The first time I saw this the theater was packed. We had to sit in the second row. I was so close that I literally had to move my entire head around to look at specific parts of the movie. Despite that, I enjoyed it.

Johnny Depp is awesome, I think. Without him and Rush, I don't think I would have cared about this film very much. Depp can save the worst movies, although he seems to rarely pick poor projects as it is. That's not to say this is a bad movie, I just think he made it that much better.

My main issue, for the most part, was simply that I found most of the other characters extremely dull. The action scenes made up for it at least.

I have to agree that this movie was awesome, but I have to disagree and say that it's not the best movie ever made. It is certainly entertaining, especially with Johnny Depp's characterization of Captain Jack Sparrow! He was flamboyant and sly and completely captivating, and I have to say that although Orlando Bloom looked quite handsome in the film, he stood no chance standing next to Johnny Depp whenever they were both on screen together.

In fact, Will Turner annoyed the bejeezus out of me with his sappy, "oh-save-my-bonnie-lass-i'd-die-if-she's-gone" attitude. Blegh. Spare me, please. Savvy? (sorry, I had to put that in haha)

*waits for orli fangirls to shoot arrows through head*

The only thing I'm looking foward to with the sequeal to this movie is seeing Johnny Depp again in all his Cap'n Jack Sparrow glory. ^_^

I thought this was a great movie! The first time i went to see it in the theater i figured it was going to be a scary movie, from the previews, but seeing as how it was Disney, i didn't think it would be all that bad.

I went to the movie with my friends, one who loves Johnny Depp, and another who loves Orlando. (i think that's how it went, it was so long ago!) After watching the movie, both had the greatest things to say about each. I personally like Johnny best, i just liked how his character was so caniving, and smart. It seemed he always had a plan, no matter what the situation.

My favorite part is right at the beginning, when we first meet Captain Jack Sparrow. You know when his ship sinks. It just fits so well with both the music, and the timing is awesome. It makes you think how many times they had to shoot that to get it right.

And the music! what can i say? WOW! Who could imagine that having more than one composer and all the songs fit perfectly!! You would think that the songs would clash at some point, but they are great! and the soundtrack is awesome!

Beautiful flick. First time I saw it in theatres, I was locked. I was captivated and couldn't resist keeping my eyes on the screen as if some machine kept me looking straight forward. Once I got out of the theatres, I said I wanted to see it again. No doubt. So I bought it the second day it came out :<

I've watched it many times since. One of my favorite movies of all.

Like it!? What are you nuts! I loved it! But the only thing that made me see it was that sexy sexy beast Johnny Depp! Orlando Bloom bother the ***** out of me. He is no way cute, hot, or sexy.He could not compair to the sexyness of Johnny Depp. I tell ya, Orlando's sexyness gets suck away by Johnny Depp I this film. Johnny sucks it up like a sponge in water.

But the musice was great, the acting was great, the monkey was great, the guy with the wooden eye was great, Johnny was sexy...I mean great. It's my favorite movie of all time! And Johnny's mine! All mine! *cuddles with Johnny Depp plush*

YO HO YO HO A PIRATES LIFE FOR ME! (AN REALLY BAD EGGS......)

The first time I saw it in theatres I remember walking out the movie soooo mad that I wasted my money on it. ::fast forward 2 days later:: After that time for some reason I had the urge to see it again, and I did. And then it became one of my favorite movies. I really liked the characters story and special effects, and the most surprising part for me was the fact that it was a Disney Movie!, I was completely floored by that, it didn;t seem anything like what I normally expect out of a disney movie..
And that is why I went out and bought it today. :D

I loved it! I am now in love with Jonny Depp! The music was just... wow. :wow:

It's also the second movie that I've seen that is actually based on a ride. (Not the other way around.) I wonder who knew that?

There's ANOTHER PoTC coming out? I'm gonna be the first to watch it!

