Artemis stared out the window of her luxorious Olivine City office to watch the sunset over the bay. She gently stroked Saea, her beloved Meowth and was pleased to hear it purr contently at her touch. She smiled slightly.

Artemis: Simpler things in life such as a sunset can have such a soothing effect, isn't that right, Saea?

Her Scratch Cat Pokémon nuzzled deeply into her hand, and meowed loudly in agreement.

Artemis: Yes. But a much more complex pleasure is the only one that can truly soothe a troubled soul like mine...

Just then, Artemis' phone rang and brought her out of her one-sided conversation. She quickly turned in her plush chair and tapped the speakerphone button.

Artemis: This had best be important.

???: It is, Miss Artemis.

She recognized the voice as one of the scientists from the Undeground Lab outside Ecruteak. They were the ones Artemis currently had performing computer-generated experiments with various Pokémon.

Artemis: Well, would you rather keep me in suspense, or tell me what you've called for?

Scientist: R-Right. Forgive me. I'd called because we've made an important discovery in our experiments.

Artemis sighed annoyedly. How could she have hired someone incompetent enough not to be able to handle a simple report over the phone in a timely manner?

She was very careful to keep her voice as even as possible when next she spoke.

Artemis: That being?

Scientist: It seems as if recessive traits from certain prehistoric Pokémon have become dominant in some of the Flying and Water subjects currently at our disposal at the Ciannwood Lab.

Artemis: How so?

Scientist: Well, Miss Artemis, it would be easier to show you rather than to tell you over the phone, seeing as it--

Artemis: Fine. I'm on my way. I want a full hard copy report waiting for me upon my arrival, got it?

Scientist: Yes, Miss Artemis.

Artemis turned off her speakerphone and sighed once again.

Artemis: That way, I won't have to speak with you directly again. Idiot.

She picked up the receiver and punched in four numbers in quick succession. The other end only rang once before being answered.

Artemis: Seshi, bring the car around. I need to take a trip to the Ecruteak Lab.

Seshi: At once.

Artemis hung up and rose, walking around her desk toward the door.

Artemis: Come, Saea. Perhaps this time, our findings will prove useful in the long run.

Saea gracefully lept from her seat on Artemis' desk and eagerly followed her master. As they both walked down the hall, Artemis turned to her thoughts.

Artemis: Father...The time is drawing closer for us to wage our epic fight against one another using the fruits of our labors...And I will emerge the victor. You can be sure of that.

"Hey, fancy a Pokemon battle?"

The kid's voice was shrill and peircing, and annoyingly so. It sent a slight shiver up his spine as he turned to enter the Pokemon Gym in the Iron Mines city.

He turned to face the boy, his cloak whirling about him. He stood at least two feet taller than him.

He gave a snort of revulsion. "You don't want to try it, kid. My Pokemon have probably eaten Pokemon bigger than yours."

The kid clenched his fists. "You talk big enough, but can you prove yourself in a match? Battle me!" he shouted.

Suddenly, he was interested. If he showed this amount of barvery to people twice his size, his Pokemon must be pretty formidable.

"Alright kid, you're on."

The kid pulled the rim of his baseball cap to round the back of his head. "I'm no kid. Let's go!"

He hurled a Pokeball into the air and it burst open. White light erupted out and formed a shape on the ground. A Tyranitar roared loudly, sending a rumble through the ground.

The man stepped back slightly. How could a kid so young have a monster so powerful? Regaining his composure, he grabbed a Pokeball from his waist and threw it forwards.

"Blade, go!"

A white dog-like creature appeared and growled fiercely at the Tyranitar- an Absol.

"Tyranitar, Hyper Beam!"

The monstrous creature reared its head back as flecks of yellow energy began flowing into its mouth.

Absol closed its eyes.

"Blade, counter with Blizzard now!"

A cold wind blew about the makeshift battle arena on the steps of the Gym. It grew in intensity, sending a piercing chill through both combatants' bodies.

The Hyper Beam fired, and the Blizzard completely enveloped the blast, the snow turning to steam.

"Now, Thunder!"

A phenomenal Lightning Bolt shrieked from the sky and thundered into Tyranitar. It shook violently for a fe seconds, and then collapsed unconscious. The kid stood in awe at the move- Tyranitar shouldn't have been brought down so easily. He'd been training it to resist Electric attacks since he had him.

