard back from Sephiroth yet, and according to the little message tracking thing, he hasn't even read my PM. So, after talking to Zidargh, who's getting FFXI today, I decided he should just go ahead and get a World Pass. If all goes well, he should be able to get one today, and then I'll be able to post it up in the main thread. Gah, this is turning out to be a lot more trouble than I thought it'd be. I hope it's worth it, and people actually use the World Passes to get on the same server. It'd kind of suck to have spent hours organizing all this and only have two or three people make use of it. :twitch:
Zidargh
Well I got the game for $54.97. No offense but I hate the US tax system, in England you really do know what money you need to spend. So after literally throwing money at the Gamestop clerk in Times Square, NY I got the game. 5 discs, it's a pretty heavy box but I'll get to work right away. By the way, the monthly fee is nearly $13 and you get the 'Rise of the Zilart' expansion inside. I recommend we stick without the expansion for now. I'll get to work now, ^_~. Right change of plan, DO install the expansion. I am finding great trouble getting this thing to work, it is so vague, oh well. I recommend you all have an idea of what display you want to configure the game.
Sephiroth
Sorry about the late reply to let you guys know what the hell's happening, but I already notified Desbreko about this yesterday. Basically thanks to me being an idiot and not paying an extra doller for courier shipping, I won't be getting it until monday ¬_¬ If Zidargh get's his world pass up and running before then, then that's fine and dandy and he can hook me up with one ^_^ Otherwise I'll PM my world pass to Desbreko when I get it up and running, I know FFXI will run on my PC no problem because I downloaded this FFXI thing which tells you how well the game will run on your PC, bah, if I still had the link somewhere I would post it up, it was probably on the site Desbreko posted earlier with the world pass update. Zidargh
Seph I have an important question, what are your PC specs? I'm finding it hard to get the damn thing to work, oh well, I'll succeed eventually. Guys, make sure you have a decent internet connection, 56k's okay, but make sure it won't keep signing you off as PlayOnline is the foundation for the game and acts as an 'in-game browser'. Well I'll update you later.

Besides, I'm in the US at the moment on as friends computer so itr should work at home. What OS do you have, apparebtley alot of people are finding it troublesome to install FFXI, according the PlayOnline. Zidargh
Well guys, after much patience I got the game running, I must say that I'm impressed. Unless you're in your Mog House it's terribly laggy, due to the huge amount of people on a single server. I started off in Bastok and Bastok I shall remain. The graphics are very impressive but you will need to configure the game settings to what your computer can handle. Later, I will take a few screenies of my play. The majority of the population of players are Japanese so I felt very lonely, heh. There were some English people though. Missions are pretty challenging considering I haven't even done one, as for combat that's very enjoyable. You select your target with the mouse and double click it, then you have battle options such as 'attack' such as that. Equipping's very fun etc etc. I will edit this in more detail later. By the way, World Passes are hard to come by, I'm still searching. Speak soon. Well as I was saying, the controls seem a bit sucky at first but they're pretty easy to use. They consist of the click and drag technique, or the directional keys. It's pretty easy to get used to though. As for exploration, I feel it's fantastic, considering the combat system is so fun, you can even run about and stuff with your weapon unsheathed, But now to the main point, guys I seriously need some of you to play with me, we'll actually go on a an expedition with other troops if we form a party and that's an easy 500 gil as I only have 10 lol. See you around.
zidane11
I don't have enough memory to play it on the pc but I am getting it for the ps2 the first day it comes out. I already have a network adaptor and everything. I was just wondering, is anyone else waiting for the ps2 release?
Zidargh
Well I think you've made the right choice there, the system interface on PC is just terrible, I'm sorry, but it is. Chatting is difficult, especially when you have to move at the same time, and the camera constantly has to be switched in order to take in the views. If the PS2's controls are much more improved, go you. Now I have to work out how to find a damned Shell Shield.
Sephiroth
The PS2's controls will most likely be similar to that of the PC since you WILL need to get a keyboard to be able to chat. As for not being able to chat while running and stuff, well that's common for many MMORPG's, EverQuest had a "follow" option where you automatically followed someone and could talk to them at the same time, not sure what option FFXI would have. Most likely people will divise or have alreadu devised short phrases for important things, like for example during battle if you needed to be cured you might type "nac" Need A Cure, this probably isn't it but hey I'm just giving examples here lol

Unless they want to just restart their characters over and over again until they happen to get on the same server as you. I've talked to people that have done that, and it took them hours, apparently. And that brings me to an important question: Which server are you playing on? In addition to the World Pass password, we'll need to know the name of the server you're on. So yeah, find an easy source of money. There's gotta be some other way you can make money besides fighting, if you're still too weak to beat enemies that give you a decent amount of Gil. Bastok is supposed to have a lot of mines nearby; try mining for a while to scrape up enough Gil for a World Pass. Or fishing, or logging if there's trees around, or whatever. Maybe you can beg for money. ;) Also, I'm curious about what you decided on for your race and job. Did you go for the Hume Warrior like you were thinking? Oh yeah, and by the way, I made a few avatars of the nations' flags. (As you can see from my Windurst flag avatar). If anyone wants to use them, you can find them on my image site: Bastok Flag San d'Oria Flag Windurst Flag Jeuno Flag
Zidargh
Right, you are correct is Seph, there is a follow option when you type ''/follow ''. However, that prevents the person being followed from conversing with people lol. I will find the server name for you Des but I have to catch my flight home soon so I'll update you tomorrow. On the character side, yes I did become ther Hume Warrior, I'll post some pictures up of myself ^_^;. Mages are incredibly handy, whether they be Black or White, it's nice effects on spells too. And I'll take the Bastok avvey please Des ;)
