Smoke curdled from Ghost?s gun and five of the people who had been in the room now lay dead, their true forms showing through the layers of skin, ?It?s a shame that they had to die. Their lives could have been far more productive? said Ghost, her voice switched as she turned her eyes onto the new recruits, an authoritive tone that was not to be messed with, ?Follow me. We need to proceed with the administration? she said, spinning the gun back into its holder and leaving the room.

The group shot tentative glances at each other and quickly began to move off, determind not to receive the same fate as those who had refused Ghost?s offer. Ghost moved quickly, sometimes passing through objects and sometimes hitting them hard and painfully. She stopped at an black door, took out a card and swiped it through apparent thin air, slowly it changed and scanning unit appeared above her head.

Ghost reached up, placed her hand on it for a few seconds, cursed and concentrated for half-an-minute and then replaced her hand. There was a computer like sound and the black door slid silently open, revealing N.P.F HQ.

?Wow, talk about MIB? said David. Ghost turned and glared at him dangerously, her voice still chipped with authority, ?Unlike that thing though, we are real and there is no fantasy here?. She moved off once again.

?What?s her problem?? asked Felicia, none to pleased. ?I don?t think it?s a good idea to ask? said Sebastian, scratching irritably at his nose. ?Move it, you lot!? said Ghost without turning around. Once again they all exchanged glances and moved off after her.

The HQ was dull and very plain and ordinary. Desk?s filled with paper were scattered about, coffee cups were all over the place and the odd inexplicable tiny creature dived happily in and out of bins. The officers of the N.P.F came in various different forms and had or at least appeared to have a great respect for Ghost, many calling out their hellos and asking how she was as she went past.

One, a tall blond man who could have been about twenty, deliberately stopped her, ?Ghost, have you got that report yet?? he asked. Ghost sighed irritably, ?No. And it?s not going to be ready for some time yet as I?ve going to have to do admin for this lot. Do people think just because I?m a ghost I don?t get irate?? she asked, obviously irate at the fact that she was being badgered about something that should have been done a while ago but had been far to busy to actually work on it.

Mac nodded and wandered off, Ghost looked up and pointed, ?and Right you lot, see that glass tank over there? she asked. There was a general nod from everyone, ?Good, that is where Squid is. He is not an earth born creature but his use for anything technical is indispensable. If you?re ever told to go and see Squid then you go there? she said, and turning her head she indicated another door, ?Right, the administration process will start in there??Switch!! What are you up to!!? she screamed.

A small black cat appeared, and lovingly rubbed itself around her legs?.before spotting the new assortment and heading straight towards them, ?Kitty!? said Shya bending down to stroke it. The other girls joined in, arring and smiling. Ghost cut in rather sharply, ?Girls back off from him?.

?Why? He?s adorable? said Shya, not sure what Ghost was getting at. ?Switch, you change back right now or I?ll report you to Mac? said Ghost, ignoring her question. The cat turned and seemed to slouch, ?Why? You always do this to me!!!? it said.

?Because you?re untrustworthy. Now change back? she ordered roughly. ?Yeah, okay? said Switch, and suddenly the cat began to change. It grew and slowly mutated into a tall human with bright blue eyes and orange hair, he caught Ghost?s eye and quickly slinked off. Ghost shook her head, ?You?ll learn? she said simply and then pushed them into the administration room.

Two hours later they were discharged. Everything had been taken and tested, blood, reactions, exposure to light, personnel details?..everything that was physically possible was taken. Ghost smiled slightly at seeing the new ones looking tired and immediately led them up several flights of stairs to a dormitory.

It was basic in design, nine beds all of the same metal and with a brown blanket over the top. There was nothing else in the room at all, ?Right, yous?you say in here for the time being. Tomorrow at 07:00 there will be a meeting called for and you all have to attend. There you will be assigned your team leader and your code names. I suggest you get some sleep as training will commence straight after that. Use this time to get to know one another as you are in your given team. I shall monitor your progress. No one is to leave this room at all. Dinner will be brought up at 21:30 and last lights are at 23:00. Goodnight? said Ghost, and with that she turned, left the room and locked the door.

?Squid? she said into a handheld communications device, which bleeped in return, ?Full security lock on room 813. Keep a check on them? she clicked the communications device to off and went down the stairs again, dreading the amount of paper work she would have to do.

