Suggestion: Fanfics and Poems.

I think it would be a good idea if the "Poetry, Fanfiction, and Literature" section could be split up into two different sub forums...

1) = Poetry and Literature
2) = Fanfiction

Although it may not seem like much, I think this would be very beneficial in the fact that many fanfics are often overlooked and "pushed off of the front page" withe the abundance of poems that are being posted. Really here's the main thing people may spend a great deal of time writing a fanfic but it doesn't get noticed because of all the poems that are posted after it thus pushing the thread with the fanfic to the bottom of the page, or on to the second page. Basically while some of the poems written are good, other's are written out of boredom and just for the hell of it and I don't think it's quite fair that many of these fanfics are not being noticed -_o... Well let's see that's not really how I wanted my argument to come out... hmmm... I'm too busy to reword it right now but as soon as I can put my thoughts into words i'll be sure to edit this post -_-. But please take this into consideration, at the moment I feel that is somewhat pointless to post fanfics because of the lack of replies, on the other hand if the section was divided into a specefic fanfics sub-forum then i'm sure that more attention would be payed towards all fanfics in general... (hmmm... still didin't come out the way I wanted it to... :therock:). Well you guys get the jist of it...

I find that very few comments are posted on poetry or fanfiction threads anyway. If someone is wanting to read fanfiction then they will search through the threads to find what they are looking for.

However, I think that a division would be a good thing in that forum. Even if it's between a forum for actual discussion and a forum for your own personal works of poetry or fiction.

Sara and I tried getting people to label things a bit more clearly... such as saying what sort of writing it is in the title (poems, stories, fanfictions etc), but not many people have done it. I think it would have helped make the area appear a bit more neat and it would definitely make it easier to search for what you wanted in there.

I always thought that an overabundance of people fail to just place their poem in the sticky that says "Today's Poem". Instead they just create a thread for each individual poem they write, and, if they are lucky, they get one response before it is recycled to the next page.

I really don't care that most of the fanfics are getting pushed to the next page, mainly because many of them are absolutly horrible. I just think that it would be nice for members to get as much notice and recognition as possible for their work.

HC brings up a good point, here.

Most of the fanfics on OB are dreadful. The faster they get pushed down, the better. No offence to anyone who writes fanfic, but...yeah. It's generally understood that most fanfic is filled with blah dialogue, outright ridiculous premises, and god-awful narrative structure.

I've only seen 5 fanfics in my life that had any semblance of intelligence, and they weren't "true fanfics," either; they were wide satires, encompassing many topics and incorporating them in a way that made sense. The characters weren't lumped together for the sake of the story; the characters were together for a reason.

Characters out of story, not story out of characters.

Plus, considering fanfic uses pre-made and often fully drawn characters, to think one can squeeze some unseen, never-before-realized depth of the characters is preposterous.

I don't see the need for a separate forum for fanfic. Creating multiple forums would just create a need for more Mods, and I don't think Mitch would enjoy patrolling two boards that could easily be one, lol.

I'm not a Mod, though, so I can't offer any further insight than that.

There's also the factor that the Poetry and Fanfiction Lounge is slow enough as it is. Seperating it into two would only make each more stagnant.

And it's my expirience that fanfiction actually gets more replies than poetry, because people relate to the characters. Sometime the fanfiction is really bad, but people will usually find something good in it to focus on.

However, many people get fed up with poetry because there are so many threads there.

The people who write the poetry don't post in the poetry of the day thread because they get no feedback from it.

So my advice is don't worry about it. If you see a fanfiction that you like, review. The same goes for any other piece of work. The writer greatly appreciates it.
