So far, I just ended from the episode when Shuichi (whatever how you spell his name), Hiro, and the other guy (yeah, not paying attention -_-), went on that game show. They bleeped out a word, what's Japanese for cat or something. I still don't get it. XD And plus, I wanna get farther in the series, because mentioning of "Yuki's Past", and you know the dramatic stuff will come in then, lots of drama. I love drama. ^_^[/color']
I don't get it either, haha. I'm sure there's probably an explanation for that (not to mention Ryuichi's bad puns) online; the DVDs come with extmremely helpful translators' notes, but if I remember correctly they never mentioned that particular scene. I actually think the game show episode is one of the funniest--after that things gradually start getting more somber.

No, that's not the right way to put it... Let me try again. Although the anime never goes without its share of silly humor, the serious parts steadily become more and more serious (while the comedic parts arguably become more wacky; just wait til you get to the
sumo wrestlers pile-up
gag!).

I can virtually guarantee that you'll enjoy the upcoming drama, especially if you are--like myself--a big Yuki fan. I nearly cried the first time I watched the final episode of this show.
I remember, like coming across some reviews for Vol. 4 of Gravitation, and people said it was the best volume that was ever released. (Manga) I am trying not to read you guys' spoilers, hard to resist.[/color']
Solely because you said that, I went back and re-read volume 4. Whoever told you that was right--it's definitely one of the most important installments of the series. A lot of stuff happens and a lot is revealed about why Yuki acts the way he does. It's also, of course, very amusing... the only thing it's lacking in is K. Be sure to tell me whether or not you like the plot twists. ^_~

i love gravitaion. its the best yaoi anime ever!(well maybe not the BEST but you get my drift) im madly in love with ryuuichi and hiro... i think that's their name... the songs on there are just great. well... yeah... ive only seen little clips of it here and there, but it seems great. my friend (whose a girl) is obsessed with eiri, not sure what she sees in him, but what ever. his just really not that great mostly because all the girls are crazy about him.

Miryoku and ice-kitsune, please clean up your posts a bit--due to the lack of paragraph breaks and clear punctuation, they're not very easy to read.

ice-kitsune, you should probably watch the full series before passing judgment on Yuki. He's a genuinely complex character and can be very difficult to understand--I didn't fully "get" him until I had seen the anime several times and read about three-quarters of the manga. The main problem is that his mental/psychological problems are never clearly articulated in either the anime or the manga; if you pay careful attention, however, it's easy to come to the conclusion that
Yuki has multiple personalities. Obviously the fact that he's named himself after the man he killed could only serve to exacerbate that.
This explains the inconsistencies in his behavior, and the fact that he has such an incredibly hard time handling Shuichi's adoration, not to mention their relationship in general. In my opinion, Yuki is actually a surprisingly selfless character, putting up with Shuichi to the point that
he relives all of his repressed memories and eventually becomes physically ill.
He acts like a complete *** most of the time, but if you consider how much he's suffering, he starts to seem almost kind.

Yeah, I'm also one of the only guys I know who like Gravitation. I showed it to a few friends, and they were turned off to say the least. I think, however, since this came state-side and was a mega sucess, hopefully we'll be seeing more shonen-ai/yaoi titles in the near future. ^_^
Hehe...I'm also very much like Shuitchi, especially after I have a few cans of Pepsi in one sitting.

You know....After watching the anime again, a few weeks ago, (going in with knowing the ending from the start), it amazes me how such a dark and gritty (and sometimes downright heart-wrenching) plot, can be so cleverly hidden in a covering of sweetness and comical goofery. When you really think about it, Gravitation has a deep surreal atmosphere. Maybe this is obvious throughout the show, but I didnt really pick up on the subtitles of it all until my second viewing when I looked beyond the love and music aspect.