Alex took place on one of the beds against a wall and layed down upon it getting used to its style. It was stiff, but surely more comfortable than some other resting places he had slept before. The only other slight discomfort came from the fact that he was too tall for them and he sleeps straight out on his back. The others had taken their places by this time. Next to Alex was a tall, red-headed, younger male pretty much doing the same thing that he was. Alex sat up in the bed and made the first move.

"What's your name?" he said in a low, earthly tone. The man seemed to be bit caught of guard by this as his head snapped in Alex's direction. He then took a deep breath, and released it.

"Sebastian," he replied, "Sebastian Gortz." There was a slight pause of awkward silence. Alex was not one for talking, so he just let it drop and left it up to Sebastian to carry on the conversation. The silence continued as Sebastian just kept staring anxiously, and he swallowed loudly almost as if he was trying to hold something back. "Sorry, umm ... you surprised me a bit, and you are a new, older person. I was just nervous for a bit, which isn't the best thing for me, I suppose, but ... what's your name?"

"Alex." He said only this and nothing more. He was very quick and brief with anything he said, but his attention towards Sebastian never wandered. This may be part of the reason why Sebastian seemed so uneasy at first, Alex was a bigger, darker person and someone like that just staring at you can be rather unnerving. However, a puzzled look overcame Sebastian's face as Alex sat unmoving.

"You are very solid and still, quiet and seemingly cold," Sebastian pointed out. "You could just sit there like that and someone would probably think you were dead ..." He stopped. He was not sure if he had been a little too extreme with that last statement or not, he thought quickly and tried to continue on, "... Or at least sleeping ... with your eyes open ...?" Alex just sat for a bit rehearsing what Sebastian had just said in his head. He then let out a quick, soft chuckle and cracked a half-smile and went of the "dead" comment once more only proceeding to intentionally fall over onto the bed laughing a bit louder. Alex was now a bit more loose and amiable.

"What?" Sebastian inquired. "What's so funny?" Alex just let out a sigh as he lay on his back looking up at the ceiling.

"I am dead."

Seb raised an eyebrow at Zell, still not having taken his attention from Alex. Always cautious...
"Y'know... maybe she's right. You should at least try to get some sleep. I don't think they're going to take your lifestyle into account here."
"And what do you know?" snapped Zell, turning her gaze on him sharply. "I won't do exactly what they want me to!"
Seb frowned, his hand pulling the red rope of hair over his shoulder as he picked at the end of it.
"Then why're you here?"
"I...!"
Seb raised an eyebrow as Zell trailed off. "See? You start trying to change things and then you don't understand what you're fighting for anymore. That's what happens."
"Insightful," piped up David, from across the room.
In reply, Seb just shrugged. "But it's the truth."

Sorry, didn't see that it was opened up until today...

"That it is," David said. Though, he was already questioning why he was here. All because of his little problem. They were turning them into some sort of secret agent or something of that sort. He wasn't sure he was fond of the idea. But he didn't say no when they told him. So it was as much his fault as anyone elses.

"Oh well," he said to himself.

He looked around at the others, who were slowly starting to get to know each other. He assumed he should join in, but he was really tired, and just fell back on his bed and fell asleep. He was actually surprised by how quickly he did.

Shya sat on a bed that was closest to the window. Rain drizzled and streaked the glass. Shya ran a slender finger down the window, tracing the path of a raindrop. She leaned her body against the wall and held her knees to her chest.

Shya had always been alone. Cast out of society from, condemned to pain and loneliness, torment and torture. Her sleek indigo hair fell over her ruby eyes. She thought about her past. She thought of what the future would hold for her. Would she be able to have a place in this realm of life?

"Hello there,"a gently voice snapped Shya out from her deep tranz.

She instinctively drew upon a dagger. Her eyes glew bright red, only for a moment.

" I do not wish to harm you. I just want your name," the young man threw his hands up in defense.

"I am sorry. I just don't take kindly to anyone sneeking up on me like that," Shya sheathed her dagger and looked cautiously at this guy.

He was pale, had piercing blue eyes and silver hair. His face showed the same emotion as most of the people in the room.

"My name is Manson," he extended his hand.

Shya looked at him for a moment before taking his hand,"I am Shya."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to catch you off guard like that." He grinned at her. "How did you sneek that dagger in here?" She looked blank for a second. "Uh...they didn't confinscate our weapons, I don't think." His grin dropped. "Rats. That bum of a docter confinscated my Zippo. He would've got my guitar too, but I bashed him over the head with it." Shya gave a glance towards the window again. "Hey, if you'd rather be alone right now, that's cool." She shook her head. "No, it's okay. I was just thinking about something."

