There shouldn't be a campaign in my opinion. That stuff with Rocky Horror simply just happened... It wasn't forced out like this concept is. Plus the idea of a "cult" following by Rocky Horro standards for Pirates of the Carribean just makes no sense to me. The idea of a cult classic is something that was largely unsuccessful but has a rabid, yet small fanbase. That movie doesn't fit into either of those categories lol.

Oh well. If they want to try, whatever. I can't say what I'm typing here matters to them heh.

Hey,

Well of course Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my FAVORITE movies, because its not too boring, but not too-out there- if you know wut i mean. If you didn't watch this movie, poor you. I like Jack Sparrow because he has that little drawl, makin him sound like he's drunk...its cool if you ask me. Most of the girls are crazy about him, well since i'm a boy i just sit back and vomit. I just like how he fights.

Well, Make sure and watch this movie a couple times. Its worth it. Unlike lord of the rings, it doesn't bore you too many times if you watch it over again. Well, have fun.

And gah, what's wrong with Orlando Bloom? I thought his performace was just fine and almost just as funny as Depp's. His character was very silly in his own right. ^_^
It wasn't Orlando Bloom himself, but the character of Will Turner. He was quite whiny most of the time, and sure I guess you could blame it on love, but he was being much too sappy for me. I'm honestly sick of the I-am-a-hero-inspired-only-by-love type which was how he came across to me.

Orlando Bloom's acting was fine, but they just didn't give him such a complex character to work with, and if he was supposed to be complex, I just didn't see it. We only really got to see one side of Will Turner (his 'infatuated-with-my-bonnie-lass-while-I-kick-pirate-butt' side), and it didn't appeal to me at all. IMHO, I think they casted him to be eyecandy for the majority of teenage girls, and especially with the tremendous growth of his fanbase after LOTR, he would draw in a large amount of money which is what companies essentially care for. I have absolutely nothing against Orlando Bloom; he just didn't leave much of an impression on me (in concerns with acting) except that he is a gorgeoous man LOL.

As for girls lusting after Johnny Depp after this movie came out, you can't honestly blame them for 'falling' for him since he was absolutely superb as Cap'n Jack Sparrow. It comes with his job description I guess o.0

Of course, it is a little irritating that some didn't even know his greatness before this movie's release, but maybe it's because some are too young to really know, which isn't their fault. A lot of people on this board were just born or weren't even born yet when 21 Jump Street came out, and it wasn't even showing anymore when they were finally able to comprehend the meaning of a television.

It would urk me a little bit more if someone my age never even heard of Johnny Depp before PotC. How can one not have seen at least Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert's Grape or CRYBABY (one of my absolute faves), *spurts off the rest of his 23487923 films* LOL? ^_^ His other films, like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Dead Man probably wouldn't have been widely known because they weren't as heavily marketed towards a mainstream audience like PotC was.

These are just a few reasons as to why people are just now taking notice of him, and it can be annoying, but that's just how it works. You can't really blame post-PotC, instant Johnny Depp fangirls, because they were the targets of excellent advertising from one of the best specialists in the field: Disney. It is a little disturbing though to see a twelve-year-old at a movie theater lusting after a 40-year-old man. o.0

Er...*gets off soapbox*

And yes, Rush does get overlooked on these threads, but I think it's mainly because he was simply overshadowed by Depp's performance. Rush is an excellent actor, and was convincing as Barbossa. I was torn between feeling sympathy for him and hating him, which is exactly what I love in a character! That complexity is what most of the main characters had in this film, except for Will Turner. ^_^

I thought that this movie was pretty cool. I definately think that Johnny Depp madee this movie. I loved Johnny's costume. I love the music that goes with it. Though I love this movie a lot, after viewing it about five times, I got a little bored on some parts of the movie. On the DVD, my fdavorite part of all is the blooper reel. It is really funny.

Pirates? I love pirates! Drinks all around! er...maybe not. First time I saw it, it was just my little bro, my sis and I, all alone in a dark theater...no, seriously, we had the whole place to ourselves. I have a friend who saw it 5 times in the theater...the funnest thing is watching it with someone who's never seen it before, because of that one part with Sparrow and the coin towards the end...if you've seen it, you know what I mean, savvy? Now, bring me that horizon....and really bad eggs...drink up me hearties, yo ho!

I agree with you Ozy that was a great movie I can't wait for part 2 I wonder what that one will be about. Alot of times you heard people saying qoutes from the movie like 'stop putting holes in my ship'. Johnny Depp made me laugh alot during that movie it was one of the best movies of the summer.

Well, I thought I posted on this topic, but I can't seem to see any posts that are by me. . lol, wether I just kept missing it, or in fact, I have not posted in this thread ^_^

Well. . on the what's important. I was dissapointed by this movie. Overall, I thought it was a pretty decent movie, just not what I was expecting. I saw it a few weeks after it was originally released in theaters. Now, there isn't anything to that. . however, almost every single person in Franklin, TN (where I live) deemed it necessary to come and tell me how "AWESOME / COOL / BEST MOVIE EVER" the movie was. One or two people wouldn't have bothered me, but almost every person I would talk to would ask me if I had seen the movie. .

So, I went into the movie expecting one of the greatest comedy/action movies to date. . what I got, was a half-decent movie filled with very few one-liners. The acting by Jonny Depp and Geoffrey Rush really made the movie. I was a little annoyed with Depp's mannerisms throughout the film. Yes, I know that was supposed to be his character, and for all that's worth, he pulled it off masterfully. . but it was tiring to watch after about 30 minutes. . *sigh*

The special effects with the skeletons were really sweet, though a little too played out. I mean, there was more to the movie then a couple pirates fighting in a cave with a few selected holes to keep reminding you that they were in fact skeletons. . right? *shrug* Guess so. .

Anyways, if I had plenty of money, burning a hole in my pocket, I would probably 'think' about getting this movie. But, since I am not in that position, I don't have to worry about it ^_^

I guess this movie gets 3 stars out of 6. . I could watch it many times, and get laughs. . but it's not something that I would watch if I was in the mood to watch a good movie. Oh yeah, and what was it with the 'idiot twins' . . I mean, the British had the two foolish guys that weren't too bright that Depp's character took advantage of. . but wait, the Pirates also had two foolish guys that weren't too bright that Depp once again took advantage of. . did we really need two different pairs of these guys? . . I digress. Sounds too much like flaming, and not enough constructive criticism =) Take it how you want though. .

I can't believe you just said that...Well actually that disgust was short lived. I mean you definetly have the right to you opinion. Surely you do but I neve seen the movie in the 'eye' if I may say so, but I still think the movie is great.

I mean the story wasn't too boring and the manuerisms of Johnny Depp surely amused me the whole way through.

The action was like any other movie, I think, and the effects were pretty darn good for what they had to do. Even if it is redundant to you. I mean to be able to morph a person from flesh to skeleton and back to flesh takes a great deal of work so I must give my congrats to the effects specialist for that.

But I love the movie. Johnny Depp was cute and so was Orlando Bloom. And that's all I gotta say about that...

Well, generally if you go into anything expecting the "best ever", you're going to be disappointed. I only listen to opinions on movies and music from people I tend to agree with. I mean, there's people who have tried to tell me that the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is the best horror film ever. Give me a break lol.

In any case, Bloom must have an amazing manager. He managed to get into this, Lord of the Rings... He's in the upcoming Troy, as well, which looks like it's going to be another one of those massive, epic movies. He really get some great parts.
