Pagan
If you didn't know movie hopping is the act of paying to see one movie but actually seeing more like four. Have you ever moive hopped if so is it wrong to? Whenever I go to the movies I movie hop. I paid to go see the Matrix Reloaded but while I was there I also watched Finding Nemo, Bruce Almighty, X-Men 2, and 2 Fast 2 Furious. The movie theater I go to is really under staffed and it is easy to just go from one to another. The reason why it is under staffed is because it can't afford to pay people they say, but me and you both know thats a lie. I pay more over ten dollars just to get in and they don't have money. The tickets cost to much and the prices just kepp getting higher and higher and the people stop coming one by one. Anthoer reason I movie hop is because some movies really suck. I browse the theater until I find a good one. I don't want to pay $10.00 for a crappy movie I'm going to sleep through. I want to get my moneys worth for something that should be free anyway. I mean how much does it cost to run a theater.......not much. After buying the film and paying the bills the theater still has a surplus. They don't really have to buy that nasty food with the left over money. The movie theater cheats people every day with there high prices. A candy bar for $3.00 while at Walmart it is only barely even $1.00. I refuse to pay that price for a Hersheys chocolate bar. I bring my own food and eat it there. They try to take it and make you buy their stuff but I would much rather have my own food I prepared myself. "I mean, give me a break."a quote from John Stossel on 20/20. Maully
The theatre in the city that I frequent now has cops around on weekends to apprehend hoppers... A little extreme, yes, but you're shoplifting. I know you are not leaving a store with a new toy or a new shirt, but you are receiving a good or service you did not pay for. I agree the general public is getting ripped off at theatres, they're too expensive, admission and refreshment wise. I wonder what their profit margins are.
James
Of course movie hopping is wrong. It's the act of consuming something that you haven't paid for. You can try to justify it by talking about how much popcorn costs or something else...but at the end of the day, you're stealing. And stealing is wrong. There's your answer.
Artemis
 I can't believe the kinds of things I have to discuss w/ you, Tony. Duh!! movie hopping is wrong! you only paid for one movie. If you're worried about not gettin' your money's worth...don't go. It's as simple as that. Seriously... ~art~
Doukeshi
Well, isn't he only paying to see one movie anyway? If he movie hop's he's missing out on the movie he paid to see while also missing the part of the movie he's hopped to that was showing while he was watchin the movie he paid for in the first place. This is unless the movies all started at different times and he's catching the beginning of each movie he's hopping to.
XxmagentaxX
movies down here are 7.50 for the matinee.... its really not worth it to see just one movie... I mean 2 years ago it was 4.50 At least Im not in LA... th matinee is 10.50... how crappy is that?
Ratix
Of course its wrong, but theres so many things that are wrong but people still do 'em... I think that if i had the guts to do a such thing, id definitely do it ^_^
Semjaza
This shows such a lack of understanding of a lot of things. How much does it require to run a movie? Let's see... there is usually some cost concerning the building's space, the electric, the workers, etc. Then you have to pay for upkeep and many other things included in that. I don't think many people realize how much it costs for a theater to get an actual movie to play. It's a LOT of money, more than any normal person could ever afford. They have to make up for this. While I agree that prices on food and tickets are a bit much now, that doesn't justify this. And that's really all it is. Anyone with a basic idea of right and wrong would realize that they shouldn't be doing this. All I'm seeing that "justifies" it are a bunch of really lame excuses. Someone brought up paying for their one ticket and seeing something else... Well perhaps that could be understandable, but you're seeing one thing in place of another. You're not seeing both together. The original idea here was seeing several movies at once. You could have the foresight to read up on the movie before you see it. If you go in and wind up hating it, that's your problem. The theater doesn't owe you anything. You were the one dumb enough to buy the ticket in the first place. OlgaTheDwarf
Originally posted by Hells Fire Have you ever moive hopped if so is it wrong to?
Wow, this question is pretty disturbing. I mean, has the world gotten so screwed up that people actually question if blattant stealing is wrong. (Notice, there's no question mark, it's a rhetorical question.)
Originally posted by Hells Fire The movie theater cheats people every day with there high prices.
No, it may be unfair but movie theaters won't cheat you out of your money (they like to leave that up to the insurance companies :D ). Maybe you should look up what the word to "cheat" means, because here's what my dictionary says, "to deprive by trickery or deceit." So far all the theaters I've been to are honest about their prices, there's no fine print or hidden charges, it may be jacked up but they state their prices fair and square. Which brings me to another point, no one is forcing you to pay their jacked up prices, it's completely your choice. By the way you post was written, it made it sound like the theaters were mugging you, which I hope you realize is not the case, quite the opposite in fact. Your are willing giving your money to the movie theater; you don't have to go and see a movie you want to, and by buying a ticket you are agreeing to abide by there rules, which I would like to remind you, you break them everytime you movie hop.
Originally posted by Hells Fire Anthoer reason I movie hop is because some movies really suck. I browse the theater until I find a good one. I don't want to pay $10.00 for a crappy movie I'm going to sleep through. I want to get my moneys worth
Well, I would like to make the point that by buying a ticket for one movie, you and only you, are agreeing to watch that movie so changing your mind without the okay of the theater is breaking your agreement, therefore it is wrong. Now that that is clear, I hope you understand that you are a very irresponsible person if you think that it's the theater's fault for the crappy movie that you chose to pay for. It's your friggin fault you chose the crappy movie, not the theaters, why should they pay for your mistake? Why don't you stop making excuses and take the freaking responsibility for your actions!
Originally posted by Hells Fire, (Underlined by me) "I mean, give me a break."a quote from John Stossel on 20/20.
Yes, of course the almighty "me", that's what it all boils down to, it's whatever makes "you" feel good, why should you care about the people you are cheating. Oh, and that's another good point you speak out strongly against the movie theaters cheating you, then you do the exact same thing. Sounds like someone is being hypocritical. DeathBug
My dad used to say that your integrity is only worth whatever you're willing to loose it for. Congrats, your integrity's worth a free showing of "2 Fast, 2 Furious"! Aren't you proud? Movie hopping is stealing. There is no justification for theft. Guest rttocs77
If you only paid for one movie you should only see one movie. Period.
conpiracymonki
WOAH o.O $10.50 is £6.28 down here. You guys have your prices steeper than ours, lol. We don't really have a problem with having to 'movie-hop'. This is because we have so many easy-to-get-to and nearby cinemas that it isn't even funny. So we could prove we're under 16 and go to a place where we get free popcorn before 12pm for £2.10 (I think that's the price). Or we could get super-watched real quality super screens for £4-£5.50. Or we could go to the cheap place that I dislike, but won't be asked about my age for £3-£5.50. And then there's two more nearby -.- We can basically pick near enough an exact time to watch any film, along with the price and food if we want to. Ratings don't even matter, and it's all for pretty cheap in most places. *nods* We have pretty much no reason to have to movie-hop down here, lol. *can't watch 2 films in a row anyway, and picks films wisely*