"Oh. So...how did you wind up here?"

Kyru sat in a darkenned corner. Watching the others and listening intently.
So....Shya, Manson, David, Sebastian and Zell...the others must be too tired to talk...heh....tired, I remember the days...
Manson was waiting for Shya to answer him, but her attention had been diverted to Kyru's blood red eyes, glowing in the shadows.
'Shya? Hello? Anyone home?' inquired Manson, waving a hand in Shya's face.
'Heh...I have that affect on women,' Kyru said, snapping his fingers.
Shya snapped out of it.
'Hey! That's not fair! You shouldn't be able to do that to me!' she whined.
'Shouldn't.....but that doesn't mean I can't,' he replied.
He slank off through the shadows, appearing behind her.
'So?' Kyru asked, 'You were going to tell Manson here why the hell you're in this...."facility"....'

"You were going to tell Manson here why the hell you're in this...."facility"...."

At hearing this, Seb looked up, still fidgeting with the tip of his hair, his eyes holding a weary expression. "I don't remember ever being asked along onto this ride. "Why" isn't really a question any of us can answer. I guess we're here because we're supposed to be. Because..." Seb shot a look around at all those assembled. "We're here because there's nowhere else for us. If I'm being harsh about it, then I'm sorry. But it's the truth." At that point he sighed quietly, his breath being heard to leave his lungs in a gentle swoosh of air. Seb wasn't naturally the type to be hard with the facts. And if anyone else knew what the heck was happening, then maybe they could tell him.
But at the end of the day, facts were facts.
He opened his mouth again to speak, but, uncertain what he could really say, he closed it again. He contented himself with turning his gaze away. I just hope that ghost woman comes back soon... he thought quietly to himself.

"Y'know," said Kyru after a brief pause, his words breaking the silence. "I wasn't talking to you." Seb shrugged, but didn't respond, provoking Kyru to let off a disgruntled sigh and turn back to Shya.

By this time, Alex was sitting up in his bed against the wall. He lightly chuckled to himself. This was already turning into a madhouse. Though, he supposed it is really to be expected when nine people are crammed in such claustrophobic quarters.

It was almost offensive, really. Out of these nine people, only three or four them seemed to make any sense. The rest seemed either melodramatic or apathetic. There was one asleep already. Honestly, the group had not traveled all that far, or long. Of course, Alex then kept in mind that he is not neccesarily a living being. The effects of fatigue are not going to take part on him as strongly as others.

He watched as Zell briskly paced back and forth, as Seb sat contently to himself observing the others just as Alex was himself. David was sleeping, Shya was speaking with Manson with Kyru lurking near, and others were still going about their own thing. Even with all these people present, Alex thought that this has to be one of the most lonely rooms he has ever been in ... or that he can recall being in, at least. Everyone was so different, and unity had yet to be established. He wondered whether or not they would ever really come together as a group. It was already apparent that a few egos filled the room, while hope remained in others that theirs is more subdued.

Alex sighed as he closed his eyes, waiting for Ghost to return and administer a bit of control.

Ghost sat at her desk, occassionly checking the monitor of the room with the newbies in and then looking back at the admin work. She hated admin work, it wasn't like they were even going to be......she paused in her thoughts and quickly scoured through the papers. There on the very bottom was the file relating to her new group....she opened it and realises that she was doing the admin for her own group.

She growled and quickened her typing, that meant she had to go and brife them further, in about half-an-hour. When she had just completed Shya's admin form, Switch made an appearance on her desk, the black cat purring obsessively at her. "Switch go away, I'm not in the mood" said Ghost, trying to keep calm.

Switch moaned, "Oh...c'mon Ghost. Leave the admin for their team leader". Ghost glared at him, "Ahh....I forgot to give you that".

"Switch, shut-up or you're going in the bin" said Ghost, now back to typing up Nathan's information.

"ohhhhhhhhh, look whos in a moody-mood..th-ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyweeeeeeeee" said Switch as Ghost, not one to give threats idely, shoved him into the bin and placed a heavy file on top of it.

***

Ghost finished off her admin work and headed up the stairs to meet her new team for the second time of the day. "Squid, unlock the door" she said and then entered.

David wasn't sleeping all that heavily. He heard the door open and Ghost come in. He quickly shot up in bed was very alert. Watching her. The others turned their attention to Ghost as well.

