Pokemon of the Week

Hello fellow Pokemon fans! This thread is sorta like Rokas's "Digimon of the Week" thread, but it's about Pokemon. Basically, someone picks a Pokemon, and people can talk about that Pokemon for a week. When the week's over, someone can post a different Pokemon. You can't have the same Pokemon two weeks in a row. This is because I thought it might be fun to just talk about one specific Pokemon for a while. You can say basically anything about the Pokemon of the week, such as its importance in the show, a review of it in the games/trading card game, what you like/dislike about it, and more. For exqample, I'll post the first Pokemon of the Week:

Torchic

Yep, Torchic. You know, the Fire-type starter in Ruby/Sapphire, and May's first Pokemon. I play Sapphire and I picked Torchic as a starter, even though it's bad against the first gym. But it paid off... Torchic can evolve into Combusken, a supercool Fire/Fighting-type. I don't know about the other starters, (Mudkip sounds like the one that'll be good against most gym leaders...) but Torchic is my personal favorite, and that's why. Plus, it's cute!

Yeah... a karate chicken... basically.

OK! Let's talk about Torchic! ...Or at least for now.

I will say this one time. If Desbreko or myself see any spam whatsoever, this will be shut down immediately. Let's not have a repeat of similar threads that have come before this, okay? You've been warned.

I can see why you said that. It's really hard to talk about one pokemon for an entire week.

Anyway, Torchic isn't that good of a choice for a starter. The fact that it changes from fire(Torchic) to fighting (Blazeken), It wouldn't last against those really hard battles, like the Elite Four. Mudkip is my choice, considering that it can learn a variety of attacks.

Torchic's final form, Blaziken, is known to have the 1 HP of death set.

Blaziken: Salac berry/White herb
Overheat
Endure
Reversal
Bulk up/doubleteam/sunny day

EV's: 252 in Speed, 126 in Atk and Sp atk.

Best if you can pass agility to it. Use Bulk up/sunny day to increase not only offense, but defense. With salac berry, your speed boosts up. With White herb, you can use 2 full power overheats.

Reversal's total power at 1 HP is 300, including STAB. Overheat's total power with STAB and Blazikens ability is 315. 472 if sunny day is up, and 157 the second hit without White herb, and 235 with Sunny day up.

Timid, Hasty, Jolly, Naieve recomended for speed boost. Hardy, Docile, Serious, bashful, and quirky are close seconds.

Well, since it is a new week, I will go ahead and choose a new Pokemon if that is all right with y'all. This week I choose Cubone.
He is not only cool, but my favorite pokemon since the beginning of the show. His boneclub and bonemerang are highly effective, and he is a loner like I was.

I like Cubone too, but his evolution Marowak is better, I think. I like the way that it was drawn and some of the attack that it learns, they're not all that bad.

The cubone family has the highest attack power. Period. Along with the thick club, an attack power of 259, or 284, would become 518, or 568.

Marowak: thick club
Sword dance
Earthquake
Rock slide
Fire blast

Is the recomended set.

Cubone starts off with the bone in his hand as you can see in Des's pic. The reason I really like Cubone is because he was the first pokemon I saw in the episode where Ash takes on that girl in the school. If you have seen that episode, then you know he has a bone since his main attack was bonemerang. But enough of Cubone now. Someone else pic a pokemon to discuss.

I'll do the honors this week.

This Week's Pokemon: Meganium

Official Information: The aroma that arises from its petals contains a substance that calms aggressive feelings.

I personally like Meganium simply because it can use the Bright Beam combo (Sunny Day/Solarbeam). Though it's not the best Pokémon to use for that sort of thing, I still like it anyway. I haven't trained one for myself (only for a friend), but I believe it's still an all-around good Pokémon.

Yeah, I've seen that episode; that was a good one. "The School of Hard Knocks," heh.

But anyway, about Meganium... I've just never really liked Grass type Pokemon all that much. I always choose the Fire type starters. I do like Bulbasaur and its evolutions, though. How do Meganium's stats measure up to Venusaur's?

I used Meganium myself.

Meganium:Focus band
Sunny day
Solarbeam
Syntheses
Ancient power.

I could give a long lecture on the disciplining of using the powerful Sunny-beam combo, but aren't in the mood right now.

Meganium is built almost all for defenses. Would've been a tank if it weren't for grasses 5x weaknesses on it's own. Fire, Bug, Flying, Ice, and Poison all seem to not agree with it.

This took way too long on my part, lol.

Hit Points: Meganium 364 Venusaur 364
Attack: Meganium 263 Venusaur 263
Defense: Meganium 299 Venusaur 265
Speed: Venusaur 259 Meganium 259
Sp. Attack: Venusaur 299 Meganium 265
Sp. Defense: Venusaur 299 Meganium 299
Overall: Meganium: 1749 Venusaur: 1749

So, apparently, they both come out with the same stats in the long run, but Meganium is better at Defense, while Venusaur excels at Sp. Attack. In a battle, Venusaur would more than likely win, since Venusaur can learn some Poison attacks

My turn.

This week?s Pokemon is: Absol

My personal favorite, Absol is a dark-type, which makes him very good against Psychics, which I tend to have trouble against. He can learn a variety of moves, including the Psychic-type Future Sight(a great surprise move when used by dark-type Absol).

Absol?s very useful ability is Pressure, which doubles the opponent?s PP usage. This makes it much easier to run your opponent out of PP, a stratagy which I used against the Elite Four and Champion.

And Absol looks cool, too.

Absol is nice.
Like you said the PP draining is handy.
I didnt really train this one or anything but it doesnt look too bad and well... I like the fact that he is totally white with just a black head, but even still a dark type heh.

yeah its a nice one. But he doesnt have any evolutions so kinda gives away the fun of training it in the beginning.

Most common thing for Absol to be is a baton passer.

Absol: Salac berry/focus band
Baton Pass
Sword dance
Shadowball
Aerial ace/doubleteam
EVs: 252 in HP, 128 in def, 124 in sp def.

Don't need any EVs in attack since it's already good, and knows sword dance.

Absol is great. I trained him very well, I battled very weak pokemon, and just kept using Sword Dance and boosted his Attack up. I did this all the time until I was pleased, only problem was he was stronger than my first pokemon, and I don't like that.

I used him on Ruby to win against Rock pokemon, because his attack was great. I use Absol to defeat hard Defence pokemon, like Steel type, I know I should use my fire's, but I love Absol.

Yeah, Absol is amazing, but when I first saw one, I tried loads of times, but never caught it, until I used my Mightyena (which I nicknamed Solo, for no reason at all....)

Well now, enough of Absol, it is time for the next Pokemon so since no one else has opted in their oppinion, then I will choose for this week. And I choose you Mighteyena. Or however it is you spell its name. This is a great dark type who looks cool on top of that. He is somewhat fast and strong. His crunch is good along with his ability to lower the opponent's attack when he comes out. So what do y'all think?