Anyway, great movie! I laughed at it all the time, it was really good! Orlando was cool, and Johnny Depp was wicked. It was funny! I liked the end best.
The whole Legend and things in it where good, I loved it! I've seen it like, 20 times at night.

A couple of PotC threads were created around the time when the movie was first released. So in response to your presumably rhetorical question, we're not "[that] kinda people"..... whoever those "kinda people" are. o_O

Anyway.

Johnny Depp's performance was, as everyone else has been saying, fantastic. Although I find him attractive, I'm rather turned off by the rabid hordes of teenage girls who, chances are, scarcely knew who he was before PotC came out, and now claim to be Mr. Depp's biggest fans ever. Ripping on Orlando Bloom does nothing for their credibility; they're just as bad as--if not worse than--his followers. Also, bear in mind the fact that Johnny Depp is married, with children. Drooling over him isn't much better than hanging pictures of a friend's dad in one's locker.[/rant]

But to get back on topic, I enjoyed watching the movie (I've seen it about three or four times), and I did buy it on DVD. It's very funny, with fantastic swordfights and a memorable soundtrack. I was also quite impressed by PotC's special effects--the Black Pearl's crew looks about as realistic as it's possible for the living dead to be. I like to think that Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom got the short end of the stick; they're probably competent actors, but their lines were generally pretty mediocre (at least compared to Johnny Depp's). Even the best performance can do little for a bad or otherwise erratic script.

When I first saw this movie, I wasn't too much really happy with it. Until I saw it again on DVD, and bought it, realizing how weird I was not liking the movie before. It's a good movie, just not the best.

Johnny Depp being Captain Jack Sparrow made most of the movie how enjoyable it was. Without Depp, this movie would be bleh, even with Orlando Bloom in it. Depp was always the one to make the funny antics and each action scene he was in was interesting. *hides with haruno_sakura from Bloom fans*
In fact, Will Turner annoyed the bejeezus out of me with his sappy, "oh-save-my-bonnie-lass-i'd-die-if-she's-gone" attitude. Blegh. Spare me, please.
*gives haruno_sakura high five*

So overall, this a good movie, and it's on my top 5 favorite movies. Though it's not the best.

Yeah there waa thread before this but it was way far back so probably no point in bringing it back.

Well I deffinatly loved this movie. Maybe not the best I've ever seen(really can anything hld a candle to the Nightmare Before Christmas? Or Monty Python and the Holy Grail? well that's just my opnion....) but still it was pretty good. I saw it on opening day first showing(so around noon) and it was pretty empty. Me and my friends family went. I um gott a little scared....*looks at arm when she dug her nails into* but not that scared.

I have to agree with Wasabi ; Orlando Bloom wasn't that good in the movie. I mean he was alright but not good enough to win any awards. Johnny Deep definatly was the highlight of the movie with all his wonderful lines. When ever he was arounf it was almost imposible not to laugh.

Since the first showing I saw it agian in movie theaters and both times I had no idea there wasa teaser for the sequal. So when my big bro got it on DVD we all watched and this time I finally got to see it. Not much really. I have a feeling that the sequal will be like the Mummy Returns. You know Will and Elizabeth being married and having a kid who gets in trouble so they have to save him so they call up their good friend Captian Jack. But hey if it has the same cast it will still be good.
"But why is the rum gone?"

