Zen
Over my days of watching anime, I have noticed an all important factor to my liking of it. The quality of the Seiyuu cast. The cast are the ones who truly bring the characters to life and if there not good, the anime usually falls short for me. Like I love Cowboy Bebop's Seiyuu cast. The characters feel as though there real people. Another I like is Trigun. (Lets just say it makes up for the animation quality....) And one thing I don't get is why people hate Kagome's voice in InuYasha so much. People say that she sounds like a complete airheaded school girl, concerned with nothing but boys.... Which is true. Lets face it people, she's not exactly a philosopher. So please inform me about your problem with that. But there are other shoes that I don't like at all, because of the horrible Seiyuu (and often times bad writing...) Shows like Yu-Gi-Oh (which I dislike other whise) has a horrible Seiyuu (Joey is your stereotypical american in this case) and don't get me started on Yugi's. Another Seiyuu is the japanese DBZ cast. I mean all of the saiyans except Vegeta sound like small girls! And my point stands. Now, I have created this thread for a reason. I ask how important is the seiyuu cast to you? What questions do they ask? Which ones do you love and loaf?
Dagger
First of all, clarify what you mean by "seiyuu". Your use of the word makes it sound as though you're referring to a Japanese voice actor or actress, but Kagome only sounded like an air-headed school girl in the Inuyasha dub. I was thinking of making this thread myself, so I'll be more than happy to contribute. ~Dagger~
Zen
I mean both. Dub and Original. So please, do contribute.
Dagger
Dubs have definitely been improving over the years. Nowadays, most of them are fairly tolerable (with the notable exception of Yu-Gi-Oh and several other shows). Whenever I like a series enough to buy it on DVD, I always watch the dubbed version first, and then the subtitled Japanese. Out of all the dubs I've ever watched, Yu Yu Hakusho would have to be my personal favorite. All of the leads are voiced by excellent English VAs, who provide their own interpretation of each character rather than trying to sound exactly like their Japanese counterparts (which would be an exercise in futility). I especially appreciated the fact that the people who played Hiei and Yukina are actually siblings in real life. John Burgmeier plays Kurama--whose Japanese seiyuu is Megumi Ogata, a woman. Their voices obviously sound very different, but I enjoy listening to both. The same thing applies to Kenshin's English VA, Richard Hayworth (since that character's seiyuu is also female). ~Dagger~
Verykawaiineko
ohh this is a BIG can of worms...basically i say this with only a few minor exceptions...*i hate dubs* that is to say American ones....I usally adore the japanese voice cause you know that annoying as Chubiusa's voice in the original SM .. the American one was ten times worse....and since i watch ALOT of anime i ONLY watch it in subs or just watch it raw...but im getting lazy now if i can watch it in sub i try to so i can focus on other things...i think the main differnce between the two things..dubs and subs is the experience and quality of the actors..animation is only one part of the show the Seiyuu makes up a important part too...American ones tend to only work as VA and japanese ones are very multitalented...the seiyuu is also treated differently in the two cultures...my favorite seiyuus are probably Seki tomo...who did Van from Esca, Shuichi from Gravi, Chichiri from FY and a boat load of others..*did i mention he sings very well?* and Okiayu Ryoutarou who did K in Gravi and Shigure in Fruba..he is one of the funniest..he and his mangled Engrish just cracks me up!! Hikaru midorakawa comes in a close third..he did Heero in Gw and Tamahome in FY hehe..wow i typed alot....
Dan Rugh
When you say "seiyuu", that is associated with the Japanese voice actors. If you are talking about the English voice actors then say english voice actors. The InuYasha english dubbing is perfectly fine, by the way. Unless you know and understand Japanese conversation, for all you know, the Japanese voice actors could be just as bad or even worse actors. Just be happy that you are able to see the anime instead of focusing so much on the ability of the voice actors.
Zen
The voice cast for me is a major factor because it brings the characters to life. I only used Seiyuu, Dan, because it was one word and quicker than writing Dub Voice Actors over and over. Verykawaii, give me an example of why you hate american dubs other than "there terrible". Verykawaiineko
OK i watched orphen...watched it with the subtitles and the dub..the dub changed the whole story..this also happend with Generator Gawl the dub gave away the story...i dont mind minor changes to fit the mouth flaps but changing the script bugs me..also the voices are...rather corny as in the FY dub and the SM dub
Zen
Well, I agree with you on Orphen, especially those little kids who hate him. But I can't comment on General Gawl because I'm afraid I never saw it. But those are just two fish in an ocean. Check Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho (as adviced by Dan), Trigun, and most deffinetly FLCL. They have great Dub casts.

