ChibiHorsewoman
Love 'em or hate 'em. We either have 'em or don't, but maybe we've also thought about getting one or more.:D For example, I have a small one on my left shoulder blade and it;s the Japanese Character for equestrian, The next ones I'll get will be the names of my children:love: So who has them, who doesn't and what is everyone's opinion on the matter? The (Sic) Shape
I like tattoos becuase I got a few too. I have the japanese character of 'life' on the top of my left hand and the japanese character of 'death' on the top of my other hand. I also have the SlipKnot 'S' on my left forearm. I'm planning to get a snake that will curling around my entire right arm, the tail starting from my shoulder and the mouth ending on my palm. Pagan
I also love tatoos! I have two but I can't tell you what one it says. It is in chinese (kanji I guess) and its Eminems favorite curse word with another curse word after it. The other one is a ode to my friends. We all have the same tatoo just with little difference between them. I'm thinking about getting a yin on one palm of my hand and yang on the other and when I put my hands together they will form a complete one, or maybe a dragon. My mom says that it is my body and I can do whatever I want to it so I could cover myslef in tatoos if I liked.

destro53
My thoughts on tattoos? To get one, you are clearly lacking any form of intelegence. The only person I've EVER approved getting a tattoo was a guy that was having his left leg amputated, so to make sure they took the right one, he got a tattoo. Actually Chibi's isnt that bad, just mildly stupid. Other than that it makes no sense. You now have a permanent mark on you. Say it's for a band. Slipknot is actually an excellent example. Basically for all eternity you will have a mark on that basically says 'I hate the world'. That's great. Really. Here's a thought- When you grow up, have kids, get old, then die, you are going to be buried with a Slipknot symbol on you. That's going to be a moving eulogy I'm sure. '(insert your name) was a great person. He/She hated the world so much. It was touching his dedication to trying so hard to be different. As long as his friends were being 'unique' with him.' KarmaOfChaos
I don't love them, nor do I hate them. I personally would never get a tattoo because, like destro said, that mark is on your body forever, unless you decide to get it removed and have an ugly scar there. I've seen certain tattoos that were really beautiful, and I can see people getting them. Or maybe you want to proclaim your dedication to a band, or something of the like. I just would never be comfortable with getting one, because I might not like it later on, and then I'm stuck. But I don't think any less of people that do. Au contrair, some tattoos look quite cool. ^-~ Basically, I don't have a problem with it. -Karma
Shinken
Myself, I was thinking of getting a yin-yang on one shoulder, and the sign from the Disturbed 'Prayer' CD on the other. Then, I might get a line of kanji going down my spine. Maybe an oriental dragon in a circle on my outer ankle. One thing I am definitely going to get is the kanji for water on my left hand, and the one for fire on my right.
Kwai
I personally hate tattoos. They revolt me, though I really cannot see why. I guess I find the concept of painting your body permanently disgusting as well as pointless. Besides, what if you come to hate the symbol or drawing or whatever you had tattooed onto your body? You're going to have to live with it for the rest of your life. Or like Karma said, you can remove it and live with an ugly scar. Either way, I can't imagine myself getting them, nor do I see the point.

Second, true, some people don't out much thought into their ink (ie, my husband who has a girl shooting a teddybear on his shoulder blade just because he could), but others think a while before doing so. I waited an entire year before I got my 'mildly stupid' tattoo. And my brother designed his. Some people get tattoos to commemorate people they've lost, or their loved ones or children. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that some people actually make decisions before they ink themselves. Even if they aren't always the best ones. Epid3mic
I was thinking of getting a "Z?" on one shoulder and an irken symbol on the other. Right now I'm too young for a tatoo to go lightly with my parents. As for tatoos being stupid...meh. I don't see how ink on your skin can really affect your brain in any way, but okay. Kanariya
I can't get real tattoos yet, I am only eleven. But to answer your question, I LOVE tattoos. For now I have fake tattoos of egyptian lettering, animals, etc. But they never come off of my skin, so it's kind of irritating. I have this giant blue/green/gold peacock one that I am wearing last since it's so pretty. If I do get a real tattoo, it will be probably writing (I'm not sure yet) or a heart with little stars in it, the stars representing my children, and the stars will be colored in the birthstone color of my children.