This has to be one of my favorite movies of all time. (I'm still thinking LotR is better, but PotC is right up there!)
One of the best parts is the music! I'm listening to it right now. It's just so fitting. It really catches you up in the story. I think I prefer scores to songs. I'm not really sure why.
Hmm...I'll try not to be an obnoxious Johnny fan...(although, I'm the Johnny fan who went w/ duo to see it)...I've liked him for awhile. In fact, the first preview we saw for PotC was before TTT. A ton of ppl from my school were there (first semester finals had jus gotten out). When it flashed Johnny's name, I said, "Oh, we have to go see this!" But everyone else was like, "Yeah, whatever," until Orlando's name appeared. Then, there was an actual sickening teenage roar from the crowd. Yes, "Orli" was attractive in PotC (better than LotR), but he couldn't quite match Johnny. I think Depp's best attribute is that he doesn't play conventional roles. I mean...look at Edward Scissor Hands...or Sleepy Hollow...or From Hell...or Don Juan de Marco...he doesn't always go w/ the conventional movies either. (He was good in Chocolate, too.)
I've heard lots of complaints that the other characters (besides Jack and Barbossa) were flat. I guess it never really bothered me. I think Will has some development. He at least stops hating pirates...that's something, I guess. I also appreciated that Elizabeth wasn't a prissy damsel in distress. She was able to manipulate the greater conniving Jack Sparrow with the rum. I have to appreciate the corset line: "You like pain? Trying wearing a corset!!" It amused me.
Is it weird that I actually felt sorry for Barbossa when he died? Some of my friends gave me funny looks when I told them that, but I was actually close to tears..."I feel...cold."
*breaks away from depressing death scene*
Did anyone else notice the eunch jokes? At least one was cut out (see the deleted scenes on the DVD). The funny thing is that Johnny just kept throwing them in ad lib. The writers were slightly distraught at this, but they let him keep a few. (yeah...I got funny looks for mentioning that, too...)
I think that's all for now. I should probably hit the sack.
~art~

Oh yeah! As far as I've heard, there are supposed to be 2 sequels, but they aren't coming out for awhile. If I remember correctly, they won't even start filming until this summer. Which means, since it's a water movie (they'll have lots of delays), we may not see #2 'til summer '05.

I was listening to the radio the other day and there was a Blockbuster commercial and they advertised it as "Pirates of the Carribean: Cruise of the Black Pearl!" I laughed so hard, especially when they said it again. ^_^

That is EXACTLY what I was going to say! As I was reading through this thread, I was thinking the same exact thing. You took the words right out of my mouth, though. ^_^

As for the movie, I watch it everyday. My sister got it on DVD back when it first came out and I seriously have watched it everyday since I've been home on Christmas break. Alot of times I fall asleep while it's on, but I like the movie enough to want to watch it repeatedly.

I saw it in the movies when I was on vacation in Oregon. I still have my ticket stubb. ^_^

And gah, what's wrong with Orlando Bloom? I thought his performace was just fine and almost just as funny as Depp's. His character was very silly in his own right. ^_^

I have no already standing bias against Orland Bloom, but I honestly just was not impressed by him in this movie. He, as a character, is rather dull in my opinion. His acting is tolerable, but a lot of it just seems to be stilted. I understand the fact that his character is obviously not confident of himself in general, but I just don't think the character was pulled off that well. I didn't care about him. It didn't help that he, and basically everyone besides Rush, was so easy to ignore in Depp's prescence.

People always ignore Rush (Barbossa) in these threads. He was one of the best aspects of the movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean is one of those movies that seemed like a bad idea. To make a movie after a ride with no plot seems stupid. That is the main reason I didnt want to see it. Then I saw the previews and checked out the reviews and was like, I got to see that. However, gotting to see movies does not produce money or time, and I never got to see it. Then when it came out on DVD, I was on it the first day. I loved every damn minute of that movie. Gots the ***** on DVD, and I am set. Awesome movie, end of story.

PoC...ahh, a great movie. I saw it with some friends of mine late at night in theaters. It was amazing, and a lot better than I expected. Granted, I didn't expect a lot, but still...

Never have I been so happy to have been so totally wrong. ^__^ It really was a huge surprise, and one of the best movies of the summer.

BTW, has anyone heard about the campaign to make PoC a cult-type movie like the Rockey Horror Pictures show? You know, with the costumes and strange rituals?

All the theaters contacted reportedly said the same thing:" Great idea, but please try it at another theater."
