This includes every part of Pokemon-- the anime, the games, the trading card game... But mostly the anime and the games. Basically, how do you think Pokemon can improve in those areas, since it's losing popularity?

Here's what I think:

-Game variety. This is the biggest one. OK, they started out with Pokemon Red/Blue, then Yellow, then Gold/Silver, then Crystal, and now Ruby/Sapphire. The gameplay for them is almost the same! I red an article on Ruby/Sapphire and they said that all the Pokemon games had virtually the same gameplay and stuff. They said that all that happened was that they added more features and new Pokemon. BORING. I say we need a new improvement on Pokemon. Maybe they should make one for Game Cube or something where the play is 3D and not flat. And the battles could be like those of Pokemon Stadium. And there should be a feature like the special Pikachu in Yellow, except for all Pokemon. You know, where they can follow you around and stuff. That would be cool!

-Better shows. OK here's what this issue is. The first season of Pokemon, in my opinion, was the best one of all. The new characters were introduced, Pikachu was cuter, and funnier things happened, like Ash being absent-minded at times. And the gym leaders were much better designed than they were later on. The gym leaders from Johto and Hoenn, well, didn't have that much spark to me. But I liked Blaine and Sabrina and Erika and Lt. Surge in Season 1. They're the coolest! In Season 2, I liked the idea of defferent ways to earn badges! Season 2 was good! But at Season 3, that's when it started dying. The shows began t get a tad bit broing, even though there were some particularly interesting ones (such as the Quagsire/Blue Moon Falls episode). And it got worse during Seasons 4 and 5, even though some episodes were good (like the one with Ninetales and its illusions and the one with Sakura and Espeon and the Tin Tower/Ho-oh/Eusine episode) Also I think they need new villains. Team Rocket is getting kinda old, don't you think? And I'm sure everyone has the motto memorized by now... Actually, I like the villains in the episode when Larvitar returned to its mother. You know, the group of Pokemon Poachers where two members kept reminding the boss that he was a genius, and how he made everything rhyme. That was hilarious! Well, I guess the anime is beginning to improve in Season 6 (Pokemon Advanced), with the addition of May and Max, and Teams Magma/Aqua. And, fgun new Pokemon!

-Pikachu. Even though I think that Pikachu is one of the cutest Pokemon around (don't you agree?), I think he's getting to be a little old and "too cute" (sorta like a Pokemon version of Shirley Temple). Well, I think the anime needs either for Pikachu to return to its Pokeball or for a new Pikachu trainer (in other words, get rid of Ash). Of course, that's only my opinion.

-New main character(s). This goes for both the anime and the games. I think in the anime they ned a new main character, since Ash is getting kinda old. (and so is Brock, sort of) I think that when they make a new season, they need to start out fresh. (check out my fic which I will post soon!) Also, the same goes for the games. It's cool that in Crystal, you got your choice of gender. But the main characters, in my opinion, have the same "theme". They look kinda similar, if you ask me. I think we need some variety in character choice in the games. (Who knows? Maybe you can be Misty or Morty or even Sabrina!)

Well, that's all I have to say. What do you think Pokemon needs to change?

The anime needs a serious overhaul. The games need an upgrade, but not nearly as much as the show. Here's what I think:

*Ditch Ash: Seriously, can he just become the Pokemon master already? I never really liked him in the first place; he's an anime stereotype. He just needs to be phased out, and take Pikachu with him.

*Ditch Meowth, and make Team Rocket a threat again: I like Meowth, but he breaks one of the series' self-appointed rules: Pokemon can't talk. Jesse and James need to be less bufoony and more elegant and mysterious, like they were in the beginning of the show. No more motto, no more Meowth ballon, no more "blasting off".

Ehhh...maybe they just need new villians...but I love Jess and James...

*New angel: This is the most important thing: every single episode of Pokemon seems to be the same: meet a unique person with a unique Pokemon who has some odd problem. Solve problem. Keep looking for gym.