"The Blizzard increased yout Pokemon's conductivity. It was easy to defeat." The man said with a note of irritation in his voice. He indicated an armband on his left arm, with a small pink 'R' imprinted onto it.

"If you weren't on such a tight schedule I'd take him from you right now. He deserves a real trainer."

He turned away and strode into the Gym, smiling to himself.

Darkness enveloped the battle field, closing in steadily, but all the more terrible due to its slow, purposeful course. In the middle of the arena stood an Alakazaam, engaged in a futile attempt to keep the pressing darkness away from itself.

"Light Screen isn't going to save you fool..." laughed a voice in the darkness.

The psychic on the opposite end of the arena shivered. Clearly, he was mistaken when he thought he could take this stranger on. A strange pokemon... one he had never seen... He suddenly saw a thin shaft of light projected onto his Alakazaam from the infinite darkness. Almost instantly, the light screen weakened, the darkness flowing in with increased power.

"Confuse Ray...." snickered the voice yet again.

Before the psychic was able to shout a command, the darkness completely engulfed the battle field, followed shortly by a distant, spine-chilling sound, quiet and macabre. The psychic felt the link between himself and the pokemon weaken drastically, and then felt nothing. The darkness cleared, and the trainer opposite of him stood holding a great ball, humming lightly. Alakazaam was there, lying on the ground, its spoons beaten out of its hands, its psychic powers were evidently ineffective against its opponent.....

"You lose..."

The trainer turned around, and before the psychic could call out, was swallowed up in the foggy mist.

Starr sat with Mika, the talking Poochyena that followed her. She sighed as she listened to the music that pumped in her ears. She looked down to Mika and scratched the back of her ears. Mika smiled as she felt the nice feel of the scratch. When Starr stopped, Mika stood up and looked up at her.

"Where should we go next, Starr?" Mika had asked.
"Hmm. I don't know. But we should get on. I'm bored with Cerulean City. I want to go to Blackthorn City. That's where the Dragon pokemon are, am I correct?" Starr asked Mika as she reached for Salamence's pokeball.
"Yes. That is correct. You're going there?" Mika asked.
"That's right. Salamence." Starr said as she lightly threw the pokeball into the air. A large Salamence appeared. "Let's fly to Blackthorn City."

The Salamence roared and waited as Starr and Mika got onto its back. When they did, it flew up into the air with its wings and flew off towards the Johto Islands. Starr let the air hit her face. When they flew over, they could see many different pokemon. They landed in Blackthorn City. Starr sighed and got off of Salamence. She returned Salamence to its ball and looked to Mika.

"We're here. What should we do?" Starr asked the Poochyena.
"Find trainers. Battle them and defeat them." Mika had said.
"Right. Let's go." Starr had said.

Starr walked a little ways before turning onto the Route that led into Blackthorn. When she did, a trainer ran to her. She looked to the trainer. He wasn't much.

"I want to battle you!" The trainer had said.
"Alright. I'll bet you I can beat you with just one pokemon." Starr had said.
"You're on. Go, Chinchou!" The trainer had said.
"Hmm. Chinchou, huh? A Water/Electric pokemon. Then I guess I should go with this pokemon." Starr said as she took out Fylgon's pokeball.
"And what pokemon is that?" The trainer had asked.
"Heh. Go, Flygon!" Starr had said as she threw the pokeball.
"FRIGON!" The Flygon had said.
"Ah! Flygon! We can do this. Chinchou, use Water Gun!" The Trainer said.

The Chinchou jumped forward a little and shot out a stream of water towards the Flygon, luckily the Flygon did not get hit. It dodged out of the way.

"Grr. Come on, Chinchou! Use Water Gun again and hit him!" The Trainer had said.
"Flygon, dig." Starr said nonchallantly.

The Flygon obeyed and flew up a little and dove right into the ground. It dug a hole. The Chinchou looked around nervously for the Flygon that was no where to be found. The Trainer as well as getting anxious. Starr smirked and gave the signal.

"NOW!" Starr had exclaimed.

Suddenly, the Flygon had hit the Chinchou and sent it flying backwards. Flygon flew back to Starr. It floated above her head. It seemed that Chinchou was out. The Trainer ran to it and held it. He returned it to its pokeball and reached for his last pokeball.

