Mitch
Stupid title aside, I actually have something to address in this thread. I did PM James about this...but I don't know if it's actually fixable. I'm not really complaining in this thread...just curious as to how many people this happens to as well. I think it owes its affliction in AOL users. That is what I am forced to use. Anyways, to the point. Every once in a while at unbeknownst intervals, as I click into OL, and other places, quite often, it says my IP is banned and will not let me go into OL, or wherever. It mostly happens in OL, but has happened in the second pages of threads.. I'd just like to know if anything could be done; of others that are afflicted with it; and...yeah. It's annoying a lot of the time. SO LIKE OMG WTDF HLP ME!1111!11. ...Yes.
Heaven's Cloud
I have the problem too, but only when I am browsing using AOL. It really is a pain because it only pops up occasionally, like after you spent fifteen minutes writing a post. I don't always use AOL, but when I do it is a constant pain.
Maully
Me too. I actually PMed James about it last night. I was not allowed to even view anyhting but the home page and my profile most of the night. It can be rather infuriating.
Justin
Yep, it been happening to me pretty regularly of late. Darn AOL -Justin
Guest cloricus
I've had about ten users come to me with this problem and I tell them to swap browsers, though thinking back I guess they can't without putting a hack on it? (Not overly sure how AOL proxy?s stuff.) Though you guys should be so lucky, OtakuBoards is deleted from the DNS servers in our area regularly (I think) which leaves us each time about eight hours without access to it or MyOtaku... James
I can only hand you over to Justin B. or something. I have no idea what the problem is, at all. It does seem to primarily affect AOL users though. I don't know about anything we can do from our end to fix it.
Nate
If it does that, get on aol, then shrink it down. Click on Internet explorer, and that should load up, runnig off of AOL's connection. Ineternet Explorer Never does that. Just thought i'd help ~`_Nate_`~
Mitch
I cannot do that, since, when I click on IE and it runs it will not load sites because of my parental controls. Duh.
jblessing
Does this happen through an AOL dial-up connection? Or just running a different ISP other than AOL but using the AOL software? If so, its possible that a member on this board was banned with and was using AOL, and since on dial-up your IP constantly changes.. it might just reflect a banned IP every so often. However, I highly doubt it. If it is just through the AOL explorer.. I'll check into it.
Maully
Forgive my computer stupidity... I am not entirely sure what much of that actually means... I am an AOL dial-up, and I am not banned all the time, just sometimes. It is happening more increasingly though. Usually it happens at night, if that makes a difference, night and really early (like 1:30 am)morning. But, yes, it happens with AOl dial-up as well.
conpiracymonki
If it is through the AOL browser thingy, then it's not for all AOL users. I use AOL to go to OB and everything else, and not once has it said I'm banned here. Dunno if that really helps..
Nate
what i think it is, is that certain ip addresses are banned, and with dial-up, it changes IPs alot. Hence, you might pull the one that was banned, if it's nto in use any more. Just my 2 cents. ~`_Nate_`~
Maully
Irony: my trying to post in this thread and getting a banned message... Anyway, I was just going to say that AOL must like AJEH better... and that it has only happened to me once since this thread was started, but now it's twice.
Guest cloricus
No that?s just not happening, the chances that you would ever get the same IP again out of the large block that AOL would own is stupid to assume. If OB had banned about six billion IP's I could believe that maybe every so often you would get banned, but I doubt that OB would have even banned anywhere near 1000 ip's over all the years it's been up. Advice; get a real isp.
Chaos
It's only the North American server of AOL that has this problem, it seems. The only conclusion I can come to is that a partial IP was banned to keep someone on dial-up from coming back and it matches halfway to some AOL people. Mine included. Mitch, download Netscape or something. Or tell your parents their facist rule has restricted you from extending your mental stimuli and as a result your brain has gone into recession and you will eventually become disabled from the ears-down if they do not revoke the strict controls. O-o;

I'm certain this isn't the case for two reasons. 1) If your partial IP had been banned, you wouldn't be here to post that message. 2) People who have had this "banned message" have given me their IPs so that I can cross check them with our IP ban list. And none of them match -- even partially listed IPs do not match any of those given to me by people who are having this problem. So, from that I can only conclude that it's not a question of us actually banning anyone's IP, even non-directly. It's something else.
Chaos
The only remaining things are; 1) Jelsoft has a hard-on for AOL users and wants to make them suffer. -or- 2) There is a glitch in a line of code somewhere on OB's programming and sends up a red flag for certain IPs.