The show needs to be more focussed, and stop doing the same thing every episode. More tournaments, etc.

That's just my 2 cents.

The games are ok; so no problem with that.

I know only have two things that really need improvement.

First off, the anime does show the same old story plot. They travel, battle, save pikachu, and go. They've got to add something interesting; more comedy, action(besides more pokemon battles), and so on.. The first and second seasons were great; but when the third through fifth seasons came, there were a lot of ups and downs. I believe the sixth season is begining to improve the show. More comedy is added.:) Let's hope the next season gets more and more interesting.

Second is the other category. I think the movies definitly need improvement. The first movie became a big hit. I like it. Then, the second movie got better and better. I just love the Lugia song(in symphony version). After a while, when the third through fifth movies came along, the anime totally went down. I haven't seen the fifth, but the ratings show of some less ups and more downs. The forth movie got a little good, but it's just not good enough in worth watching. As for the third movie, I got really ticked off. What does Ash's mother have to do with this conflict? She's never been seen all the time in every episode. Why can't it be one of the main characters (besides the hero and pokemon); if you know what I mean? Since the sixth movie is coming next year, or some time soon, my opinion on the ratings would be that it's interesting, but not even close to worth watching.

Pokemon needs to be more like the other anime show. The ones we love watching. That way, pokemon will keep on living and never dying. That's my thought, and I agree with it.:ball: :whoops:

First off, I want to agree with Deathbug on ditching Ash and taking Pikachu with him. The only difference is that I'd like it to be a slow painful death. What can I say? I'm a Team Rocket enthusiast.
I also agree about their focus problem. Like Deathbug said, it's the same thing every episode.
Keep Meowth, he's interesting. Keep Jess and definitely James! Put in more Butch and Cassidy and turn Team R. into a global threat that is prepared to unleash weapons of mass destruction in Kanto and Johto and take over the world! Muahahaha!
^_^' Eh... okay I went overboard again. Hem...
As much as I'd love to see that, give us a hero with a _LIFE_ and some interesting Pokemon. Nothing too cute though. Maybe I'd enjoy the show more if they did that. But then again, that's my opinion! Bye! ^____^;)

I only have one real problem with the show, and it actually has to do mainly with the movies. And that's that they keep screwing up the power levels. Mewtwo is more powerful than Mew, yet the two of them appear to be evenly matched. Entei is much more powerful than Charazard, yet the two of them have a very long battle. Not even Pikachu's lasted much more than a minute(if even that), but Charazard's was a long one. Celebi is taken down by Scyther and Houndoom, but later takes out a huge group of Pokemon with one attack. The only movie that doesn't have a power screw-up is Pokemon 2000.

Well, I could choose a couple different options on that poll, for different parts of the Pokemon franchise. For the anime, I think they should've stopped while they were ahead. Three seasons was enough -- I haven't heard anything good about the anime past the third season, and from the episodes I've seen, it was really going downhill from season one and two. They either need to make some serious changes/improvements or just stop altogether, I think.

For the games, I think they could use some real gameplay improvements. More Pokemon and a different overworld along with a couple other little new features is not enough to warrent a third set of games. And now they're doing remakes of the original Red and Blue on the GBA just so you can get the original Pokemon in R/S? Come on! I for one am not going to spend my money on either of these sets, unless by some miracle I get more than enough money to buy every other system and game that I want more.

I'm sad to see it go, I really am, but my interest in Pokemon has all but disappeared as of late. The RPG mode in Colosseum looks like it could be fun, but what do you want to bet you need a copy of R/S to play it? Not to mention the first two Stadium games weren't that much fun unless you had your own Pokemon, and I can't imagine the rest of Colosseum is much different. I'm still waiting for a stand-alone RPG on the GameCube with online play for battles and such, if not as an MMORPG.

