Transtic Nerve Posted April 5, 2003 Share Posted April 5, 2003 Quite possibly one of the best anime's I've ever seen, although I've not seen much. it was perfect because it was only 13 episodes + uno OVA.... Short enough to contain a valid plot as well as suspence humour, and drama... DRAMA! Thats what made this series so good... that and the fact the plot deal with subjects that aren't exactly thought well upon in Japan or the US for that matter. The whole thing was wonderful. ^-^ The first half of the series was hilarious, and the last half was pretty sad, so it was a good combination. The OVA wasn't too great, in my opinion, though. Shuichi's heart wasn't into singing anymore, and Ryuichi could tell, I guess. O.o; I dunno. And Ryuichi, his total idol, being cold to him like that... I don't [i]hate[/i] it, but I wouldn't kill myself to see it. (To see it dubbed however, now this is another matter entirely...) When Gravi's dubbed, I reckon they're gonna make Shuu-chan a girl though. The Western market being homophobic as they are. But then that takes away half of the point of the whole "forbidden love" angle. They'd need to find another way to make it forbidden or something... I dunno... Anyone wanna contribute to that train of thought...? On the point of favourite characters - my favourite character has to be Ryuichi... He's just a total utter nutball... Its actually pretty good.... and about it being dubbed they arent gonna screw with the characters cuz its not gonna be put on TV! and Right Stuf does a really good job with series like that. So I dont think the dubbed version will be that bad. I've seen other series Right Stuf has done and they left everything the same, only thing was it was english... I've never seen anything that Right Stuff has done. But some of the art in Gravi just screams "girl posture" to me. Like they were preparing for Shuuichi to be dubbed as a girl. I don't think they'll go as far as turning him into a girl...and if they do, they're going to have to cut out the parts where he dresses like a girl. Unless they make him...er..her, dress up as a guy. Which would be wierd. Gravitation was made to be about shounen-ai, and I don't think they can change it. Like, in the beginning where [spoiler] Hiro takes Suichi's pocky and licks it[/spoiler], and when [spoiler]Tatsuha hugs the screen where Ryuichi is singing and then 'molests' Suichi [/spoiler] and a whole bunch of other stuffs. I think the story is great and the music is extremely catchy. It is sentimental at some points and very hilarious at others. I didn't know that it was shonen-ai until I started watching it, but then I became hooked. (I think Dagger did as well, heh) I can't really related to having a relationship with another guy, but other than that I really really like the story. Except the ending. I don't get it. THe anime cut out some of the funniest part of the manga ..the manga has 12 vol.and the anime is only 13 epi. there was alot more character developement in the manga. Ive read up to vol 7 of the manga nd see epi's 1-9 so i dont know how either one ends but i do know its a happy one. The relationship between Yuki and Shuichi is so very heartwarming and tear jerking at the same time. Such brilliantly developed characters with an interesting double plot-line. It's a wonder how anyone can not get hooked on this show. The ending of gravitation [spoiler]Yuki lays to rest his demons about the murder of his teacher and betrayer. He learns to love someone, that someone is shuichi. The singers career is taking off and he has managed to save Yuki's life.[/spoiler] That's that. [/spoiler] I just felt that the series was an enjoyable roller coaster ride that ended in the middle of a loop. I think it ended with a more [spoiler] of a "lady or the tiger" ending.
