Long Signatures

Let's not get too wound up over this, everyone.

Jenna originally asked about signature lengths and whether or not they are too long at the moment.

Admittedly, we do not have a specific rule about signatures. We've always simply advised people to try and keep to about ten lines or so -- in other words, to be courteous and reasonable.

Making this a rule would be tough, because only Administrators have the power to edit people's signatures -- this is a result of the vB software itself. Short of making five or six Administrators, the problem can't be solved in that way. And I really don't want the senior staff to be browsing through thousands of signatures, when more important issues (ie: spamming in posts) need to be dealt with.

However, as I said, I do want to impose a signature limiting software on OtakuBoards in the future. Believe me, I haven't forgotten about this, it's simply been a matter of time and resources.

So, Jenna, I'm mostly posting this message for you, so that you know that I am well aware of your (and others') concerns. I will do my best to find a solution to excessively long signatures. In the mean time, I recommend that we all bear in mind that it's quite possible to have a civil discussion and an exchange of ideas without getting nasty or impolite. Please, don't make me take out the big wooden paddle. :drunk:

Mitch, stop being a little *****.

(Hey, that rhymes! You must hate it because of that!) ;)

Seriously, I ignore your pointless and inane posts (and there have been a few lately), why not ignore my (supposedly) pointless and (supposedly) inane signature?

There are more important things than getting pissy over a sig, Mitch, including becoming an actual writer and not just being someone who thinks of themself as a writer (<--that's called Poseur).

Frankly, I don't see what your beef is. You just complain and complain all the time. I've read your MyOtaku. So, what's your beef? Where's the beef?

Shall I pull out some of our AIM convos? Perhaps those will shed some light on your angst...
You are supposedly a Poison Tongue, so why can't you take what you bander?

You also need to learn about a thing called sarcasm. I didn't meant exactly what I meant. I was just being flirty, and here you go and just blow up on me.

Why am I even posting this? Ah well.

In the end your sig can be as long as you want; there is currently not limit.

Ok. Time for my two bob worth.

As I was reading, before reaching your post, I thought of you PT. lol. I didn't mind yours though. it was amusing and well done, I liked it.

What I don't like is really long ones that are annoying, stupid and pointless. My one could possibly be trimmed, but I feel happy with it. I think Charles' sig is fine.

I disagree with the siggie limit. i rarely see over the top ones. There are few enough of them to just PM the person, and if they don't fix it, James or Charles can. There aren't many bad siggies here. Also, the sigie limit may be slightly restricting. Thats the idea, but I vote against it. REFERENDUM!! lol

Also Sara. We should block your siggie, it is too long. lol. I actually love your siggie format...

EDIT*****

I actually saw that ,mine was quite long, probably due to that new addition. So, I trimmed, cropped and backspaced, and am much happier with it now.

Another idea if you wish to keep your siggie's long... use [*size=1] [/*size] tags. Thats what I do. lol

I remember when we did have the sig lengths, I wasn't too happy with it. It was very restricting, only allowing you eight lines, or four lines if you had a banner. I think it should be a little less restricting than that.

My sig is quite short...but hey, I have nothing interesting to put there.

One thing I've been meaning to suggest for a while which half-comes under this subject is a 'Preview Signature' option in My Profile. It'd make things much easier in terms of putting in and editing things to make sure if they look right. As it is I have to find wherever it is I last posted and have a look there, heh.

Just an idea, even if it might be too complicated to implement.

But mine were witty and only a few lines long. Others decided to put their entire thesis in their sigs after that. But yes, I did start some sort of craze...what? Two years ago? Jesus, it's been that long? x,x;

MY ------- EYES!!! *head explodes*

Eh, I generally don't have a problem with huge sigs, as long as they don't include something along the lines of what Jenna so boldly created there. And even then, I just scroll past it. I'm not so vain that I get worked up over losing two point five seconds of my minute on some newbie explaining their biography.

Odd, you would figure it would piss me off extremely, eh?