Once again David started to wonder why they were here. Now he had the feeling that they were soon to find out. Which would probably make everyone much happier. He hated being left in the dark about things. So he hoped his feelings were correct.

Shya shifted her attention to Ghost. Manson did as well. Shya stood up and leaned up against the wall. Her eyes empty, tired, and cold. Everyone had gathered around, except for Alex, Kyru, and Shya herself.

The tension in the crackerjack box of a room was so thick, one could slice through with a knife. Alex sat on his bed, leaning against the wall. He slowly looked around at everyone in the room. For a split second, his and Shya's eyes locked. Shya quickly glanced away.

Shya brushed her hair from her lips and waited for Ghost to explain what they were to do.

As everyone gathered around Ghost, Kyru slipped into the shadows again, hoping not to be noticed.
'You. In the shadows,' snapped Ghost, pointing straight at Kyru, then looking at a profile in one of the manilla folders she carried, 'Kyru, is it? Don't bother trying to hide. I know your kind. Big and tough in the dark, but when confronted in full light, you cower and run..'
Bitch he thought.
'I heard that. Thanks to Squid's technology, of course.'

"Now that I've got your attention, I think I've got some explaining to do" there was several murmers around the drom at this, but Ghost silenced them with a wave of her hand, "The reason why you are hear is simply that the enemy has risen against us and is preparing to strike out at the world and kill every man, woman and child who will either be of no use to him or will not bow down to him.

We have all one thing in common, we cannot abide to see the innocent hurt or riddaculed without good cause. True we are monsters and deamons of the night, things which until a few hours ago you thought were simple figments of imagination. I am fully aware that several of you will have been aware of what you truely are for a while now...that will make the next part slightly easier" she paused.

"Next part?" asked Kryu

"Yes, next part. Most of you will have had some extrodinary expereiences with what you can do, but controlling what you are capable of is an neccistiy for every member of the N.P.F. Tommorrow you shall all start training, it'll take no more than two days at the most. It will be riggerous and heavy going, but what you learn can make you either the best or insane. I bid you a good night" said Ghost, turning to leave but then stopping and turning back.

She dug into her pocket and produced several cards, they were no bigger than ID and held photographs and names on them, "These are your ID cards. You are expected to wear them at all times for security reasons. You'll find that you have been assigned a name. That will be what you are called around here. You no longer exist to the human world, you are part of our world now and I am your team leader. I will expect you all to be ready at 07:00 tommorrow morning for the brifeing. Night" she finished with a silent nod, before leaving the stunned room.

Quietly, Seb peered at his own card. The picture of him was one he didn't remember ever sitting for, like a passport photograph but his gaze had distracted to one side, as though someone had spoken to him as the shot had been taken. "Not the most flattering shot in the world..." he murmured to himself. Then he noticed his new name. Shift. Not even a real name, more like a code name. Not for the first time that evening, Seb started having misgivings about his situation. But he slipped the card into his pocket, not intending to wear it 24/7.
He was desperate to know what other people thought of Ghost's announcement, but held his tongue. He might be desperate to know but he was less than desperate to ask.

Shy turned her identification card over and studied the information. She looked up to see the others doing the same. They stuffed their cards into their pockets. Shya sighed and did the same. No point of wearing it when she was about to retreat to sleep.

Shya plopped down on her bed. She lay on her stomach and hugged her pillow, the rain continued to drizzle silently. The room was getting warmer, Shya got up and scooted her bed closer to the coolness eminating from the window. Laying down, Shya began to doze off.

"What is your name?" Alex startled Shya from her slight slumber.

"Deglow," Shya didn't look at him.

'Deglow' was the name given on the identification card. Shya assumed the name had come as a combination of her being demon and her glowing eyes.

"No, I meant your real name," Alex sat on his bed, no more than ten feet from Shya's.

He leaned against the wall, hidden by shadow. Shya slowly turned her head to look him in the face.

"Shya," her voice soft.

"Shya? That's pretty," Shya saw Alex nod his head.

"Thank you," she turned her attention back to the window.

"Deglow, huh? Mine's Alexander, my code name is Grave," Alex was now laying on his back, hands folded under his head.

"Alexander? I used to know a man by that name. I miss him terribly," Shya dug her chin into her pillow.

