ChibiHorsewoman
Well, it's that time of the year again. The radio stations are playing Christmas songs And you're struggling not to go over there and shove Holly and Ivy up the DJ's rearends. Or at the very least, your parent's who keep listening to to Soft Rock station that won't even play the 10 things at Christmas that are such a pain to me but anyway. That's not the point of this thread. I'm just wondering what are some of your favorite holiday songs that make this time of the year more bearable? Oh, and why. Mine are: Where are You Christmas By Faith Hill-It's a sweet song from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Faith has a pretty voice too Osama Got Run over by a Reindeer-Catchy short and funny. I got it sent to me in an Email back in 2001 and haven't forgot it yet. Oh Holy Night-Yes, it's religious and Christian and everything, but I love the Melody of it. I even had to sing it once when I was in choir. I have to say, I was quite impressed with myself. and Finally-I want a Hippopotimus for Christmas-Well, who doesn't want one of those for Christmas. And it's so catchy. *starts singing*
wrist cutter
John Lennon - Happy Xmas (War is Over) For some reason I don't hear this song a lot on radio stations and such. Really great Christmas song, one of the first that I think of when I think of Christmas. The Carpenters - Merry Christmas Darling They actually have quite a few Christmas songs, but unfortunately this is the only one I've heard. I'm sure the others are really good too... I really love Karen's voice. Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas is You Mariah Carey was the musician of the early '90s for me. Everyone in my family enjoyed listening to her, so I have to say I really enjoy her music. This song is no exception, it's more good stuff. It's a shame she's gone so downhill in this last few years. Bing Crosby - White Christmas This is just a classic. I've heard it hundreds of times at least... it's just not Christmas without this song. Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Carol of the Bells I don't think this is what they call it, but it's their take on the song. Tons of dramatic orchestration, guitar wailing and such... I unfortunately missed a chance to see them awhile back. tatsuro yamashita - CHRISTMAS EVE Perhaps his biggest hit, this isn't really a "happy" song, but at the same time really puts me in the mood for Christmas. kuwata keisuke - shiroi koibitotachi Not a "Christmas" song, but winter anyway. One of my favorites, definitely - keisuke is a one-in-a-million songwriter and this song is just beautiful. B'z - itsuka no MERRY CHRISTMAS This has been the most requested Christmas song for the past 5 years in Japan... pretty obvious why. Koshi and Tak are always very good at making heartfelt slow songs. Gackt - 12gatsu no Love song While this is essentially a "winter" song, there's just too much Christmas elements in it too ignore. One of Gackt's best songs in my opinion... Porno Graffitti - Hard Days, Holy Night They just released this about a month ago. Great, upbeat pop fare from the group with a Christmas flare to it. As usual the lyrics aren't quite as outright happy as the music though... That about does it for me.

Kanariya
Yes..Christmas songs... Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer: I saw the movie, and the song was stuck in my head, and I couldn't get it out. I ended up enjoying it, and now at Christmas I sing that song a lot with a weird ending...I would like to see the Osama one. *starts smiling widely* Winter Wonderland: This is close to being one of my favorite Christmas songs. I like singing it, and I sang it in the chorus in 5th grade. We did a little dance on stage...boy was that embarassing. Jingle Bells: Great tune, you can make a parody of it, and it is fun to sing. Yep the original Jingle Bells.
Arcadia
Hell yeah to wrist cutter and his Bing Crosby nomination. I'm all over that like a starving man on a Christmas ham. >.> Basically though, I love this time of the year, so if it's a Christmas song I'm bound to like it. Some favorites: And So This Is Christmas. Yeah, I can't remember who does this. Good first example, Meg. Hark! The Harold Angels Sing. From A Charlie Brown Christmas. Basically, all the songs from this movie, because it rocks. Go Linus! Christmas In Hollis. Run-D.M.C. Heh. Yeah, it's such a funny song. Santa Baby. Madonna's version. I actually did this for a lyp-sync contest in theatre, complete with a fun little red sexy Santa costume. Won some candy. Whoo. And then there are many, many more, but I'm tired of typing.