Speaking of more shounen-ai... I think that the two-episode Gravitation OVA is supposed to come out some time in the first half of 2005. Its character designs are slightly different from the television show's--Shuichi has red hair, green eyes and generally looks more like his manga self. The animation is markedly better and (at least in certain parts) the shounen-ai content is a bit more pronounced. It also has some fantastic music. So the Gravi OVA is definitely a title to watch out for. ^_^

That aside, here's a general question for everyone: how does Gravitation compare to the other shounen-ai series and OVAs you've seen?

The music is REALLY good in the OVAs. Although...there were definitely times when I kinda wanted to shake Shuichi because he was being whinier than usual ^^;; Other than that, I enjoyed it *^_^*

Oh yeah...you also get to see Eiri in a thong. Teehee!

Most of the Shounen-Ai shows that I watch are generally tame and involve viewer speculation. Gravitation was perhaps the first show that I watched that revolved around people who are openly gay. I think that if I were to go deeper into Shounen-ai, then I might find myself on the doorsteps of watching Yaoi ^^;; -- a line that I'm not willing to cross...yet ^^;;
I have just since Gravitation thanks to my friend yunasgrace being able to download it. And i was just wondering what was in the photo that the guy from ASK took does anyone know.

Plus give me your opinions on the characters!!!
This was implied more strongly in the manga, so some confusion is certainly understandable. Aizawa (the guy from ASK) took pictures of
Shuichi being molested and/or raped.
The latter is canon, but given what's shown in the anime I can see why one would interpret it either way.

Anyway, my opinions of the characters are somewhat tainted by reading the manga. Yuki is by far my favorite member of the cast. I admire Tohma's poker face and his quiet ruthlessness, but that aside, I can't say I care for him very much. I guess you could say that I respect his intelligence and methods but don't like his personality. Hiro, Ryuichi and Shuichi would fall somewhere between the two extremes, with Shuichi and Hiro being closer to Yuki and Ryuichi being closer to Tohma.

Gravitation consists of thirteen television episodes plus a two-episode OVA. The OVA is not a direct sequel, but rather a side story (while I'm not sure where it belongs on the TV show's timeline, it'd be best to watch it after finishing the series).

If you really crave more material, you might also want to check out the hilarious manga. It gets off to a rough start, but the later volumes have stunning artwork, and Maki Murakami's humor is simply priceless. As of now the manga is twelve volumes long and technically incomplete. However, it was recently reported that Ms. Murakami has decided to return to the series after a very extended break, and will finally start putting out new chapters. So it looks like fans can hope that there will someday be a real ending.

This all having been said, I think the TV series wraps up its part of the story satisfactorily.

TRSI is awesome, aren't they? I'm looking forward to seeing what the back side of the cover looks like. Anyway, if you order directly from their store, chances are good that they'll ship you the DVD at least several weeks before its official street date (since it's one of their own products and all). The discount won't be that great unless you shop at TRSI regularly, but hardcore Gravi fans may find the trade-off to be worthwhile.

Also, don't forget that the final volume (for now, anyway) of the manga is coming out on July 12.

From what price ranges I've seen they're the second cheapest($22.49)!! I was suprised, because like you said if you don't shop with them regularly (or hit a really good sale) it's normally msrp from them!
The manga (if you're looking) are $7.04 ea. at overstock, the only down side is that they don't have them numbered so you need to go ahead and figure out the vol. cover before you get ready to order!
Just found out TRSI has the Kumagoru plush!!

Sorry for bring this old thread back, but I was too lazy to start a new one! Has anyone watch the ova? I found it was a bit disapointing compared to the series, I'm not sure why, maybe I had it built up in my mind, but it just didn't reach my expectations of what could have been done. Does anyone else feel that way? :animecry:

I am moving your thread to the existing Gravitation thread for the following reason: To avoid confusion we ask that you do not create another thread. Please go ahead and post in the current one no matter how old it is. Before you post any thread, please check the Official Threads Directory and perform a forum search if neccessary to see if there is already a thread on that topic.