"Grr. You're going to pay for that." The Trainer had said angrily.
"Oh, am I? It seems that you are just too much of a rookie. Give me your best shot." Starr had said to the young trainer.
"Alright. You asked for it. Go, Lapras! Use Confuse Ray!" The trainer shouted.
"Flygon, take the hit and then if you can, use Crunch." Starr said calmly.

Lapras shot a ray of confusion and it hit the Flygon. Flygon stood there for a moment. There was suspension in the air. Both parties waited to see what would happen next, whether the Flygon would use Crunch or not.

Mika watched intently. Her ears were pricked at attention. She barked encouragement at Flygon to fight the Confuse Ray.Flygon looked up and used the Crunch attack on Lapras but it was slightly weaker because Flygon was confused.

Mika barked happily. She smelt something strange in the air.She raised her nose to the air and sniffed carefully. It smelt like smoke.Mika followed the smell.Starr saw her going off and called out.

"Mika!Where are you going?"
"I smell smoke!!"Her ears pricked up and heard screaming and yells for help."And people are crying out for help!!"

Mika ran as fast as she could using her agility to help her.She zigzagged to go faster.Soon she arrived at the scene. There was a thick blanket of smoke in the area.Mika's sensitive nose itched and she sneezed. She saw what the cause was. There were several buildings and houses on fire. There were people inside screaming for help.Trainers with bird pokemon tried to rescue them but the birds wouldn't go near the fire.Trainers with Water pokemon tried to extinguish the flames but they were too big.

Mika ran back to Starr and told her what was happening.Starr told the trainer that they would have to wait and Starr released Salamance.Starr withdrew Flygon and jumped onto Salamance with Mika. They took off to the area.

Salamance went up and rescued several people before putting them on the ground.Nurse Joy and several Chanseys and Blisseys were at the bottom nursing those who were rescued. Most had smoke inhalation.

Starr released Feraligator to help put out the fires. After quite a long time the fires were out and everyone had been rescued and were being taken care of by Nurse Joy.

Starr withdrew Feraligator and then herself and Mika got on Salamance and returned to the trainer. It was time to finish the battle.Starr returned Salamance and released Flygon again.

I made up the fire because I had nothing to type about. No one knows who did it.

Mai waited impatiently at the corner of a street many thought to be abandoned. Little did they know it was one of the secret headquarters for TR2. She pulled a sheet of paper out of her pocket and read it to her Growlithe, Cracker, for what seemed like the millionth time.
Miss Mai-
There is a new recruit coming today. We have a tip that they may be a spy for Team Rocket. Your instructions are to meet this person near the Cianwood base at noon. Your objective is to find out whether or not they have any connections to Team Rocket. Even if you find nothing leading to that conclusion, handle this one with the utmost caution.
It was signed by one of the lower generals. Mai crumpled the paper and shoved it back in her pocket, extremely annoyed. She was one of the top officers in TR2, and nearly unbeatable in a battle. And yet they insisted on giving her rookie legwork. On top of all that, the suspected spy was late. She turned to Cracker, who rubbed her leg. "They're not coming. Let's go." She turned to leave, when a voice stopped her. "Wait. I think I'm the one you're waiting for." She saw a short girl out of the corner of her eye, with an Eevee perched on her shoulder. "TR2, if I'm not mistaken." she said simply, rubbing the Eevee behind its ears. "Indeed." Mai replied, intrigued. Why would one so young join the team? She looked quite innocent, especially with her Eevee nuzzling her. "What's your name? And how old are you?" Mai asked sharply. "My name's Genim, and I'm 16" the girl answered. Mai was startled. The same age she was. You couldn't tell these days. "Very well then, let's get going, Genim."

Flygon was out of the confusion. It shook its head and focused on the Lapras. The Lapras' trainer began to worry. He couldn't back out and Flygon seemed strong. He was going to wing it.

"Alright, Lapras. Use Ice Beam!" The young trainer had exclaimed.
"Flygon, dig." Starr said nonchallantly.

Flygon flew a little in the air and then flew straight down to the ground and dug into the earth. The Ice Beam was sent towards where the Flygon was, but it missed. The trainer was a little nervous again. This time Flygon circled around Lapras. Having an idea, the Trainer shouted something.

