Hi,

I am new to the game and in dispute with my son (also new to the game)

How do you pkay a 5+level card and two pronged attack (destroy 2 own cards and 1 card of your opponent).

Option 1: Can you play these cards always (e.g. at the beginning of the first turn). If you have cards on the fields you destroy the proper number of cards, and if not enough number of cards on the field. Well lucky you ?
Option 2: Or can you play these cards and if not enough number of cards on the field. You can discard from your hand ?
Option 3: Or can you only play these cards when you really have the required number of cards on the field.

I think option 3 is too restrictive. If you are in a losing position because of a strong card of the opponent, you are never able to turn the situation around.

Well, for a start, you don't play 'Two-Pronged Attack' as such- as it's a Trap you have to set it face-down and then activate it whenever you see fit to. The monsters (and they have to be monsters, not just any old card) you destroy for it's effect have to be on the field when you activate it. If there are no monsters on your opponent's side of the field, you cannot activate it. Likewise, if there aren't enough on your sde, you can't use the Trap.

As for Level 5 monsters, these need one Tribute only. As a Tribute Summon is Considered a Normal Summon, you can only do one per turn unless using Ultimate Offering. That is: if you've summoned one monster already, you can't Tribute it in the same turn for another monster unless another card effect says you can. The same goes for those that need more than one Tribute.

In future, questions about individual cards should go in the Yu-Gi-Oh CARD Advice Thread, located at the top of the page.

Welcome to the boards, by the way. Be sure to read the Rules thread in the OtakuBoards Information Center and have fun. If you have any problems, feel free to contact me or any other member of Staff.
