Anime Otaku
Well as i understand im suppose to give feedbacks about the forum and forum staff, rules ect... here. Ok well i know im only new and i dont mean to be disrespectful to the staff and all but i think that you ppl are a bit too strict with proper grammer in the posts, as mod Arcadia pointed out to me. I mean common this place is just a public forum for the fun of all people, who cares if i dont use caps or commas or dots or whatever, as long as i dont spam or curse and everyone can clearly understand what im writing about Another reason for me writing like this is becuase i live in Israel and even though my English is very good, it is my second languange and i dont realy pay much attention about grammer in stuff like this. Again i dont mean to be disrespectuf but its just my opinion
Dagger
Public forums are a lot more "fun" when people choose to respect the rules. And frankly, I find it rather hard to "clearly understand what [you're] writing about." Your posts are admittedly more coherent than some I've encountered, but the lack of proper punctuation makes them difficult to read. Your English is excellent; I would never have guessed that it's your second language. It's not as though you're making grammatical errors or scrambling sentence structures; you're simply omitting commas, apostrophes, and the like. Since you seem to have a basic mastery of the language, I don't see why it's so difficult to punctuate your posts. ~Dagger~
James
While I respect your opinion, Anime Otaku, you must understand that we are one of many forums on the Internet. And every individual forum is free to make decisions about what they require of their membership. Some sites will require very little...others will require more. There are forums which (believe it or not) are even more strict about post quality than we are here. I like to think of it simply as a marketplace. OtakuBoards is one option -- there are thousands more. We have made certain decisions about what we require, in terms of our rules and what kind of behavior we expect. As a privately-owned site, that is our decision. And so, when people join the site (or just browse as a guest), they can take a look at our rules and our forums and they can make a decision about whether or not they think this place is suitable for them. Just as people will shop around and choose a site that interests them in terms of content (ie: anime, gaming or something else), people will also make decisions about other aspects of the site. So, really, with OtakuBoards...what you see is what you get. If you feel that our requirements don't meet your approval, you'll find various other anime communities who might be more appropriate. Either way, you're very welcome here -- but we do require that all members follow our rules. That's what we ask of our community, just as we provide them with a spam-free environment to gather.
Brasil
If one desires anarchy in post quality, check out the IGN boards, namely The Vestibule. I can guarantee that you'll look at OB's structure a hell of a lot differently after spending a few hours in The Vestibule. The Vesti has threads with titles like
I just masturbated! Review inside!
OB is too strict? Bah. Go take a trip on the wild side, then your attitude will change. OB is a haven of net forums. It's one of the only remaining strongholds of positive post quality I've ever seen. Grammar is your friend. Proper spelling is your friend. The OB rules are your friends. Anime Otaku
im not talking about stuff like that thread title, that is obviously bad, what im talking about is the way people keep watch about grammer stuff have you ever been in the forums DBZ Warriors?, they dont have rules about how you want to write, wheather(sp?) its ppl or people. u or you ect.... and they are one of the best m-boards i have ever seen, everyone there are friendly, always joking about stuff and everyone are friends, if they have problems their staff handles it quickly and efficiantly(and by problems i mean real spammin or cursing, not grammer issues) but like i said i will try to respect your rules(but i aint making any promises!:p ) so excuse me if i wont finish and start a centence at the right place or whatever
Sandy
Actually, I think you WILL adapt to the rules sooner or later, Anime Otaku - that's what happened to me too. ;) I'm from Finland, so I don't have the most perfect English (especially the grammar gives me a head-ache). I, too, started here by using the "u r":s and such, but once I started REALLY writing, I soon found out that I was better of typing porperly, because then people will actually GET MY POINT - not to mention that the text sounds more intelligent that way, no matter what you're saying. :p But trust me, writing language other than English isn't much of a problem if you KNOW how English is spoken. And life is learning and other lame stuff... And now I'd like to credit all my FANTASTIC (and less fantastic) English-teachers: because of you I would NEVER have... *gets dragged from the stage by a hook*

Or did you just highlight the spoiler text and that's it? When I suggested you click on over to The Vesti, I was dead serious. Go there. Now. And ah... ::wonders if Anime Otaku realizes just how dedicated PT is to proper English:: I sense you're eager to contribute to OB, and we all appreciate that. We welcome new members who strive to add to the warm and pleasant nature of OB. One way that OB maintains a pleasant atmosphere is through post quality and proper grammar. If you want, I'll help you out with developing proper usage and syntax. I'm on AIM a lot, so, yeah. If you want my help, IM me.