Come to think if it....that is messed up. The movies did show that. You've got a real good point. It's almost like Entei, Celebi, and Mewtwo look powerful; but when it comes to battles against the original pokemon, it's almost like they're not as strong as they should be. The movie 2000 doesn't show it. (Thank goodness!!!):blush: Maybe we, the fans, should have a talk with the directors about this situation. :therock:

I DEFINITELY agree with the fact about needing better villains for the show. Maybe there could be a team dedicated to the destruction of all Pokemon, not to steal them. Those would be trainers that don't care about Pokemon whatsoever. That would be cool... MWAHAHA!

Yes, Season 6 shows improvement, and I especially enjoy the sad episodes and the ones with my favorite Pokemon in them. (Ninetales, Alakazam, Espeon, Gardevoir, Hypno, Misdreavus, Dragonair...) In season 6 the episode "A Poached Ego" (which was on today) made me cry... Jessie and James releasing Arbok and Weezing, whom they had and loved for so long... :bawl: Oh well, I heard they'll get
Cacnea
and
Seviper
as their newest Pokemon, and Wobbuffet and Meowth are a hoot! And James still has Victreebel... I think... I hope...

They should make the games 3d or something. My idea of a perfect game would be for Game Cube or something, and where the gameplay is 3d rather than those boring graphics in the previous games. And the battles could be like the ones in Pokemon Stadium, and... Well I have a lot of ideas. (hint hint)

However, I've heard good reviews of Pokemon Pinball, especially the R/S version. "Whether you would first hug Pikachu or wring his little neck, Pokemon Pinball is truly a fun game." (Sort of a quote from the Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine)

Basically, for the games, Pokemon and Pokemon Stadium would look really good when combined.

They released Arbok and Weezing? Oo; They will be missed....

And by the way, James' Victreebel ran off with another one a while back. It was before the Silver Conference, I think.

I agree with the fact that the plot has been very much recycled and is now tiring. The characters are getting somewhat bland, and are in desperate need of new faces. Something like an anit-hero as the main character would be nice. He/she would start off not caring about Pokémon or anything, then eventually meet up with people and Pokémon that change their perspective, or something to that extent.

As for the games, I'm also waiting for an MMORPG or something else like that. The gameplay, again, has been recycled beyond recognition, and Nintendo and GameFreak are really starting to push player limits patience-wise. True, it takes a while to set up something like PSO-like with Pokémon, but come on. --;

As for the movies, I'm supposing that the reason they do that is because they have to show that all Pokémon have their "weak-spots" or "limitations." I haven't seen Pokémon 4ever yet, but for a Celebi to be beaten by a Scyther and a Houndoom...that kinda goes out there. I hate to think what happened with Latios and Latias. Oo;

Latios and Latias did even worse then Celebi(two-on-two, and they still lost).

As for the games, I think that real-time battles would be awesome. You would choose a Pokemon to use in a battle, then you would have full control over the Pokemon. Each of a Pokemon's moves would be assigned to a different button(This would be for GameCube, so there are plenty of buttons). Personally, I think that would rock.

Wow, Takuya, that idea would be supercool! I was thinking of doing that with a new Digimon game, but I think it'll work for Pokemon as well!

Another idea is to have an online Pokemon RPG game. It can have the same graphics and gameplay, but you can battle and trade Pokemon with other trainers online. Cool, huh? And you can do Pokemon Contests with them, two-on-two battles, Real Time battles...

My simple advice to the game is adulterize it. Not so it's M-rated, but at least a T almost breaking the limit of going on M. For both the TV show and Videogame.

I made a game plot on another board that every there thought kicked the crap out of the old ones.

I mean, the games seem to exist in a utopia like reality where only a few people who can be classified as a resistance seem to cause trouble.

So in both the TV show and games, include sexual themes, blood, violence between not only pokes, but actually between people, death, anger, vengence.

