Kirby Air Ride

The game got a pretty bad response from most reviewers. Although Nintendo wanted to make this game easy to play for everyone, I think they made it way too easy. Even an occasional gamer would get bored with one button controls.

Yes, I haven't played the game and probably won't, but I must admit that I do like the Kirby franchise.

I've only checked out the reviews from EGM and they gave the game decent scores (6.5, 7.0 and 8.0, I believe).

Anyway, this is one of those games that I'd put on my "rent list." I enjoy the Kirby franchise and I enjoy arcadey racers so I'm inclined to at least rent the game and give it a decent chance.

Will I buy it? Probably not but I'll definitely play it.

Well, I played the demo in Electronics Boutique, and from what I played, I found it to be so-so.

I played in what I'm pretty sure was Wispy Woods, or a similar model of it. The levels were well-designed and very detailed, but the game's controls and overall feel really didn't impress me too much. Maybe I wasn't playing it properly or something, but it seemed to lack a lot of special aspects in the level. Just a slightly curvy track, no real challenges or obstacles. It seemed very simple.

I must applaud the graphics though. They are fluid and enjoyable, with a very fast pace.

I'd advise renting it if you really like Kirby, but I don't wholeheartedly recommend it.

I've heard nothing great about the gameplay... but there seems to be a lot of depth to the game. Challenges to complete and lots to unlock and so on. IGN's reasoning seemed rather stupid to me. The idea that you can just hold A and wind up at the finish line. I can do that with most any racer... although I doubt I'd win lol.

It's almost guaranteed to be a Players' Choice title eventually, so it might be worth getting in the future.

We had some people on N-Sider play it and comment in the forums. And they really liked it.

They were saying that you have to play it on the harder difficulties/tracks to really get the most out of it.

And, you use A to use weapons as well as to slow down. So you have to balance your weapons useage with your braking as well.

So, apparently it is quite a deep game in those terms. I personally want to buy it, but I can't afford it right now.
