Guest Charming One
[B]My mom say anime is evil and is what made me waste 2 years of my high school life doing nothing so 1 reason why i'm home schooled anyways she is always talking about why they look the way they do,I try to sit her down and let her watch a few but she gets all pissed at me for trying and we end up fighting and w/me crying cause i'm trying to defined it,so now i just asked my daddy (which has no problem w/anime)to buy what I want and not to tell mom! So what I gather from this is people dislike what they can't explain or just don't want too! As for american cartoons they are some nasty cartoon! Most of them show butts, underware, kissing of the same sex,point-less violaces! I was just watching Billy and Mandy! please that show tell kids about the under world and the devil and dog s**t! but if my mom saw me watching that its all good, but let me watch Fma or something eles she flip out! It some messed up S**t if you ask me!
Killer7
Personally my parents would rather me spend my time and money on sports or something active like that, but they are not totally against anime. From my experience I have noticed the reason alot of people criticize anime (and other things) is because they don't understand it , and think it is some wierd version of an american cartoon. Many of my friends who don't like anime think it is dumb and I look at hentai (which I don't). For example, that woman probably saw her kid seeing a questionable part of FLCL, that was maybe 1 minute of the entire show, and immediately decided to take action, without watching the entire series. Ikillion
yeah i think so well my mom doesnt really HATE anime i think its more of she doesnt understand it but i think the most part of it is that they show alot of reveling clothing and she keeps making it a issue all the time i watch it but i still think so You need to put more effort into your posts. Correct punctuation and capitalisation would be a good start. -Lore
Killer7
Honestly it is a cartoon, why should it matter if thier is blood or nudity, it isn't actually happening. Other then that, if a cartoon is on one of the major channels you don't pay for, it is almost certainly made by 4kids, the scourge of the anime business. Hobo Bob
My parents dont mind me watching anime. As long as there is no nudity ( if i know theres a part like that i watch it on my comp) But i guess some parents dont like some of the things they do in it like violence and all the good stuff like that. My mom likes to watch Gundam and Rurouni Kenshin with me sometimes and really likes it. But my dad says he hates those big eyed girls. Ohh well
Sara
She thought Inuyasha was a girl just cause he has long hair.
Heck, I thought Inuyasha was a girl. Face it, he's just feminine. :p Not by anime standards, but most anime guys are of slimmer stock than their western counterparts. I mean, compare Batman to Kenshin.
AzureWolf
I mean, compare Batman to Kenshin.
Liek! OMG! KENSHIN BATTOUSAI would TOTALALY KILL BATOMAN! WUT DO U THINK U R DOING? IT'S SO STUPID TO EVEN COMPARE! :flaming: THAT'S STUPID!!! KENSHIN IS ANIME! OMG KENSHIN!   Hello, Miss Mod Person. I'm an innocent new member, yes I am. :p Anyway, I don't think you can hate anime, just like a person can't hate movies or stories for that matter. You can hate a particular anime, movie, or story, but the medium itself is pretty hard to hate. So, with that in mind, I think people who criticize anime have had a bad experience with it or haven't experienced it at all. How often have you heard this reason for hating anime? "It's ridiculous. You have one guy screaming and powering up for one episode and the other guy screaming and powering up in the other one. How can you like that kind of stuff?" (guess which anime they watched.) I can't say I've met a single person who hated anime for the right reasons. Just like I've never met someone who hates music or books. It's just, very hard to hate something so broad. Anime is so diverse that there's something in it for everyone. ...Just like music, movies... yeah... you get the point by now...
Weaver_Karuko
Well... Several of my friends are considered adults now that they have shed the proverbial wings of the age of seventeen... they critcize everything, but that's not the point. As far as true adults go, my father really doesn't care... just as longs as the ''hot asian cartoons have..."tiggle bitties." Sometimes he scares me... Other than that, I think they criticize because they don't see the true form of art in anime... Yes, yes they like to criticize anime.

Bloodseeker
I'm responding to this WAAAYYYY too late... Anyways, saying that adults like to critisize anime is pretty general... adults come in many more different flavors than teenagers do. And from what I've seen, its seems like acceptance of "geekier" things like anime and videogames is much more common with the average 20-40 year old working man than it is with the average teenage prep. Sure there's the adults that can't get passed the 70's, 80's, and 90's, when cartoons where almost purely aimed at kids, but most of them seem at least willing to look past that. Although, it seem like a lot people over the age of 40 are past the point of being able to truly accept animation as an adult form of entertainment... DreamAlchemist
Well I dont get it... :flaming:The always put those warning before shows like FLCL comes on so the mom could have change it before the kid watch it. I can see why so people would not appove of it but still. My mom is ok with it heck I think that where I got the love for anime , even those some time I have to explain so things to her.Right now me and her watch FMA and the new Inuyasha then my mom get tired. I mean she like to see it but some are not like her . Ed and Inuyasha do swear alot:animeblus. Even thought FLCL is kind of bad for kids but when I look back wasn't Sailor moon as bad girl in really tiny skirt and jumping up and down :nope:.I think there could be worse thing in some cartoon but I just alwell :animeswea
Guest LianaBazooka
There is always something in this world that someone is going to complain about. Including anime. It's just a fact of life, just like the fact that there will always be stereotypes. People don't like things they don't understand. Also, not everyone thinks with the same mindset, so not everyone will like the same things. People are going to try and provoke others just because of small differences like these. Not all parents criticize anime. My mom is ok with it, just some subject matter might bother her. Once she watched a movie with me, and when women were implying that men are stupid, she didn't like that, she thought it was sexist. My dad, however, is bothered by the style for some reason. I don't have cable, so the only anime I see are on FoxKids in the morning. One morning I was watching One Piece, and he was complaining about the unrealistic size of the mouth. My brothers don't really like anime either. My younger brother thinks the animation is "shoddy", but viewers often don't take into consideration that maybe the animation is choppy because each frame has more attention to detail. Because of the time it takes them to draw each frame, they can't complete quite as many frames by the deadline, so the animation is less smooth. However, I think that people should be able to look past little nuances and enjoy the story and expression of the anime. Even though the lady didn't even sue, people will sue companies for things the company isn't even responsible. For instance, I heard a story about a man who bought a Winnabaego(sp?), and took it for a drive. He decided he was going to go in th back and make some coffee, so he set the cruise control, believing it would take care of the steering as well as maintaining speed. As a result, the RV rolled over several times, and he sued the company. You know what he did with the money he got? He bought another RV! Some people may not like the story lines, just like some people like comedy, and some like horror genres. I love complex and layered story lines, and I like comedy. I don't really like horror. That's just my preference. Anime is a medium, just like movies shot with real life actors are another medium. They both can be used to tell stories. I agree that it's too bad that some people just won't appreciate all mediums for what they are. Just appreciating anime on your own does it justice. It's great if you have friends that enjoy it too, but you don't have to convince others to like it. And don't let it get you down when people criticize something you like. They just can't get used to something new and different, and they probably never will. If they are ever going to discover that they like anime, let them discover it on their own.