I would've preferred if they had killed off misty. *Kasumi fans don't attack me*. That way you have Ash, who in his quest of becomeing a pokemon master, and being reckless has caused his love to be in such great danger from a crime sect that it had cost her life, and that Ash had barely escaped, but not too soon to see her last cries of desperation and her demise. Now Ash has to deal with the emotional distress and dillema with May, along with the anger towards Team rocket, who's leader might be his very own father.

Kinda adds substance, doesn't it?

I think the show needs the most improvement. Ok Ash's Pikachu is really strong it has beatin pokemon like Dragonite one of the strongest there is yet Pikachu's Thunderbolt could not deafeat a bunch of low level Taillow now matter how gutsy they are. I hate how Ash's pokemon are always so invincible I mean when he just catches pokemon and they have hardly any exp they are so powerful. Togepi is hardly a baby anymore it hatched so long ago yet it never battles because its to young and right after birth Ash's Phanpy used attacks like Take Down on Team Rocket. I like how the have added new charcters but what I dont get is the fact that May's dad gave her and Ash those badge case thingys I mean everytime they go to a gyme are Ash and May going to try to win badges. I also think the need to give may a little action and let her gain some exp with her Torchic and let her learn to be a trainer and let her catch Wurmple(which she will hopefully do tomorrow). I also think that Max needs to do more than just act like a miniture verson of Brock and annoy May. I also agree with the fact that Ash, Pikachu and Brock should be out of the show and Ash should become a pokemon master already I would like the show to be centered on a rookie trainer(Meg). Meg, Torchic, Max and some one else could be a new generation of Ash, Pikachu, Brock, and Misty.

