Heaven's Cloud
For some reason I expect more from someone that quotes Walt Whitman in his sig. Although I guess I have no room to write... I don't remember teachers ever cussing at students, but I do remember a snide "West Virginian" joke that my biology teacher told. It was quite raunchy.

RicoTranzrig
"Theachers?" j/p When my American History instructor talked about his days in Vietnam, he held a special lecture where he dropped his teacher ID card and told his story his way, with all the "oh Fs and Ss." My previous English professor says bad words occasionally to put everyone at ease. Although he did lose some students who don't like to hear that kinda stuff. By High School/College, most kids should be general enough to take language like that. Unless it's abusive...
Guest cloricus
Teachers are just like every one else, they get pissed off and have bad days too. Yes they should compose themselves but every one slips up at some point so why can?t they. As far as swearing it's self you should get used to it because you will be hearing it more and more as you grow up.
Mitch
OMG MY TEACHER SAYS BAD WORDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also find it funny you have Walt Whitman quoted in your sig. Do you even stand for transcendentalism (or however the hell it is spelled)...because I don't think, from what I've learned of it, that someone would take offence to such language. Why can a word be bad? Because someone says it is bad. They got bad. The words are tainted in a culture where every little thing is faceted. I find nothing wrong with swearing. If it gets people's attention, do it. If it more shows what you're trying to say, say it. If it feels good to swear, swear. It's better than stalking around like you're the muffin man and murdering innocent peaches. Especially peach heads. Was gay originally a bad word? No, it meant happy. Was bastard originally a bad word? No, it means a motherless child. Was **** originially a bad word? No, back in Shakespeare's day the word was even used. Was ***** always a bad word? No, it means female dog. Do you see what I mean? If you take offense to language directed at you, then you're pretty sensitive. This is the way the world is. Live with it.
pbfrontmanvdp
Ummmmm is this topic serious........i dont see whats so bad if a teacher curses. I mean come on your parents curse at home most likely, do you go around saying that to everyone??? Anyway though most teachers sometimes cant catch themselves before they curse since some talk like that all the time outside of school. Im probably going to become a teacher once i finally graduate from this stressful college and i probably will accidently curse once in a while in my class. Its basically a common thing now to say the F' word or any curse word for that matter, and if a curse word "accidentally" slips out of my mouth, what is going to happen.....am i going to be fired and banned from teaching forever  . Am i going to be on Fox news and be put on trial  . No of course not, why anyone would make such a huge deal about this is beyond me and i have to totally agree with Mitch on this one.....live with it and to add a little more to that, "live with it, it happens". wilder.schwein
Very funny. I am from Frankfurt, and over here we pride ourselves in teaching not to say bad words. There are times when, yes, the teacher will say things out of line, but I have never heard a teacher say the "S" word out loud to a class. Maybe as others stated earlier, it is just a normal habit. I take it, that in America it is normal as it is in every part of the world for someone to get upset and say rude things. We all are, in the long run, human... I suppose. Deedlit
My economics teacher Ms. Whatley has cussed a few times, but not intentinally. She only cusses when 1.) she's not thinking straight, and 2.) when she's really pissed. One time a student asked if another answer was acceptable on a quiz, and she said "Oh, what the hell. Give them credit for it. :)" Then she said "damn" when the class was really acting up. Minor cussing like that doesn't affect me at all, but if it's something like "F-this," and "F-that," or "F-you," then I would probably have a problem with it. If it's not, it's not a big deal since you've probably heard alot worse language riding the bus or walking in the hall between classes. Brasil
Teachers are human beings. Human beings curse. That's...the way it is. I can understand if someone feels uncomfortable with an instructor who says, "mother ******* ******** ******* **** for brains *******!" But just "****"? No. Some of my professors have used "******* ********" to describe an interpretation of film, but you see, the students' age and maturity level was high enough to not be offended...was high enough to appreciate the humorous way that "******* ********" was used. Granted, instructors should keep a clean mouth. But an occasional Freudian Slip shouldn't offend anyone. And...yes. The Walt Whitman quotes do pose a conundrum. Read Leaves Of Grass. "Mother ****** ********" will sound a lot less offensive after reading a few choice selections from Leaves Of Grass. Walt Whitman is one of the undisputed kings of devy sexual language. Shakespeare is one of the other devy sexual writiers ("I'll have this Michael Cassio on the hip"<--Iago plotting to manipulate Cassio, but the line is certainly a rape reference). There are more offensive lyrics out there than just an instructor using a dirty word. And frankly, when I start teaching college, if students treat my class like a high school class, I will treat them like high school students. Semjaza
They swear so much that they didn't get around to telling you how to spell "teacher" correctly, I guess. As pessimistic as this sounds... get used to it. It only gets bigger in high school and really caps off in college. A good deal of my college teachers don't watch their language, they don't dumb things down... they talk to you how they'd probably talk to their friends. I don't see the big deal in those years, but I do agree in a younger environment it is not beneficial. It makes the teacher seem like an enemy and doesn't portray them as the role models they should be.
BabyGirl
I'm surprised that swear words [or cuss, whatever] aren't introduced into high school earlier. In college instructors are really allowed to use whichever cuss word they choose, and nobody thinks twice about it. I've heard endless useage of the 'S word' [gasp] and the 'F word' [double gasp] from my instructors...it doesn't bother me at all. Yes, now that I think about it, my high school teachers should have cussed more. It would have made life more interesting, much more spicy and fun.
Gohan Egret
Just because swearing is imbedded into our society it does not automatically equate to everyone having "get used to it" or even apply themselves to it. Yes, my teachers have sworn. On numerous occassions. Some where general outburts for the sake of laughter (Coach Easley - Finanical Ed.), seriousness (Mr. Wood - AP History), or anger (Brother Kevin - Religion). Irregardless, swearing only affects me if it comes from someone who I least expect it. Example - my cousin's. One is 11. The other is 8. They swear quite horribly. I find it rather horrific that my uncle/Godfather and aunt/Godmother allow such a thing. But, my uncle swears like a maniac. No surprise where they learned it from... Do I swear? Yup. Is it "right"? No. Do I know my limits? Yup. Do others? Nope. Do people get pushed over the edge and banter? Yup. Thus is the way of life... o.O
Pagan
Next time she curses its time to hit her up for some money. Its called blackmail and its perfectlt legal.....well maybe not that legal but who will know other then you and her. The board of education frowns upon cursing teacher here and can get the teacher fired but the problem is most of them don't like there job anyway and won't care is they are fired or not; the few good ones that are left, who actually enjoy teaching you shouldn't really bother with. When its a bad teacher on the other hand its time to hit them up for the lunch money.

My mind and soul are now corrupted, and I am to be damned to an eternity of torture in the blazing depths of... heck. (So as not to offend you). What is the big deal? It may be improper form for a teacher to swear, but students do it. If your friends said those words, you wouldn't be bothered, but just because it is teachers, you are bothered. Why is this? Sure, they shouldn't but as has been said, they are human and as such, fallible. What is the big deal?

I remember my Creative Writing teach in high school said that excessive use of cuss words shows a lack of intelligence, especially in writing. Unless your teachers are joking around, I'd worry about them dropping 17 F-bombs in a row. My Broadcasting teacher has a prime-time rule. Basically, you can say whatever you want, as long as it would be appropriate for prime-time television. That's not a problem to me, because I put myself on a personal PG13 limit. destro53
Yes, irregardless is a word, it just means the same thing as regardless. Yesterdays, my teacher told us the to write our answers on the answer ****. She told us she never swears and was very embarassed. Also, how does can a word be 'bad'. If it is that it insults people then 'stupid' is a bad word. So are phases like 'shut up'. How come we can say these freely?
Kei
I wouldn't worry about it too much, Manic. It's actually a word now. It's been published by Webster. (As per a comeback by a friend of mine, lol) I agree with just about everyone else. It's not a big deal that teachers curse. Every living person is bound to hear a "swear word" at one time or another in their lives. That's unavoidable. The only time children should be spared from hearing it is if they happen to sill be in grade shool (i.e. K-5). Other than that, they'll more than likely hear it every single day from a friend, a parent, a relative, or your random person on the street. Like just about everyone had already said, it's not that big a deal. Braidless Baka
Originally posted by Queen Asuka You named your couch? That's pretty weird.
Heh, I'm thinking he meant "coach", but meh... But yeah, swearing isn't something I care too much about. As long as it isn't excessively used. And I don't mean that because I dislike swearing, just because it's supposed to be offensive. So if some little brat in lower school (and trust me, they're in abundance) starts swearing their little heads off, I just don't like them. Because they're going out of their way to be offensive. However, I have some great teachers at school, and sometimes a cuss word slips out. But we don't think anything of it, because it's in reference to a thing or something they've done - not in reference to anyone else. If teachers are deliberately launching at you or people you know, that is something that should be rectified. Same thing if it's happening often. But if it's just a one-time thing... just calm down O_o;; the world doesn't get any quieter y'know...
Justin
No, irregardless is not a word. Look it up. However, ain't is. Teachers cussing? Not surprising. Cussing doesn't bother me, unless it's coming from someone who is claiming faith in Christ. In which case, it still doesn't bother me much. I just try to contact them and make sure that they know it is in conflict with the Lord. -Justin
Semjaza
Being in a dictionary doesn't amount to much. They still publish nonstandard words. Which is why you'll find stuff like "alright" in there. As with most things it just comes down to levels of importance. Does this actually matter? Are you actually going to sit there and get offended every time this happens? Are you going to lead some crusade to stop people from using words that everyone and their mother uses in frustration or anger at some point in their lifetimes? I fear for you once you get out in the real world, because you've seen nothing yet by comparison. There is a difference between just saying these words and applying them to threats. DeathKnight
It is actually quite unfortunate, really, that cursing has become something of a normalcy in society. I find that you can be as devilishly harsh or blunt without having to use them, if you put your mind to it. Ho hum. I guess I am not one to talk. Anyone who has chatted with me on AIM knows that I curse a tiny bit- just a wee few words here and there. Anyway. As said earlier, grow used to it- that is what you have to do. The good thing is, that while doing that, you yourself can make the choice not to cuss. stardust
that's awful actually. My teachers swear, but not in a yelling fashion. Nate
But, if cuss words are so bad, what makes them bad? Their a WORD. If you go by that, word is bad. He is bad. Just cause ***** and **** and **** are words doesn't make them bad workds, do they? Who cares if a teacher cusses. They have lives. The janitors do not come into the class and turn them off after school. And besides, what peoson hasn't cussed, wather by accident or not knownig it was a cuss word?
