awww....Of course I care! ;) I'm getting frustrated though, b/c all the guys I'm meeting on here are quite a bit younger than me...*sniff* Oh well.... I'll get over it...
Yeah...If you wanna see ultimate prima dona tenor, see my thread "chauvinism". "Evan" is the biggest male prima dona I've ever met...
Out of curiosity: Who here has gotten to sing "Carol of the Bells"? I was in an all ladies' choir, so we got stuck w/ crappier songs. It's been my dream to perform "Carol of the Bells", but I'll have to wait 'til college.

I sing. i sing really good. but, unfortunately, there are things called suckups. There's this girl at my school, Abby, and she sucks up to my showchoir director, and she got the solo that I deserved.but back to the thread. I sing in choir and showchoir(a singing, dancing group). I sing alto in both of them.

I love The Pixies..

Anyways, I am not part of a choir or anything, but when I am alone and listening to music, I sing quite often. I also hope to be a singer-songwriter when I grow up, if that happens. It's doubtful...but you never know heh. Singing is fun.
How can one not love the Pixies? You know, they're beginning touring this April, I believe(Hoorah!).

I sing when I'm alone as well, but it's embarrassing when I start belting out the chorus or something and someone comes into my room... *shrugs*

Back in the day, I was a member of the school "singing group". I hated it so much for so many reasons. Firstly I was forced into it by a very intimidating music teacher (she wasn't really my teacher though, but still thought she could control me). Alot of the other members were obviously forced into it as well, and certainly weren't happy about it.

Secondly, the songs they sung were of the poorest choice. The teacher had barely an indication as to what a teen student audience would appreciate.

Thirdly, they were the laughing stock of the school. The performances they gave were terrible and there was always a moan heard whenever they took the stage. They only lengthened out our assemblies in which everyone wished they were somewhere else.

And lastly, I hate doing things I'm not good. I'm an okay singer on the occasion, but I'd never think I was good enough to perform in front of an audience as if I was.

I was only able to leave the group after consultation to the principal. I confronted the teacher and just told her then and there that I wasn't going to be in her singing group or do whatever she told me to do (she never asked).

It seems as though alot of you conversely enjoy your singing groups, and I hope your enjoyment continues in the future.

I'm really sorry, Mac Attack, about your bad experiences with choir. It sounds like choir back in grade school/junior high for me. Everyone hated the music teacher, but a lot of us ended up in choir anyway (in junior high, it was either take choir or take "music appreciation"). I've always been the "good student" in that, I can't bring myself to disrespect a teacher (to his/her face...:p) So, Mrs. Bouska put me on a pedastel as the "model student" just b/c I'd actually do as she asked, despite the fact that I hated it. However, since I actually enjoy performing music, it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
That having been said, I feel like I might unintentionally be one of the suckups that kenshinsbabe hates. Sorry! *cowers* I think, more than anything, I'm simply respectful. My current choir teacher often chooses me for special duties even though I'm not a section leader. (but that might be b/c she doesn't like the soprano section leader, who, as mentioned before, is a rather bitchy prima dona. She's not nearly as good as she thinks she is.)

In spite of what it may seem, I'd believe myself to be a very respectible person. All I did in this situation was assert myself as I'd been bullied by this teacher at that time. From then onwards it ceased.

She knew I wasn't a bad person, just that I wasn't going to be made to be forced into things when she especially was going beyond her means (I reinforce again, she was not my music teacher). I still contributed in music projects I wanted such as playing piano in the school musical band. Yet in other instances such as being made to perform in the choir and give solo piano performances at assemblies, I said no. Her and I get on well now.

Ick, my music teacher in sixth grade was horrible. She would wear suits (yes...suits) with like, dollar bills hanging off of them and so not only was she just weird to look at but she was the WORST teacher. I was in choir in 6th grade for a while but then I think i dropped out. In seventh grade it wasn't much better. Our choir teacher had us just sing some scales to see what voice part we were, and he stuck me as an alto. Um...right...not only could I sing the highest note in the class, but there were also some sopranos that couldn't even sing the soprano part - he basically based it on how our voices sound when we talk (mine isn't as high as like, the cheerleaders) and so then in 8th grade he moved me up to soprano but then that year was just bad because the guys had joined us because we were the top choir of the school and all of the girls were going gaga over all the guys singing and the guys wouldn't sing...anyway, i'm getting off topic here...so i'm stlil in the chorale in 9th grade with a much better woman teacher (even though she's an alto at heart, she can still teach the sopranos well) and i'm a first soprano. I'm really not sure about the funding of our choir program, just that we have a lot of fundraisers at our school to go on school trips to places where we would sing...but I really do love choir, and I love to sing, and it's one of my favorite periods.

Man, your 6th grade teacher sounds like Mrs. Pedruzzi, one of the Spanish teachers at our school. That woman is insane!! Luckily, I never had her for Spanish, but she was a sub for our music teacher back in grade school once. Everyone hated our music teacher, but after having Pedruzzi for one day, we were beggin to get Mrs. Bouska back!
Speaking of switching voice parts, I talked to my current choir teacher before Christmas break, and she let me switch spots w/ a mezzo soprano. Yay! Now, even though I sit in the front, I don't have to sit next to my evil section leader!! (On two-part harmony, I still sing soprano, so I haven't changed much.)
I was thinking of starting a new thread for this, but it's related: Has anyone else had to go through big try-outs for music related things? I'm trying out for the musical and we have call-backs on Tuesday...I'm excited, but a little nervous, too. I'm going to have to sight-sing. I hate sight-singing...