"Lapras! When the Flygon comes out, use your Ice Beam on it!"
"Flygon, surface!" Starr had exclaimed.

The Flygon was behind the Lapras and it hit the Lapras' face when it flew out. This knocked the Lapras off guard. It gave Flygon enough time to use a stronger attack. This also gave Starr an idea.

"Hyper Beam, now!" Starr said suddenly.
"Lapras, Ice Beam!" The Trainer had said as well.

The two powered their attacks. Lapras' ice beam glowed a bright blue and Flygon's Hyper Beam glowed a bright yellow. When the two shot out at each other, they left a trail. When the two hit, it seemed that the two struggled to hit the other. But it was Flygon's Hyper Beam that split the ice beam and hit Lapras.

"NO! Lapras!" The trainer shouted as he ran to his Lapras. "Good job. You deserve a rest."
"You did good kid. Hey, know where I can find Claire?" Starr had asked.
"Yeah, come with me." The kid had answered.

Starr followed the child into the city and walked around a bit with him until they came upon a gym. She smiled at the gym. This was where she had begun before she went back. It was a beautiful day. She smiled at this sight and stepped in, not knowing what to expect.

The cloaked man strode silently into the Pokemon Gym. He walked straight past the Reception Desk. The woman standing there barely noticed him as he moved. She looked round in time to see his shadow disappearing round a corner. Shrugging it off, she went back to her work.

He came to a small room at the back, where a muscular man was leaning against a wall, chewing a toothpick nervously.

He spat it out of his mouth as soon as the shadowy figure came into view.

"Took you long enough. I thought you guys were never late," he growled, grabbing hold of the towel around his shoulders and tugging it anxiously.

The man stared deeply into his eyes. "We arrive when we need to arrive. We are never late," his voice was barely more than a whisper, but the authority in it made the man tremble slightly.

"Do you have it?"

The Gym Leader flustered slightly, then produced a large padded envelope from the ground next to him.

"It's all there." he muttered through gritted teeth.

The cloaked man wiped some of his orange hair away from his forehead and felt the weight of the package.

"Are you sure?" he sneered. "It seems a little light to me."

The man stepped backwards, his eyes widening in fear. "W-what do you mean? I got him everything he wants? What more can I give?"

The cloaked man whipped a sharp knife from his pocket and thrust it towards the man's neck.

"It pays to give a little extra if you know what's good for you," he hissed.

The man flicked another envelope from his pocket and it landed at the Rocket member's feet. He slowly reached down for it and slipped it into his jacket.

"A pleasure doing business with you."

With a wave of his cloak, he vanished. The man wiped his face with the towel and swore under his breath. How did he get into these situations?

* * *

The door to the roof of the Gym burst open and he stepped outside, his cloak blowing about him in the wind. he jabed a button on a device on his wrist and hissed into it.

"Gen, where are you? I've picked up the package. We need to get back to Giovanni."

No answer.

He punched the button again. "Dammit, Gen! If you can hear me, meet me by the train station at the Iron Mines in five minutes."

He produced a small grappling hook from his pocket and fired it at a wall in the distance. It shot into the brickwork like a knife through butter and held fast. Giving it a quick test tug, he leapt off the roof of the Gym and swung into the streets...

Stepping into the gym, Starr looked around. Dragon pokemon flew everywhere. Smiling, she saw Claire and she walked to her.

"Claire." Starr had said.
"Starr! It's nice to see you again. Helping TR2, are we?" Claire had replied.
"Yes. You should know that I am a great pokemon trainer now. Salamence, Flygon, Feraligator, Charizard, Tropius, and...well. That pokemon is to stay unknown for now. But the rest are quite well and they are stronger than the average leveled pokemon." Starr had explained.
"Excellent. Maybe you want to be Gym Leader for a day, then?" Claire had asked.
"Gym leader?" Starr was surprised.
"Yeah. You've always dreamed of becoming a gym leader. You can battle any trainer that comes here and it'll be under your rules, how about that?" Claire explained.
"That would be great. Battles will be 5-on-5, no limit. And, the it will be placed on the roof of the gym. I will have the upper hand at most." Starr had said.

Nodding, Claire led Starr to the training area in the back. Young pokemon trainers were with their pokemon and they were being trained. Oh, how the days of the young were flooding Starr's memories.