That's what my fic is all about, except it's centered on two rookie trainers... (Pokemon Aqua)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, I think Season 6 is just perfect as is, though I wish they'd gotten rid of Ash and Brock and just kept May and Max instead. And a part of me wishes they weren't siblings...
They also need LESS OF THE SAME EPISODES!!! Discover a new Pokemon, discover a new place, meet a new person (maybe one Brock falls in love with), Team Rocket tries to steal that Pokemon and succeeds, Ash and friends get it back... BORING. I also wish they would do more with the Gym Leaders like they did with Season 1, like focus on more than the battle... (remember Sabrina? And Blaine? And... Well there were two or three episodes with them in it and the battles were fairly short) I also think they need to make the battles more interesting and make more sense. Like, how can Phanpy be affected by Thunderbolt when dry? (when Ash first caught Phanpy) How can Cyndaquil survive underwater? (Ash vs. Pryce) How can sand conduct fire? (Ash vs. Jasmine) How can Metapod move? (Ash vs. Bugsy) How can... Well there are too many things to list...
Pokemon is a great series that I?d really like to see grow and mature, instead of dying as a mere fad.
Instead of new Pokemon and a New World, the series needs to cater more to the user.
I'd like to see customizable avatars for the game, so you'd be able to choose what your character looks like.
You should be able, to some extent, be able to choose your own path through the world.
Bring back Team Rocket, Team Magma and Aqua made me sick.
Use all the Pokemon. I was highly annoyed that Scyther was cut from the latest games.
Also, allow a lot more multiplayer options. It'd be nice to see a multiplayer Pokemon game.
Finally, I'd love it if you could choose a Pokemon to follow you around as your favorite. Like Pikachu did in Yellow Version.
Hmm, I think the anime might just need new Pokemon.
I kinda think the Bulbasaur and Squirtle should've evolved a while ago, also could Ash bother to catch a new Pokemon every once in a while. That would spice up the battles some more too, maybe if Ash got something else the battles would be more interesting, rather than with just the same ol Squirty, Bulby, Chary, and Pika.
I think the show also needs another bigger story to it. Remember in the one episode with the S.S. Anne where Jess and James reported to the boss and all this other stuff. (Heh, we never did find out what that truck was for)
As for the games I think they might need a big revamp, but only because they have been duplicated so much. Red and Blue/Green were the best IMO, they've just added a bunch of junk in G/S/R/S
So thats what I think, I apologize if some of my knowledge is a bit dated, but it's been a while.
Hello. I'm new! They need to stop making new Pokemon every single season because it's getting harder and harder to memorize them all. And 1 more thing. Where the heck is Ritchie? Ritchie is my favorite character in all of Pokemon but he only appears in one or two episodes. I just want more Ritchie. Anyone agree?
I think that a Revolution version of Pokemon would help to reinvigorate the franchise, especially if the controller were used effectively in the game.
For example, imagine throwing a PokeBall by flicking the controller forward. Or perhaps there could be an element where you have to look after your Pokemon by patting them and feeding them - this could also be done with the controller. Maybe you could use gestures to determine the type of attacks that the Pokemon perform in-game.
Basically I think there's a lot of scope to really expand Pokemon - not by adding more creatures, but by fundamentally improving the gameplay and finding new ways to interact with the creatures and their world.
My love for pokemon spawned again not too long ago, and I came up with a story idea for a more mature kind of game or series or something. It involves a governed world, Pokemon licenses (first attainable at age 18), more serious villains (I was disappointed when I replayed Pokemon Red for the first time in many years and discovered Team Rocket to be stupid, blundering idiots who reveal their master plans for total domination to some 12 year old kid), and maybe actual death. I also took the story of Ash and made it completely different, with different names and everything. He was Asher Nockte, Misty was Wendy something or other, and Brock was Dieg Pomince, who later wrote the children's version of Ash's story. Asher and Wendy got married and had a daughter, Mira, who became a scientist and was killed when the cave she was exploring collapsed due to a mass of Voltorb exploding. (Asher then lost faith in both Pokemon and their trainers, renounced his title as Pokemon Grand Master, and released all the Pokemon he ever owned). The main character of this story is Dio Altamira, whose father (Luziel Altamira) was charged with the extinction of a whole generation of pokemon (one that never really existed) and was executed by the Government of Kanto. I'd make this into an RPG if I had the patience and resources. Meh.
Wow, old thread. In remember this back when it was in the Pokemon forum. . . . *nostalgia trip*
It's kind of sad, though, that my sentiments about Pokemon are largely unchanged from my first post in this thread from two years ago. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is a standalone GCN RPG, sure. But the whole "dark Pokemon" thing, and having to purify them before they can start leveling and learning new attacks, seems like a boring time waster to me. Something put in just to make the game last longer.
Other than that, we've gotten the little-changed R/S/E and the FR/LG remakes. Why don't I just go play my copies of Yellow and Gold again? New Pokemon don't really get me excited if the games have little else new to offer. Oh, and let's not forget that you have to trade between Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green, and Colosseum in order to capture all the current Pokemon. Marketing gimmick you say? No, can't be. :rolleyes:
Of course, I still have lots of fond memories of playing Yellow, Gold, and Stadium 1 & 2. So whenever a new Pokemon RPG is announced, my hope perks up that they'll actually make the series fresh and fun again. Maybe with all the new features on the DS and Revolution (including online play!) that will finally happen. I really hope so.
I think both the anime and the games suffer from the same thing and that would be they both do the same stuff over and over. Ash and friends meet new pokemon and people, team rocket shows up, they defeat them and Ash walks into the sunset. Its the same with the games it basicly has you do the same thing in every game. Oh whats this you say you added five new pokemon? Now I have to start all over again just to get them? Ill pass. Im not going to deny that I loved my pokemon blue version but then it was fresh and unique. Then by Giold things got old really fast. If pokemon needs a change they may be able to pull it off on the DS or revolution.
Not games like the crappy pokemon dash. But something innovative and new.
Going back on what someone mentioned earlier, I wouldn't mind seeing an MMORPG version of Pokémon coming to the Revolution. Just imagine it; being able to capture Pokémon in real time, fighting trainers with actual player intelligence behind them and so on. Not only that, but you have a chance to do totally new things with it like make Battle Clans and set up your own kind of tournaments. It'd be a really great thing to see, though I know it'd be hell to program out and such.
