Ghettopoly

I find it hilarious. I took one look at the board and broke three ribs from the horrible laughs that broke out. I soon had a store full of people staring at me as I rolled around, tears streaming down my face. Then I heard about the lawsuit. That sickened me. Americans are just weird. We tend to make a big deal of nonexistant racism. Blacks (I refuse to call the African-American while they are calling me white, and/or racial slang like 'cracker') are obsessed with how evil the white man is. This game was meant as a joke, and I found it hilarious. Welcome to the world of freedom of speech. Don't like it? Move to some third world country.

I`m African American...well mixed actually and I thought the game was funny. So did my friends. Hmm... I guess some people don`t find things like that funny, Oh well.I laugh at a lot of things that I think is funny, people think I`m crazy.

I heard about the game a while ago. I thought it was pretty funny and they were having more series comming out about the other races. I wantedt to get it but I figured it wouldn`t last long because people would start complaining about it, saying it`s racist.

I was supreised when I heard the guy that made the game was being sued because of copyright laws.I thought he would be sued for being racist, even thought the guy wasn`t racist. The company that own`s Monopoly sued saying he stoled the name and the name was copyrighted or something on that order.

I guess that means the rest of the games aren`t comming out. Now I have to change my christmas shopping list.

im not an african american but i dont see why its racist. this is what therei race is leading the public to believe that they are Gangstas" and grew up in the "hood". just look at rappers, all they rap about is growin up in the "hood". so when a game comes along that makes fun of that then they should be able to take it. everyone has to laugh at them selves once and a while

I think this is a case of where worrying about being politically correct goes too far.
I'm not black (of course I;'m also not white-more of a beigeish peach color really) But I don't see what the big problem is. If you want to make everything all even and PC looking again-just make a Yuppiopoly and see if the same thing happens.

Why would it matter if you were African American or not? I guess it a common mis-conception that all African Americans are people are poor, and that the "ghetto" is exclusive to them. It's true that a lot of African Americans are poor, but so are white people, mexicans, and other minorities.

I don't mind the game, I don't find it funny, because it's stupid. But I don't find it offesive, because I'm not uptight.

The creator says many of the same things. His reasoning makes sense to me, but I'm hardly amused or remotely interested in this game.

I think it looks hilarious. I also think it's an original idea. I read what he had to say on his website and I totally agree. I don't think the game is racist at all, just because it has the stereotype of blacks and the whole gangster thing. But it can't be shut down even if it is racist, because there are way more racist people like comedians, musicians, etc and they aren't hassled at all.

I don't know exactly what this is. An explanation would have been great, but I think I get the gist of it... They made a boardgame similar to Monpoly, but using Ghettos instead. A parody of Monopoly, using Ghettos and African-Americans as its' joke.

I don't see the problem... I don't know what kind of subjects it covers, but as long as it isn't highly racist or something, as long as it isn't nasty, then I don't see any problem. Stereotypes are there to use, providing you don't get carried away. Peple should just relax, it is a game, nothing more.

On the flip-side it could insult some poeple.

I also think this guy is just capitalising on Monopoly's game. But then again, Monoply shouldn't have a monopoly on everything. [Do you get it or not?]. lol. Maybe if this guy has copied nearly everything about the monoply game, then he should have found a way to make it unique... I don't know.

Basically, the idea of the game is good, and amusing, but I think he shouldn't use something else's reputation to further his own capitalist schemes.

Heh.

Yeah ... basically, I think it's dumb. It reminds me a lot of the Abercrombie & Fitch scandal. (They're a clothing brand that made these T-shirts that capitalized on the stereotype of Chinese laundry shops. Or something along those lines.) I'm Chinese and the A&F thing kind of upset me for ... about half a second. Then I was just like, whatever, it's a stereotype, and people are going to say things like that no matter what.

Part of me still thinks it's wrong for actual companies to promote those stereotypes and make money off of them. So I'd never buy it (in addition to the fact that I don't find either product particularly funny).

Yeah, that's what I was about to post, heh. Ghetto (not ghetoo :p) was originally a term applied to Jews who lived in a poor area of a city and not African-Americans. If I'm not mistaken, ghetto is a Yiddish, not English, term.

Anyway, the game hardly holds my interest. The only different version of Monopoly I've bought is Star Wars Monopoly and that's only because I'm a huge Star Wars geek. Though, if there was ever a Nintendopoly, I'd probably snatch that up, too...

I know what you mean Shinmaru. I think it's just some kind of martketing ploy myself. Of course, this is the same person who plays Pokemon Monopoly and always has to be Charizard. SO what does that say about me.

"You go yo' whole neighborhood addicted to crack! You win $50."

*coughs*

I read it in Newsweek on the page where they put all the ironic and stupid quotes people make. [This wasn't on the quote page, but there was this one article on Britney Spears. Britney said she was getting into Indian religion, and when asked one of them was the Hindu religion, she had no idea what it was. Bravo, Ms. Spears.]

ANYWAYS, I think the whole idea of Ghettopoly is a stupid rip-off of Monopoly for random white kids in the rich suburbs who wished they were black.

One of my favorite qoutes on racism is, "The most blessed person in this world today is the person that can't tell the difference between white and black." ~Anonymous

I think some people are just too sensitive about everything, it's a little game meant to be fun, ever heard of live and let live.
People just need to lighten up and just forget their prejudices whatever they might be, because when it comes down to it we are all the same thing. Human beings and children of God.

Well that was my two cents....

I don't know about this game. It may be harmless, but it can get people to start thinking negatively about Black people and make them rely even more on stereotypes. Yeah, so what if most black rappers rap about drugs and being 'gangstas'. That means that's what they do. That doesn't describe the whole race. When I saw the game, I laughed too, but when I thought about it I found that it's sad how someone can target a certain race (any race) and make fun of it based on how they see other people of that race act. No one takes into consideration how the world thinks. There are some weirdos out there that will take the game seriously.

Maybe the guy was targeting rappers to poke fun of. Personally, I wouldn't play it. I find things like this tasteless.
