In the following 3 days approaching I am going to turn the big "18" To me turning 18 will make me offically an adult. I am both looking forward to this age and not looking forward to the age. I am wondering though. This question (if possible) is directed to the ones who are going to be 18 in a few months or those who are 18. I'll be registering to vote so I can participate in the local issues and such. And I'll be able to get a license right away instead of having to wait until my six months are up on my driving permit. FYI im almost 20. Just to let you know the next paragraph will probably have a lot of random stuff in it, but it fits the situation perfectly. Trust me i was so happy and thrilled when i finally turned 18. Few more months and im finally out of the house and into a dorm in college. Finally get to do whatever i want (did that basically anyway) and have no consequences whatsoever. Unfortunantly i was completely wrong. Anyone who says that work in college is a hell of a lot easier than in HS is a complete idiot. Plus when i do go back home im like the third parent since i have to drive my brother around everywhere, but that just stopped happening last month. Then theres the expenses you go through when your at college and realize.......damn i have no money. I made about 8 grand over the summer and im running out of it. Then theres the constant voice in your heading pounding into brain saying "guess what right after college you have nothing else to really do but most likely work the rest of your life to you retire". Theres relationships that last like 2 days and ones that last 2 years and the outcome is the same answer, "Your a nice person but i want to meet other people". Is it really that bad does your family just stop caring about you and push you out of the nest to fly or fall(if they do I'm going to fall). My family needs to get anthoer one of their children out of the house so they can have the extra room for the study and move it out of the attic and they can't wait for me to be gone. Personally, I don't see the major benefits of any of these, although I'm not big on polotics. Things don't just radically change, it's just another year really. It means i'll have to stay the entire time at work, untill the entire store is cleaned, which never really happens till around midnight, instead of getting to leave a 10 and say "see ya later suckers!!!". Even though, i might feel like an adult, i'm sure i won't get the whole "let it hit me right in the face" until i move out to go to college. I know of all the responsibilities that go along with the age and I dread them. Legally being able to smoke isn't something I care for. I get worried alot actually because I know its coming. I know exactly what I want to be but I don't know how to go about in doing it. I also really regret not getting my temps and license when I turned of age. My mom tells me not to worry about it but it is a big deal. -_- What happened to the good ol' days? I remember being 14 and carefree, when I registered on OB for the first time. I remember thinking that becoming 18 would change things a lot...but honestly, it didn't. lol Nothing really changes. Sure, you can buy alcohol or go out to a club. So? It's really no big deal, unless you plan to live in clubs your whole life or drink yourself silly. *shrug* I never found that I had any particularly huge sense of new found freedom or anything like that. I never really sat there and thought "Cool, I'm 18, I can do all this stuff." But it just depends on the person. Some people will really take advantage of being 18, I guess. I just personally never saw it as being very different. If anything, I think my life changed a lot more noticably when I entered tertiary study. My life changed in many ways as a result of that. I got accepted at all my choice universities and I had to make a decision by May 1st which one to go to. May 1st is my birthday. ^_^ So I chose UGA and here I am. I graduated from high school, got lots of money, and in August, moved away from home. So yay! Being 18 is fun. Of course, I could legally smoke, drink (but not buy), go to bars, go clubbing, buy things from infomercials, and all that zany stuff, but really, I just don't take "advantage" of being 18. I turned the big 1-8 May 14th, and not a whole lot happened. I registered to vote, and that's just dandy, but that means I actually have to pay better attention to the election process if I don't want to be one of those uninformed voters. I imagined it was going to be a [i]really[/i] big thing, but to be honest it's not. I can already smoke, have sex legally, and gamble (National Lottery! Whoo!) - all of those are legal at 16, at 18 I guess I can drive (after passing my test) get married without parental consent (looooong ways from that yet ;)) and drink in public (I'm alcophobic and everything >.>;; ) - there's probably a whole bunch of things I've missed out about turning 18 (voting O_O) but I don't really think it's gonna effect me straight away... maybe later it will...
