JESUS TAP-DANCING CHRIST THE FILE I TRIED TO DO SAID IT WAS INVALID AND WHEN I CLICKED BACK TO CHANGE IT EVERYTHING I HAD WRITTEN WAS ERASED!!! ARGHH!H!!!!

But anways read this editorial I wrote for my application to the school newspaper.

I had written about my experience and how unfair I think it is.... I was mad writing it and now I am even more upset....

EDIT:
ugh, I'll just briefly explain what I said:

I went to the movies yesterday with my friend and we couldn't get tickets for an R-rated movie and the people were very condescending and obnoxious even though they had no idea what they were talking about. Even, in some instances, when my mom buys tickets for me and a friend they won't let us in. I am only 3 months away from being 17 and I highly doubt I am going to get more mature in the next 3 months.

Oh, and I talked about how enforcing the MPAA Recommended Ratings is entirely voluntary and it's not the law to enforce them it's just bad parenting that leads the media to be blamed for everything bad kids do. It's all Tipper Gores fault. :flaming:

You should write an epilogue where Alice proceeds to download the movie of Kazaa >)

I know how you feel. I couldn't see the The Matrix Revolutions friday night because I'm fifteen. I went saturday morning with my father. I didn't really mind though, I just wanted to see TM:R. But really, it's not the movie theatres fault. With movies, especially popular ones like The Matrix where younger kids are more prone to try to sneak in, the theatre can get in trouble if some kid sneaks and their parents sue when they find out their child saw some sex. It may be unfair to us, but alot of kids have very over-protective parents, and the theatre is just trying to protect themselves.

You don't see porn theaters or websites getting sued by parents because their kids snuck in/browsed it and then started screwing everyone like "they did in the movie."

The parents should know where their kids are and what they are doing. It should be their responsibility to teach them right and wrong.

This is where one would buy a ticket to a different movie, and just go into the one you actually want to see.

I have never had a problem with it, really. One of my friend's mom was always really cool and took us to R-rated movies when we were younger. *shrugs* The theaters never had a problem with it.

However, I understand what you are are saying, and I do agree that theaters should be much more selective with those rules. They should use better judgement and such. Obviously if there are people who are of age, but act immaturly about the movie they are seeing (like you exemplified in your editorial) they obviously cannot stop them. Although, if the person is younger and seems to be naive I would deny them the priveldge to see the movie, but collected, mature people should be allowed in.

If all else fails, then go with a parent. *shrugs* The people cannot, and would not want to, argue with a parent accompanying their child to the movie.

I totally agree with you. It just gets me so angree though. Especially the people that work at Landmark Theaters- Bethesda Row. It's like an overly commercialized theater that plays indies. The people that work there are so ignorant and know nothing about film. They are also very condescending.

If I were to make a movie later on in life and the MPAA was either A) going to stamp it with an R or B) make me edit it just to get an R rating I would say: "Screw you, I'm going to release it just in Europe then!!!! :twitch:
