So I had this pain...

Yea, well, sorry, I just needed to say that, it helps the pain. Oh the pain. I learned a life-long lesson, don't walk around with stuff stickin' out of your mouth. Toothbrushes, spoons, forks, toothpicks. Yea well, I just learned that wisdom teeth don't really do anything, no extra wisdom or anything. But they don't hurt for everyone, for most people they do, but not everyone. There ya' go.

Ug, mouth experiences, where do I start.

When I was two I fell off a swing and bumped my two front teeth up into my gums. I had to have a root canal on one of the baby teeth. (For the life of me, I have no idea why they didn't just pull the teeth out, but...)

I had braces/head gear/ retainers/ rubberbands from third grade until eighth grade. I had a double overbite (my teeth on either side of the front ones where behind the lower teeth.) and my bite was off by more than one tooth.

Meanwhile, when I was in seventh grade I knocked out my two front teeth yet again. The only thing that saved them was the braces. I had to have yet another root canal. God, I hate those.

Last year my jaw started to lock and I had to have a splint, wear it to school and everything. That was a party.

Yup, that's about the size of it.
Now, I HATE haveing anything stuck in my mouth. I am 18, and I don't have my wisdom teeth yet. I do so dread that experience. I have absolutely no room in my mouth for wisdom teeth, so there're going to have to grow on the roof of my mouth or under my other teeth or something. Talk about pain. ><

OKay so here's my update. I'm sitting here right now higher than a kite because they put me on some massive pain killers (codine and such). I'm to stay on them all until January 9th, when I get all four wisdom teeth surgically removed. Fun times! I'm glad I'm going to be rid of these beasts!

Dentistry seems it would be such a depressing profession...
That's why most dentists look down in the mouth! (bad joke, sorry)

Anyway, like many others here shall have my wisdom teeth out. All three of them. I originally consulted the dentist about discomforts in my jaw (clicking etc). He concluded that the teeth weren't really the cause, yet they should be removed anyway to not trouble me in the future. This is next month.

Oh, and if you want to speak of pain my sister had thrown me into a wall by my feet when I was young (by accident). I lived more than an hour away from the hospital so the commute was a pain.

Another time, one of her friends had pushed down a flight of stairs. It didn't really hurt, but I pushed the tears because I really hated her.

I know this joked about, but I actually was dropped on my head as a baby. This was actually more my fault though. I was in one of those bouncer things and was a bit overzealous.

Ah someone asked why they need to be removed... hah!

Ok i can answer that now that i sit here with a swollen hurting face..

Wisdome teeth are four extra teeth that come in later on... as i take it. But they are removed because they almost always cause trouble. Wisdom teeth are impacted teeth for most of the time they hacve no room to grow in regularly. I should know... they grow in sideways and roots grow and gouge into your upper and lower jaws and cause tons of damage.

So its always best to have them removed befopre the roots grow in. Also the ages its best to remove them is 14-19 or so...

I think thats just a myth that wisdom teeth make one wiser... Im not really sure why they call them WISDOM teeth... they should be called... Pain in the @** Teeth...if you ask me.

Now, I'm not an expert, but your jaw clicking sounds like TMJ, which is what I have. That's what I have to wear a splint for. It's sometimes cause by an inpact to the head.(Mine was when I knocked my teeth out.)

Heh, maybe your sister thowing you into a wall has something to do with it.

Perhaps, but the dentist (sorry, did I say doctor originally?) suggested that I was better off just letting it be. This is because many people undergo expensive treatments and operations to fix their jaw, only to find it ineffective. So, in the long run I'd be better off to deal with it and eventually it may go away on it's own.

The only repercussion that I've known from my sister was a bald patch that remained for years afterwards where the stiches were.

That's what my original dentist said until my jaw started locking. Then she sent me to a specialist. The splint did stop the locking, so I wouldn't call that ineffective.

Yours probably isn't as bad as mine was/is. I hope it feels better!

Just to bring you all up to date...

My surgery was this morning. I went in at 9 and was out of it by 9:30 LOL. They only had to take 4 teeth, so that's a plus. However something I didn't expect was that they had to drill away some of my jawbone. OUCH! So yeah, I'm a little swollen right now :p. But I feel good...prolly the drugs. LOL. I'm eating now, so that's a plus. I was so hungry. heh. I didn't wake up from the surgery until 6pm. They carried my to the car, and then up to my room. I tried to stand and fell...it was rather comic.

So that's what's up :)

Glad your surgery went well!

Mine come out next week. I'm extremely nervous, for no good reason. I KNOW I'll be knocked out, completely drugged. Won't feel a thing.

Yet...still. You know how it is. Your story eases my fears slightly. :( I said slightly.

Lucky you, you get to be knocked out. all I got was novacain because my insurance wouldn't cover nitris oxide Damn them all!

I hope you've decided to get them all taken out at once instead of two then two or whatever because it's easier to get them all out of the way at once-mostly for you.

OOh, the pain after the first stuff wears out is not fun at all. Luckily tho, you get Tylonal with codine which is one of the best inventions ever:wigout: Also, your face puffs out for a few days and you look like a chipmunk.

Just remember, no bending over, no drinking thru a straw and no spitting. When you brush your teeth, let the toothpaste dribble out of your mouth, Not a pretty sight, but something to keep in mind so you don't get a dry socket.

Oh, and most people can't eat solid food for a few days. Get yourself some pudding, baby food and applesauce! Of course, I got mine taken out on a Saturday and was carefully eatting chicken wings on Wednesday, but I was so desperate that Monday I tried to cut up a Twizzler and eat it so what do you want from me?

For the record tho, I got mine taken out in April 2001, All 4 of them, and they made a really unpleasent crunch pleasent crunch when it happened. But on the bright side, I was all over the pain on Sunday, but had to miss my riding lesson-wait that was teh bright side?? Dammit!

Ah well, good luck!

Yes, I'm getting all four out at once! (I just want it over with. But who wouldn't?)

Yes, I've had codine before. Ah, codine...I remember it well...

I just KNOW I'm going to crave crunchy foods immediately. But I'll be too petrified to eat them. (Thank Goddess for fear!)

My friend told me that when he had the gauze all put in, it stuck to something he was eating (that he SHOULDN'T have been eating) and he swallowed it, iodine and all.

He was fine (somehow).
