Hey

I looked all over OB, but I couldn't find an answer to my question, which is this:

My banner won't load, despite trying multiple methods. I tried the

[ img ] link to image here [ /img ] and it told me my image was not found.

However, whenever I go to the link, it works fine. The image is within the limits, so I'm not sure what I should do. Can anyone help me here?

Muchos gracias to anyone who can!

ummm... is the img under the size limit"?
Other than the aforementioned points, you just need to make sure that you are requesting something that you are going to use in this forum, which would include (80 x 80 or smaller) avatars and (500 x 100 or smaller) banners.
if not you can upload it to another website and then use that url addresss for the img code. If u need a place to upload ur pic to a site and do know where just PM me and I'll give you a url of a site.

This should go in the Suggestions & Feedback forum. Banner/Avatar Request is for making requests only. *moves*

As for your problem, your host may not allow direct linking to files. If that's the case, you'll just have to host it somewhere else that does.

Try changing the image format (from JPG to GIF and vice versa).

If this does not work, try changing the file name (and the corresponding link to it). That should fix your problem, as I had the same issues with my banner once...and I just changed the file name and it showed up.

Edit: Ignore what was here before. I got it to load. Thanks for the help James. =)

Edit2: Darnit, it was working for a minute there! Now it has the red X again...is this just on my computer, or is my banner X'ed on everybodies?

One thing...the problem might stem from cookie settings on your browser. I've been having banner trouble on Rutgers computers...stuff not animating, not showing, etc. I'm pretty sure Rutgers has a different cookie setting, denying certain browser abilities.

Just a thought.

Okay, I finally found a way that works. I'm just running them out of my file manager on geocities. Why didn't I think of that before?

...I guess it's just the stupidity setting in. ^^;;

Thanks for all the help/tips/suggestions. I'm much obliged.

Just upload it in a random post on OB, copy the link to the uploaded banner, add the [img] [ /img] tags and plop it in your sig. Problem solved.

It averts having to find some host, having to worry about file formats, everything.
And does it appear I care? Obviously not, since by posting that I was contradicting what is allowed.

People shall do it nontheless, whatever we as Mods say.

Despite what we say, people still post pointless things. Does that mean we go about encouraging people to spam? No, we deal with the problem, warn the member, and edit/delete the posts. /

In any case.... question answered, topic closed.

I'm sorry to reply after this thread has been closed, but I have to step in and agree with Sara. I'm very surprised here.

Staff members are supposed to enforce the rules--not be completely apathetic and encourage annoying behavior that we've discouraged members from doing since I can remember. It's a serious problem when our staff members not only consciously ignore a rule but then go around telling others who do not know any better to follow suit because "they don't care." I can't believe you don't see a problem with that.

We're supposed to set a good example here. When we catch members uploading erroneous images there are warnings and, in some cases, consequences involved. We can hardly take action when the problem begins with our staff.

This isn't meant to sound harsh and I'm not trying to pick on anyone. It's certainly not personal either. But, as a staff member please try to put on a good example. You know better than this.

You don't care?

We know from our own experience that if we create rules and tell people not to violate them -- most will try not to. Why make the problem worse? You aren't the one hosting OtakuBoards on your server, so I guess it doesn't matter whether you encourage people to upload erroneous stuff or not.

This is really disappointing. I'm going to have to have a serious think about this.