Zen
Another subject I'm looking to is if and when the Naruto series comes to America, which I hope will, who will play the Dub. I'm hoping that Naruto himself will be played by the voice actor who did Bit Clouds voice in "Zoids". I'm not big on voice actors names, so I can't give there direct names. I'm hoping htat Sakura will be played by the Dub of Ninamori from FLCL. As for Sasuke, I'm thinking Heero Yuy's actor. Any comments?

Zen
Well, Sasuke is very mature for his age. ALso, I beleive Heero is 16 in GDW. Little known fact- Chang Wufei from Gundam is actually 19 and I heard a rumor that he had a wife that was a Federation Pilot. She named her MS Nataku, and she died. Hince the reason he alsways calls his Gundam NAtaku. (I may be wrong, though. Please correct me because I consider myself a Gundam inthusiast.) Verykawaiineko
ohh nope they are all 15 in Gw but o one really knows...but theya re 16 in EW...actually read The gundam wing manga Episode Zero it was suppose to be part of the story but instead was made in to a manga..published in english by Viz and now sells only for the low price of 9.99...i sound like an ad ne? im the lil GW junkie girl...
wufe'is also 15...i read it in the offical Gundam art book and anyway he calles his MS Nataku is beacsue his wife vcalle dher self nataku..she died trying to save him and the gundam so he names it after her...like i said read Episode zero its great..and the art is to DIE for...^__^
No
He is the same age as the others. And his wife was NOT a federation pilot. He got married before the series started. There is a reason behind the name Nataku that i cant remember. It's in Episode Zero. So read that and it might help a bit. AND I LOVE WEISS KREUZ!! I just dont like gluhen becuase of the fact that they chopped off Yohji's hair...and to the fact that Brad has WHITE hair now...i loved those glasses and blue hair! Oh so im not too off topic. I love how in Weiss Kreuz. All of the voice actors in Weiss and Schwarz sing their OWN songs. I love it sooooooooooooooo much!! Schuldig singing is the greatest thing i've ever heard. Ok here is the song name "Spiritualized"
Zen
As I asked you to correct me, thank you. But in the anime, your wrong about there age because the back of the VHS's give full profiles on them and the only 15 year old is Quatre. Wufei is 19. But thanks for the info, VK. Zen
Well, I got it at a PX on an American Air Force Base in Germany. But I'm sure you can get it at any Suncoast or whatever. I gotta check out WK cuz it seems like an awsome one. OK, another subject. What is the problem with Kagome's voice in the InuYasha dub. People act like it is horrible. Please give me some insight on why everyone but me adn Dagger hate it?

Personally I think the best Japanese voice cast is Samurai X OVA Seiyuu. Kenshin and Kenji had the perfect voices. Everyones voices matched their personalities perfectly. Dagger
Actually, Daigo, I don't really like her dub voice all that much.... >_> This could have something to do with the fact that Moneca Stori also does the dub voice of Laura (from Hamtaro). To me, anything associated with that show will always be slightly annoying. I'd say that she generally just makes Kagome sound a little too young and whiny. Kagome is a strong, optimistic, principled girl, and her seiyuu does a better job of portraying her as such. I would also venture to guess that most people dislike Ms. Stori's voice, which is rather high-pitched for an English VA. But overall, her acting isn't too bad. ~Dagger~
Zen
Well, I'd have to see the original Seiyuu before I could judge, but I find no problem with her voice because KAgome does have some dumb moments. But you also have to see that outside of the Feudal Era, Kagome is pretty much a japanese Valley Girl. But there is also a rule, don't judge a book by its cover. If KAgome came off with a more mature voice, say like Sango's, it wouldn't come off aswell as the original dub.
Dagger
I disagree with the idea that Kagome is some kind of Valley Girl. She's merely an ordinary teenager: she loves her family, gets nervous around boys, and struggles in math. She tries to be a good student and doesn't seem to care very much about popularity. But that's just my take. Kagome's seiyuu has the same bubbly, cheerful tone as Moneca Stori, but her delivery contains shades of subtlety which make it seem as though Kagome actually does some serious thinking (once in a while). Sango's VA sounds a bit too mature. After all, Sango is supposed to be only a year older than Kagome. ~Dagger~
Zen
Maybe your right. But you'd have a hard time picking out any other voice actors for her. You would probably have to take an asian 9th Grade girl to do her voice because that stage is hard to imitate seeing how the puberty process is happening. Dagger
Well, in the end, it's ultimately a matter of one's personal tastes. There's no clear-cut right or wrong. I have a question for all of you DBZ fans out there: How does the dub compare to the original Japanese? I've heard that the Dragonball dub is atrocious, but since I've never made an effort to follow the series, I can't offer an opinion of my own. ~Dagger~