honeychan03
I got my first tattoo when I was 19. My mom was really mad at me when I did but she eventually got over it. I have 3 now. 2 are roses and the Japanese symbol of dream on my ankle. My daughter said that mother's are not supposed to have tattoes....but that she loves me anyway. ChibiHorsewoman
My borther's ex-girlfriend's mother took him to this sleazy guy down the block from us and lied about his age (he was only 17 at the time and in NYS you can't get a tattoo or any other peircing besides your ears even with parent's permission) without asking my mom. He came home with a NY(Yankees symbol) that needs to be re-inked. Needless to say she was p.oed about that one. My bro designed his second one (A scorpion with an Irish flag behind it) and my mom got it for him back in June when he graduated from high school. On the other hand I had mine done all legal like and my mom got it for me as a birthday present. My husband got his first one the day he turned 18 and it's an upside down cross intertwined with Barbed wire on his shoulder. His favorite one (out of six) is the voodoo doll he designed himself on his forearm. Of course, the guy is also really vain and has his own name tattooed on his neck in kanji. So who am I to say anything?
RPCrazy
As long as you're being responsible, tattoos can be a wonderful and beautiful thing. Example: To make a long story short, my mother has a best friend. This best friend is like a second mother to me...many of you probably know I go to GA every summer to live with her and her family. Again, long story short she turned 40 the Summer of '02 and thought it was ridiculous that most 40 yr. old women go around complaining. She threw this big neighborhood bash for herself (her "It's Fabulous To Be Forty Fiesta") and as a special B-day present to herself got a tattoo. Now this has been something she's been thinking about doing for years, finally deciding on a small bit of art called "The Dragonlady"...a fairy-like woman with dragonfly wings (Sheryl has a thing for dragonflies) and the Circle of Eternity (I believe it's called) for her face. Lovely little piece of work, the guy who inked it onto her was completely legal and sterile and all that good stuff. Now, go back a couple of years to when I was about 8 (gah, why do I feel like I've typed this story out before? Oh well, it's relevant), my mom was working with this woman who refused for years to allow her daughter to get a tattoo. "Please Mom, please? All I want is this tiny little angel on my left and this tiny little devil on my right. That's all." Well, it took some poking and prying, but her mother finally signed the release papers and offer the daughter went to get her tattoos..... She came home with her name (a good 5 or 6 letter name) inked in blood red Gothic lettering 1 inch high across the back of her neck. Like I said, responsibility is the key with tattoos. My own view? I'm very interested in tattoos. Not just today's modern stuff (which can be just down right cool looking), but even back to when they were symbols of respect and used in ceremonies of worship. That's actually how I personally see any tattoo that I look at. "Do I want that to become a symbol of who I am? My own personal offering to my soul?" Granted, I'm only almost 19, but I've gone through quite a few ideas. I was once going to have this girl at my school draw up a combination symbol of dragon, the moon, and my Zodiac symbol Pisces. They're three symbols that have always been important to me in my life...but she never got back to me with any sketches, so out the window that went. >_< Currently I'm looking at the Auryn. The Never Ending Story influenced my life in so many ways; I focus on it and I can trace ideas and fantasies of mine down through the years back to when I was 4 and sitting there watching that movie. And even when I was little I was mesmerized by the symbol of the Auryn. If you've never seen it, I suggest you do a search in Google for "The Never Ending Story" to see. Two snakes, eating each other's tails with their entwined bodies creating the symbol of eternity. Gah I wish I could remember the name of that damn thing... >_< Oh well, I'll think of it eventually. Doukeshi
Well, I understand what people are saying about it being there for the rest of your life. What happens if you don't like it after a while or you get old and it looks horrible? Well my answer to that is it's up to the individual, if they want to get a tattoo then that's their choice really. All I can say is if you're going to get a tattoo get something remotely original. Japanese/Chinese symbols are so overused as are the yin and yang thing, devils and angels on shoulders, barbed wire, skulls etc. I liek the idea of eyptian things like heiroglyphs and symbols because they aren't that overused an look very nice. I've always been contemplating getting a tattoo but I don't know if I'll ever get one. If I did I'd design my own symbol or something uniquely personal. I'd have it either on the skin between my index finger and thumb or in the middle of my back. Here's a quote for you all to think about, by the most unlikely man to say it, Ozzy Osbourne "If you want to be original don't get a tattoo. Everyone and their ****ing granny has a tattoo." the_fizz
I love them and have one on my right should. It is for my son and his conception. It is a little heart with a sword going thru it and a rose growing out of it with a drop of blood at the end of the stem. You see my son?s father and I have a bittersweet relationship. He broke my heart and yet a wonderful thing (my son) came out of it. I want to add my son?s name ~ Joseph Alexander ~ around it some day (just want to get the right lettering to go with it!) I took a while before getting it because I believe that a tattoo should be with some meaning behind it. THE FIZZ :wigout:
dark king
i make drawings that could be good tattoos (i think) i experiment with a pen on my arm making some nice tribal work and it looks good after the finnishing touch. if i would do them for real it would cost me about $400 so i prefer to stick with the pen. but tattoos are good if hidden a bit like on your schoulder. i practice on my lower arm(left) because that`s easier to reach. but tattoos are cool. Kagome 1
I like tattoos, but I have heard that they really hurt. When I'm older I'll get a real tattoo. It'll be a tattoo of an angel that has a blue dress and original white wings with long hair.
ChibiHorsewoman
Originally posted by Kagome 1 I like tattoos, but I have heard that they really hurt.
It depends on where on your body you get the tattoo and how intricite the design of your tattoo is. I have a small tattoo of the character for equestrian on my shoulderblade. It just felt like a small bee-sting. My eyebrow ring hurt more. On the other hand, my husband has a tattoo of a girl shooting a teddybear in the same place I have mine and he had to take a break from his because it hurt so bad. Also, anywhere where it's right on the bone (ie, your ankle) hurts more than say your upper arm. and don't think of getting one while you're under the influence since alcohal makes your blood thinner and you bleed more. Yes, I said bleed. They put a needle in you, thru the skin and put pigment right into your skin so of course it bleeds. They have you put gauze on it for an hour afterwards. But it's nothing bad, only spotting. There, I think I either eased your fears or scared you more. My job here is done.