ChibiHorsewoman
A touching song that I really like is called: Christmas Shoes- I also can't remember who sang it (yeah, this is a great example Meg *kicks herself*) But it's been sang by a few people, so I have an excuse! Another one is very country (surprise, surprise) called: LeRoy the Redneck Reindeer-basically a song about Rudolf's country cousin who fills in for the red nosed deer. Yes, I've very classy, I also like the Redneck 12 days of x-mas!
Dan Rugh
I've been listening to a song called "Mookie's Last Christmas" by one of my favorite bands, Saosin. The song is on a compilation album called A Santa Cause. It doesn't sound particularly Christmas-ish and doesn't have cheery "have a holly jolly christmas" lyrics, something that would probably turn me away if it did. Here're the lyrics if anyone is interested in reading them: From throat and eyes came winter and reasons I'm told to carry on Sad overwhelms, my senses drown, oh I feel dependent The feeling that you are honestly gone I can't shake it... Make the same mistake twice Burst of red and green all over me Brings the things that she'll love I should let it form over We count the days left, 23 And all I know Honestly, could I be protected With you suddenly gone The feeling that you are honestly gone I can't shake it... Make the same mistake twice Burst of red and green all over me Brings the things that she'll love I should let it form over Make the same mistake twice Burst of red and green all over me Brings the things that she'll love I should let it form over Make the same mistake twice Burst of red and green covering me
duorocks17
I think that my favorite christmas song is "O Holy Night". This song starts of so soft, but then it gathers strength and just blows you away. I can't stop myself from singing my lungs off when it comes on the radio. This song just makes it christmas for me. Another one i like is two guy's version of the 12 days of christmas..i can't think of there names...it's the one that starts off like "on the first day of christmas my true love gave to me..a beer.." it's so funny! Another one is a song that the Beatles sing....i don't know what the song is called, but all it basically is is them singing "Christmas time is here again." and then it gets to my favorite line-"O-U-T spells OUT!!!" :)
moonlight angel
If anyone's seen the movie "Love Actually" there is a song I love on there, 'All I want for Christmas is you' . It's just so sweet, I end up singing it all the time. I also like 'The Carol of the Bells', you know, the one that goes "Hark how the bells, sweet silver bells, all seem to say throw cares away". Yeah that one. Also, 'Winter Wonderland' by Amy Grant is one of my favorites because it's so upbeat and happy. And then of course, is 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer'. You just can't beat that one for pure oddity and fun.
MaggieMehve
Oh god, Christmas Songs O_O They can get probably more annoying than ever, but sometimes I like some of them. Feliz Navidad - I had to do this for a dance this year, and the song got stuck in my head. Its easy to memorize and since I live nearby Mexico (in Arizona), I know the Spanish words they say by heart. ^_^ He's Too Fat for the Chimney - This is on one of our old records and that's the songs title. Hallelujah - Who wouldn't love this song? O-o Winter Wonderland - Classic. Period. All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth - The song, which we have on record along with the "He's Too Fat for the Chimney" is from the 1970s, and the singer always reminded me of a little mouse. :D Jingle Bells - Wonderful. :P Let it Snow - I really want a White Christmas here, since I live in Tucson, AZ, the last snowfall was in 2000 and it wasn't much, so this song makes me really hopeful. White Christmas - Another Classic. Christmas At Ground Zero - This is by Weird Al Yankovic. Favorite band, so I like his parodies. Here's his song: Christmas At Ground Zero It's Christmas at Ground Zero There's music in the air The sleigh bells are ringin' and the carolers are singin' While the air raid sirens blare It's Christmas at Ground Zero The button has been pressed The radio just let us know That "This is not a test..." Everywhere the atom bombs are droppin' It's the end of all humanity No more time for last minute shoppin' It's time to face your final destiny Well, it's Christmas at Ground Zero There's panic in the crowd We can dodge debris while we trim the tree Underneath a mushroom cloud You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop Or Jack Frost on your windowsill But if someone's climbin' down your chimney You better load your gun and shoot to kill Oh, it's Christmas at Ground Zero And if the radiation level's okay I'll go out with you and see the all new Mutations on New Year's Day It's Christmas at Ground Zero Just secondsleft to go I'll duck and cover with my yuletide lover Underneath the mistletoe It's Christmas at Ground Zero Now the missles are on their way What a crazy fluke we're gonna get nuked On this jolly holiday What a crazy fluke we're gonna get nuked On this jolly holiday

Artemis
I like mostly the religious carols: What Child is This (esp. w/ Child of the Poor, the countermelody...*sighs* beautiful! God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Night of Silence (counter melody to Silent Night0 I also like Carol of the Bells, any arrangement, but particuarly Manheim Steamroller...*dies in awe of the beauty* :love2: I do like a few goofy songs: Adam Sandler's Hanakah Song The Hippopotamaus Song But the one I hate above all others: Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer (The sibs love it and play it over and over again...Soon, I'm ripping my hair out...) ~art~
Japan
I only really have three holiday songs that I like. They are: We Three Kings of Orient Are, Grandma got ran over by a reindeer, and Osama got run over by a reindeer. I've liked, 'We three kings of orient are,' ever since I was a child. It has a beautiful tune and wonderful lyrics. 'Grandma got runover by a reindeer,' is too dang funny. It cracks me up everytime I hear it. Also, 'Osama got run over by a reindeer is my favorite new version of the last mentioned song. It is so hilarious. I first heard this song in American History class. Everyone in my class was laughing and singing along with it.
