Semjaza
I know some people here like The Cure, specifically Anatema... heh. Anyway, they're one of my favorite bands. I'm not well versed in their history, but pretty much every release of theirs has a few classic songs on it. It's odd how long they've been around too... they're one of those bands your parents probably listened to at one point in time. Personally, my favorite release of their's is what Smith (the vocalist) claims is their last release -- Bloodflowers. I know many other people choose stuff from far earlier in their career, but this CD has a special place for me for whatever reason. The whole thing is just so depressing and beautiful, although at times it is slightly reassuring. Some of the songs are a bit long by most rock standards, but they're all pulled off very well. I never get the sense that any are longer than they should be. My favorite tracks on the CD are Bloodflowers, Maybe Someday, The Last Day of Summer and particularly 39. That song is amazing on so many levels. You can really feel the emotion in these songs... the entire CD really. I wish all Cure releases were that involved. Anyway, when it gets cold out I tend to listen to totally different music than when it's nicer out. So no fast upbeat music like Apocalypse Hoboken for the most part. These guys are one of the bands that fill that void, along with The Smiths, Menomena, Modest Mouse, Mogwai and random others. So any other fans? wrist cutter
I haven't heard a lot of The Cure but everything I have, I really liked. Especially "Fascination Street", that's good stuff right there. At one point I was all gung ho about that... I don't know what happened there. I think I couldn't find any of their music and so I gave up quickly.
Semjaza
Shouldn't be all that hard to find most of it. I've grabbed most of my collection of their stuff at used CD stores. I love those places. There's always that Greatest Hits collection that came out somewhat recently... I'm not a fan of collections because they always leave great stuff out and generally choose the edited single versions... plus most CD should be played in their entirety. But it is a good stepping stone.
PiroMunkie
I have only heard a handful of random songs, but from what I have heard they are definitely a favorite of mine. I have been meaning to go out and buy an album or two of theirs for some time now, but (a) I am lazy/do not have any way to get anywhere and (b) I am cheap/have no money at the time. I have heard a lot of good things about Bloodflowers, so that is definitely one I would be checking into. Since it is coming close to Christmas I am asking for it (among the many other CD's I am asking for >.>) and hoping for the best, heh. My theory revolves around that I have three separate Christmases - one with my mom, one with my dad, and one with my dad's side of the family. I am bound to get it from one of them. >.> Of course, that is what I thought about The Nightmare Before Christmas. Meh ... But yes, the Cure are excellent. I find this topic odd concidering I was just listening to them when I found it. o_O
future girl
O mah gawd Tony, O mah gawd, it's The Cure!!! O how I love them, really love is not even strong enough of a word. They're one of those bands I've been listening to since I was seven. Hell, my sister even nicknamed me Roberta Smith for a while. It's a passion I have for them, the fear of dying without seeing them in concert is something that scares me. Right now I am listening to Wild Mood Swings. Jupiter Crash is one of the songs I like the most. It's extremely depressing, a reaccount of a lost virginity. Smith has this wonderfully melancholic voice, very unique. He does this thing I can't even explain, when he goes for the higher notes it's like he pushes something more out there, something orgasmic ^_^ I haven't been there:(, but I have seen him in concert and the way he flirts with the audience is glorious, as well as the amount of time he comes back for encores. The Cure's songs are very "moment" songs. The type of songs you want to lose your virginity to, lol. They're really great, this post seems to make no sense, I just get so excited at the slightest mention of their name. They are truly Gods among musicians. **I'm reminded of this episode of South Park, good vs. evil, Robert Smith vs. Barbara Streisand, o too true my friends. **
