Sara
Don't you let your sadness get you down It always helps when you sing a song Good cheer carries you along Through darkness leads to sunlight A new day comes, it's all right In a fluffy, rainbow-filled land above the clouds called Care-a-Lot, there live a number of cuddly, colorful teddy-bear creatures called Care Bears. They are friendly, almost sickeningly sweet creatures whose major goals in life are to help people and make them happy. Each has a symbol on their tummy representing their name and, ah, attributes. For example, Good Luck Bear bears a four-leaf clover; Wish Bear has a shooting star. Down the river from Care-a-Lot lies the Forest of Feelings, home of the creatively named Care Bear Cousins. These are equally cute and fuzzy animals, also with symbols on their tummies. Examples of the cousins include Bright Heart Racoon, a clever purple animal with a heart-shaped light bulb on his stomache, and Cozy Heart Penguin, a furry, um, penguin. I think her symbol is a heart with a winter hat on it? Anyway. As you can imagine, the Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins often face difficulties in their crusade to make life fuzzy-happy for everyone. However, their foes are rarely evil so much as they are misguided, and the Care Bears have a wonderful, cheerful, caring way of dealing with this: the shoot lasar beams out of thei stomaches. No, seriously, they do. In the uniquely named Care Bear Stare, each participating bear's emblem will glow, then emit a bright beam of colored light. Combined, these rainbow colors can do anything from making an evil spirit run and hide, to forming a big, star-shaped balloon. (The first one sounds a little more effective, but you do what you can.) I don't recall whether or not the Care Bear Cousins could do such a thing (in the movie, they had to "call." (Read: make a godawful racket) to defeat any bad guys. That was, however, before they got their little kid-friendly tattoos on their stomaches....so let's just say they can do the lasar beam thing as well. So why am I giving you a synopsis of an overmerchandised eighties cartoon? I'll tell you why! I am looking to start an RPG about it. Thus, the making of this thread in the "starting an RPG" section of the boards. ...Duh. Care Bears: Tenderheart, Cheer, Funshine, Good Luck, Birthday, Wish, Friend, Grumpy, Love-a-Lot, Bedtime Bear, Grams, Baby Hugs & Tugs, Share Bear, Champ Bear, Harmony Bear, Secret Bear, and True Bear. Care Bear Cousins: Cozy Heart Penguin, Lotsa Heart Elephant, Bright Heart Raccoon, Playful Monkey, Proud Heart Cat, Gentle Heart Lamb, Treat Heart Pig, Loyal Heart Dog, Brave Heart Lion, Noble Heart Horse, and Swift Heart Rabbit. I'm sure I'm missing some, but eh. You get the picture, I'm sure. Pictures and whatnot of each character can be got here. In any case, yes. RPG. The basic premise here is that a handful of Care Bears and/or Care Bear Cousins need to go about saving the world from, um, something sad. Yes. No, wait--even better!--Someone sad. His name is, um...Mel. And it's short of Mellan Collie. He's...a sad...dog. Yes. (Alternately, she could be Mel Anne Collie...um.) Work with me, I'm writing an impromptu 80s cartoon script. Okay, so five or six insanely caring animals need to find a way to combat the sadness of Mel the dog. His/her sadness is, um, infecting the people (animals?)--ooh, infecting the various Caring Creatures he/she comes in contact with. That's bad. Because, then there are fewer Care Bears, etc. to deal with it...nice. So....yeah. Anyone interested can sign up as a Care Bear or whatever. There a a bunch listed above. I suppose you could make up your own character as well. *shrugs* Depending on how many people actually sign up for this crazy little thing, I'll either choose who participates or beg more people to join. We'll see. little fact sheet: Name: Be Original! (No, not really.) Color, I guess: Aqua? Eggshell? Symbol: Probably incorporating either hearts of smiling stars...or rainbows. Stereotype: (Smart, silly, sleepy, etc.) Due to the, uh, nature of this RPG, sign-ups aren't going to be very deep. Hopefully we can dodge Harlequin's wrath long enough to give this a start. If you've got any earth-shattering ideas for the story, lemme know.