Kyru stared at his ID card.
Pfft! Whitepire?! What kind of a name is THAT?! he thought.
Then he thought better of thinking of what he could say aloud. That Ghost woman might overhear him.
'So, Manson. What shit ID name have you got then?' Kyru called from his hiding place in the shadows.
'Pack...it's alright I guess. But judging from the way you thought my ID name was going to be shit, I'm guessing yours isn't exactly to your liking,' was the reply.
'To my LIKING?! How can you LIKE my ID name?! Whitepire....well, I'm CERTAINLY not wearing this ID card. Especially if it means being called,' he shivered, an unusual thing for him to do, 'Whitepire'
You can just call me Kyru at this freak house woman. No-one in the world knows my name is Kyru. Apart from these mutants in this room. You hear me woman?! IT'S KYRU!! he screamed through his thoughts, hoping that Ghost had heard him clearly enough.

OCC: No offense or anything, the name Whitepire just doesn't appeal to me. No matter. Just call me Whitepire and enjoy making my character squirm. It'll be fun, I guess...

Training, briefings, more training, information sessons, first contact co-ordination exercises and a hundred and one other things went on during the next three weeks. Ghost had long forgotten how hard training was, and often ended up with more work to do than her team. But still, one moth ago they had all passed their training and now the fun was really going to start.

Ghost once again sat at her computer, filling out some reports with Deglow, Shift, Grave and Pack. Ghost had made it clear from the start that she would call them by their code-names and they would call her by hers as well. After a few moans and groans they had all finally agreed to it and now were working reasonably well.

Switch appeared, this time in human form and winked at Deglow, "Hey Ghost, got this from Mac" he said throwing down a file and grinning. Ghost opened the file, quickly read the contense and smiled, "A hunting mission? Wow, we must've done well. Grave, go get the others....you three follow me to the weapons room, Grave take the others there as well" said Ghost getting up and streaching.

"Why?" they all asked together, obviously confused as to Ghost's sudden change in mood. "We're off baddie hunting" she said, a touch of venom in her voice.

OOC: Don't think it matters much if we are all going to the same place..
_____

David, or Musblood, weird name, walked to the weapons behind Grave. Obviously they were about to get their first mission and Dave was actually starting to look forward to it. He had perfected his vampire skills, and now needed something good to test them out.

They entered the Weapons Room, Daveid was immediately awed by it. It seemed like every weapon imagianible was in there, to him anyways. He had never seen so many weapons in his life. This was going to be interesting, he thought, as he looked at a high powered crossbow.

ooc: okay, if you could all please send me a pm asap I'll give you your desired weapons.

Ghost nodded at Musblood and Grave, "You'll like this, trust me. There's nothing better than hunting" she said.

"Ghost?" asked Grave, obviously unsure of something. "what?" she asked, picking up a gun and casually loading it, "What are you?" he asked.

In all of the training, Ghost had never revealed her true form to them, on the preset that she had done training a long time ago. "Grave, what I am is something.....that should not be. If you ever see me in my true form...you'll know about it" she said in a simple and very quiet voice.

OOC: Ahh Clash of the Tita-! ...umm, I mean "Timelines" You sent Grave to get the others, so I'll make it Grave who does... I'm getting us from point A to point B anyways.
~~~~
Alex - no, Grave - ushered the others together fairly quickly, briskly, and cooly. Just as, Seb quickly discovered, was Alex's nature. Not that Seb minded all that much, it was good to have someone around who wasn't obsessed with yelling about every little thing. But the urgency, that even Alex couldn't hide, was infectious, the more excitable among them getting louder by the second.
Quickly they made their way to the "Weapons Room", to find the others already there and waiting for them, armed with several different types of weapons - each. Absently, Seb watched them, wondering how on earth they were supposed to do anything armed to the teeth like that. Ghost was obviously thinking the same thing.
"It's good to see you're eager," she said quietly, laying a hand of her own on the gun in David's hands, "but guns aren't the only things I want you all to concentrate on."
"What do you mean?" asked Seb quietly.
Ghost turned her gaze on him, tilting her head slightly in near fascination. "What?"
"Concentrate on?"
Ghost then tipped her head with a slight smile, understanding what Seb was getting at. "You may not like what we're about to do. Those of us who have hidden for a long time, those of us may not understand." Her gaze held Seb's own with a pointed force. "Maybe even you."
"I understand," said Seb, narrowing his gaze a little to demonstrate his annoyance at being spoken to like a child. "I know what's at stake here."
"I'm sure you do."
"I do!"
Ghost smiled and nodded again. "As I said, I'm sure you do." She paused, taking in the redhead for a moment more before turning to the others, who had been silent throughout the whole exchange. "Any more questions?"
